Ladies, ladies, ladies.... I've done more timber cruising then I care to remember. 1) A backpack to carry extra cans of paint, water, lunch, an actual compass and a map of the area. 2) Do not trust a compass app on your phone. What if you use cell signal, battery or the phone? An actual compass is proven technology over 3,000 years old. 3) I never go out in the woods without the ability to survive the night. One never knows what might happen. This is also what a backpack is for.
Girls, my suggestion is to always drop bread crumbs or peanuts along the trail so you can follow them back to where you started. This works great as long as there are no birds or squirrels in the forest.
hope this doesn't sound corny but you girls are blessed to have a noble and respectful and let me just say awesome father, that also explains your success as videographers and loggers of America.
GPS Garmin makes about the best. Great for Hiking Hunting Marking Trees set you start point and when you want head back it will HELP As always TAKE CARE and STAY WELL
Walking through brush is an acquired trait. The more time you spend in the woods, the easier it gets. Not like a walk in the park, but much easier. But looks like you did have a fun for your first time. Oh yeah…. When the second paint can was empty you can pull the nozzle out and use it in the can that was missing the nozzle…….
I installed a compass app on my smartphone. that's what you ladies need when you're in the woods. Also, you could pull the nozzle from an empty spray can, put it on the can with no nozzle, and use all that paint up too.
Sweet video ladies, the forestry and tree marking aspect looks very intriguing. That would be such a peaceful place to work, out among the trees. That's cool that you're Dad is skilled in that field. Keep up the inspiring work. 🌲💚🌲
We used to paint just one slash but also drive a spike and reflective tag for hedge, walnut, red oak, and Hackberry, and a full circle and tag for spruce, cherry, maple, and sycamore.
Grab a lenstatic compass put it on a lanyard, and take your bearings when you go into the forest. You'll never get lost but you might have to hike 10 miles! I learned my chops in the Chequamegon National Forest.
OMG, it's remarkable how much pressure you are accepting upon your shoulders. The entire RUclips community is behind your valiant efforts to mark the trees for logging.
It was fun getting lost in the forest with you both. That underbrush is no joke. I see several comments / advice of what to pack w/ ya on the next tree marking adventure. I suggest bringing a machete. I was surprised neither of you tied your hair back.
A few supplies you should take along when going in deep woods: water, snack bars; a first-aid kit with mylar blanker; a compass; flashlight; knife; cell phone or walkie-talkies; insect repellent; tall boots, hat, or hoodie; and yes, gloves.
Glad you two found your way safely out of the woods. Some of the newer iPhones have Satellite Phone capabilities which would allow you to call for help even when you are outside of the regular cellular coverage. Stay safe ladies. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Well that was a fun watch. It really is so easy to get turned around and basically lost, in large wooded areas. I did my share of that as a teenager. Not spraying just wandering. Though i did spray some just to get me a reference point, from time to time. I recommend you guys get your own drone. A simple good one is right around a hundred dollars.
Hey Jade and Emerald. Congratulations Emerald, he's a lucky guy. Be happy together. I also want to say that please vote. The good old days for you both are decades off. life is such that there is no going back and please keep up your good works.
Well this was certainly different. I'll bet this marking with help your Dad move through cutting trees much faster. As we approach winter he will need to increase the inventory of logs to ensure material for firewood and to be milled. Great job 👏👏
Spent one summer marking trees in the Tuscarora State Forest, not fun! Had to carry a 30lb pait sprayer backpack up and down the mountains. Ended up walking into a ground wasp nest one day... OUCH!!
I marked every tree stand and important locations with a Garmin GPS unit many years ago and transferred the info to topo maps in various sizes years ago. So, I always had a map in my daypack and never got lost again! Today, there are GPS apps for your cellphones.
Emerald Jade I am so happy for you that you had as much fun as you anticipated. I think you’re right about Jade going into forestry she should do it love the outdoors everything that goes along with. It sounds great to me.
Living on the Oregon coast it's common for 12 foot tall brush and anywhere west of the Cascade Range. I've done a lot of backpacking and going cross country is tough. I admire the loggers and Timber Cruisers. Some of the toughest people I know are loggers.
Never had so much fun getting lost in the woods. Vining plants in the under-story make traversing difficult, for sure. Job well done, Emerald and Jade!
From, around in the Berkshires. Every year every tree is amazing! Mark it out. I just went up. Bc it rained. Mushroom picking. Hunting s. Starts 10/7 around here😅
Without a doubt 2 awesome very lovely gals to go hiking with ! 😘 Glad that you had no encounter with snakes. I'm certain you were cautious for ticks or bees.
I saw your sawmill area today and I saw one of the girls with my own eyes we was taking are truck and 5th wheel camper to liberty bodywork the truck was black 2500 heavy duty hemi 2016 6.7 liter I was quite surprised when I saw it going by their location is now exposed
Two suggestions for getting lost: Take a compass with you and note what direction you started to go. 2. have a radio blaring at the base, truck.. Maybe a a rotating light in blue or red very high to see and find your way home.
Here is Australia Poison ivy. Ticks. And snakes are troublesome. And of course, the cuddly drop bears,, ( koalas ) 🤪😉 , I personally do not have the hair management trouble that you girls have. Lol. Good video ladies. Oi oi oi
Talk about damsels in distress meets nymphs of the forest ! I do a lot of 'off the track' hiking here in Australia (aka bush bashing) and tripping up is definitely the most common hazard
I love the tree that had all the Bears bread that's what we call it in Kodiak Island Alaska on our huge Sitka spruce check out Sitka spruce trees I have been hunting with two other men and we cannot reach around the tree and touch our hands the three of us that's how big they get here I have a still 044 Farm Boss with a big blade and still it's lots of work
If I were able. I'd love to come down to Pennsylvania and help you mark before leaf fall. Also CONGRATULATIONS ON 200,000 SUBSCRIBERS! I've watched you grow since Samantha was front and centre. You guys are my favorite channel. The whole family are fun to watch. I'm a 30 year recently retired urban lumberjack out of Toronto. Love you all. Keep on.
Now imagine yourself marking out trees on a 45-degree incline or carrying a 20 lbs to 30 lbs chainsaw, axe and felling wedges through it on an incline. As for marking we always used a very large X and tried to keep the marks all facing one direction.
I sure hope there was a thorough check for ticks. Especially with wading through all that brush, head first and on the ground. Lyme disease is no joke.
Fun video, reminds me of Boy Scouts 60 years ago, and the Army 50 years ago. Is that an engagement ring on Emerald’s left hand? My grandnephews will be crushed.
can I suggest you looking into a GPS location finder, they are used by outdoorsman all the time, all you do is set your base camp way point and off you go, you can also set way points so you know where you marked already.
"I feel like we need to go that way" is the quickest way to get off track in the woods on an overcast day. That's when my trusty compass comes in handy--except for the one time I convinced myself that my compass was wrong--in the dark--oops! I came out of the woods on a road a mile from where I was supposed to be.
Is nice to see that Jade likes to be more on scene and talk about the experience.
I think Emerald has developed that in Jade
Yes, I also enjoyed seeing more of her.

