Harold Reynolds is my favorite baseball broadcaster and he shows it here, his questions are great, as a cardinals fan he's asking what i want to ask Mozeliak! Also, I hope the Cards go in on Yamamoto with a serious offer!
Mo, sign Eduardo Rodriguez (a lefty), get Dylan Cease in a trade for Matz and other position players, and we will definitely challenge for a deeper playoff run. Walker is terrible defensively in the outfield, I think you know that. He should do nothing but DH, if he's not traded for Cease.
@@jtstreiff if they don't trade Walker, it will be just another case of Mo not properly evaluating talent. Walker is a league leading strike-out candidate, plays terrible defense in outfield, is blocked from playing any other position on this team, and we already have three "senior" everyday players who will be used as DH to give them a day to rest their legs but still bat, so Walker's poor defense can't be hidden by using him as DH. He makes much more sense to the White Sox, who are rebuilding and have available infield positions for Walker, and he is valuable enough at those positions to make them agree to a Cease deal with StL. If we don't do it, you doom us to another poor season, out of the playoffs before they start. It's a no-brainer .... trade him for Cease. But then, Mo proves often that he doesn't have a winning brain mentality, he just manages the salary budget, and runs the analytics database that loses more games for us.
The Phillies' POBO is sharp, he ANTICIPATES. Mozeliak is not sharp, he put the Cardinals into this predicament by his failures to make better moves the past 2 seasons with Goldy and Arenado on the roster. He should not be praised at all right now. So far, all he's really done this off-season is bring in pitchers with high ERA's, high hits allowed, high home runs allowed. Gray is a #2, who will be .500 at best matched up against other team's #1. All of that won't make the playoffs, having a starting rotation that AVERAGES 35 years-old. If he gets Cease, and signs Eduardo Rodriguez (a lefty to replace Matz), I will retract my statement. Right now, we are a long ways from being a contender.
@Flair3777, So you would trade 3 All Star outfielders in the past 3-4 years? Mo blames the log jam the Cards have for the mistakes, and I quote, “if your not trading your not trying.” Can you imagine the lineup with Adolis Garcia, Randy Arozarena, and Lane Thomas in the lineup? The birds would have a REAL DH, and a lineup that would stack up against the Phillies and Braves. The sad part, how could it be even sadder you ask, Mo got NOTHING in return. I use to be like you Flair, because the birds were winning, I didn’t understand why fans didn’t like him, I thought maybe it was the bow tie, but looking back I was wrong about him. The Cards covered up Mo’s incompetence because of the weak division they play in. Now the division has caught up to the Cards, so his mistakes like those 3 trades tend to glare out at fans. After last season Mo said all the right things, but he always does. He said to multiple outlets the Cards needed two solid aces, and he did indeed sign one, but even though the Cards have the assets, and or money, he’s SATISFIED going into the season with one number one starter, and 4 starters that would at the end of a rotation, so we have no real number 2,3,4 starters. The one good thing about the other teams catching up, this pitching staff will get shelled and Mo and Marmol will be gone, and I hope DeWitt brings Yadi home for good. Yadi has already stated if ever he was the manager, he’d start with Waino as his pitching coach, and Pujols as his hitting coach. THATS A GOOD START, just need a Theo Epstein type holding down the GM duties. Shaking my own head at the novel, my apology, I’m just truly sick of a man who traded 3 All Stars, then makes jokes.
@ariegoldman8669 No I actually appreciate your thoughtful reply. The thing about the outfield trades is nobody can know how that stuff will turn out. We all know the whole league passed on Garcia, and Thomas has his chances here. I wasn't disappointed to see him go. The Arozarena trade really hasn't panned out however because Liberatore hasn't lived up to hopes. We could go on about the Ozuna trade as well. At the end of the day I'm not blaming the man got not knowing the future. We all make decisions based only on the information we have at the time. Unfortunately there has been some consecutive bombs. What I like about him is the generally conservative approach. I know it's not popular, but we've seen now with The Mets and Padres that a payroll may not win for you either. If I was a GM I wouldn't hand out these massive long term contracts to Boras clients. The years and money commitment is just insane. However I admit I may be fascinated a bit by the moneyball approach and enchanted how the cards won their WS 10 years ago by getting hot at the right time. I honestly thought we had a great shot I 2021.
I’ve been watching the Cardinals since 2010. Mozeliak is the best in the game. Yes he’s made deals that turned out sour, but I don’t think anyone competes with his knowledge for the game and his ability to evaluate talent. He rarely calls out players and says nothing but positive things about current and past players.
Dave Dombrowski of the Phillies is BY FAR, the best GM/POBO in all of baseball today. Look at his record .... every team he has been with went from also-rans to World Series. Unlike Mo, Dombrowski anticipates. Mo just patches things short-term and late, and results keep sinking. Getting Goldy and Arenado were opportunistic, but that's about all Mo has done in 5 years.

Has done VERY LITTLE to IMPROVE the team!!
All the Cardinals have done is replace what they traded away in the rotation. They need more.
replaced the traded away with less players
As is, the cardinals are maybe a .500 team. Lot of work to do still.
Why don’t you get Yamamoto. Get up off some coin and get a good young arm
Just cuz they haven’t signed him yet doesn’t mean they won’t. Yes the price is high, but maybe they’re flying under the radar
I just hope John Mozeliak proves me wrong but trading O’Neill for a 6.00 ERA pitcher??
Like what the Cards have done so far this offseason. They’ve been alot of solid moves despite not landing a star…YET
Fingers crossed for a Cease trade
not going to happen unfortunately
@ericletford1178 you never know, but there is only one way to find out.

@@rayrussell6258I’m glad you’re not running the team.
can you at least TRY to get Yoshi and not shit the bed.
Mozeliak isn't super popular right now in Cardinal fans circles, but if I was a MLB GM I would do things just like this guy. I think think he's sharp.