Exactly! Over night ability just in case.

We got waterproof iPhones with satellite connectivity old man 😊
@@glass1258 And backup batteries?
I feel that Jade is really natural, honest and a take her as you find her type of person. She comes across as very genuine.
Definitely! A star.
This channel is rapidly becoming the best source of comedy on RUclips.
You two couldn't be more beautiful, inside and out!
Duh, I think they know this
I 100% agree, wonderful ladies from a wonderful family!
hope this doesn't sound corny but you girls are blessed to have a noble and respectful and let me just say awesome father, that also explains your success as videographers and loggers of America.
Best to paint a stripe all the way around the tree instead of just a dot. Makes them easier to spot! 👍
goes through paint quicker though. It is a good idea, maybe take 8 cans instead of 3. 4 for each girl.
I agree with Jade that this video was a lot of fun! Reminds me of my youth running through thick brush in our forest.
Jade is so humble and sincere. A breath of fresh air.
Everything is Beautiful ~ you Guys' complement nature/your environment Beautifully
SAVE THE CAN USE THE TOP OFF A USED CAN 😊😊
Jade is the Bomm
They both are!
Wood Nymphs frollicking in the forest, love it.

A compass app is OK so long as you have a cell signal.
Without service on your cell phones, they are junk. You shouldn't depend on them in the woods.
a smartphone won't help if it doesn't have service, so a small compass would be good backup.
@@brucemiller3562 An iPhone can still tell you your heading without cell service. It's got a flux gate sensor.
@@billstarr9396 I don't need a cell signal for my app.

Grab a lenstatic compass put it on a lanyard, and take your bearings when you go into the forest. You'll never get lost but you might have to hike 10 miles! I learned my chops in the Chequamegon National Forest.

I like your dog! When I was a little kid Rin Tin Tin was my favorite show just because of the dog
A few supplies you should take along when going in deep woods: water, snack bars; a first-aid kit with mylar blanker; a compass; flashlight; knife; cell phone or walkie-talkies; insect repellent; tall boots, hat, or hoodie; and yes, gloves.
enough so you can survive over night if you have to.
that was fun thank you girls for sharing . i would like to see more of this kind of adventure. i love it!!😃😃❤❤❤
Suggest you always paint the dot on the side of the tree opposite of your approach to it Then when you walk out, walk towards the dots.
Pocket compass and spray a line on the opposite side of the tree so you can see where to go back
Thanks!

Good to take a break in the woods ladies! Yall have a good weekend.
I was seeing lots of what appeared to be Mountain Laurel. I bet that's gorgeous in the spring when it's blooming.
Y'all are restoring my faith in good people!

Your phone should have a GPS on it . Mark a waypoint on it when you start; when your finished mark another waypoint and back track.

Logging is such a dangerous job, even more so if done alone, my Dad always said, not if you're gonna get hurt, but when and how bad
You guys need to do a thorough tick check when you get back . . . if you get back!
You both are such hard workers; your parents are spoiled!
Jade looks good 😀✨️📹💯
Just b careful and be safe guys ❤❤
Getting lost in the woods with the Breon sisters. That's a great line!

🌳In lieu of a compass 🌳just remember 🌳 moss always grows on the north side or a tree 🌲🌳🌲🌳
Thanks for the woodland adventure, ladies! Your necks should be sore from looking up all day! Have a great weekend! TTFN
I was expecting at least 1 bigfoot to show up and be curious about what was crawling through it's woods. Nice video!
Bigfoot are camera shy. No chance of getting one in a video.
You are both so incredibly beautiful with matching personality's, and that pup is pretty cute too.

A drone would be useful for inspecting the tops of them trees, or binoculars? Jade would be an awesome forester! Good call Emerald!
