The 90s Japanese sports car market for completely stock and low mileage examples has exploded during Covid. Twin Turbo Supras being the big stand out selling for over $150K at auction. Other than variables like the semi conductor shortage the government’s push for banning the sale and production new gas powered cars in the near future is also drastically influencing the market by increasing the values of products that will soon never be produced unless a clean alternative fuel is introduced. Agreed the market is shifting to newer vintage cars for millions of $$$. You hit the nail on the head when you said younger people are interested in newer cars and most successful of that group can afford the million $$$ investor cars and enjoy driving them.
He's so thrilled the market is exploding, and its the reason he's putting this video out. Propagating waves that have already resulted from the past year. Whats annoying about this era in the car markets is that many non-collector, non enthusiasts are deciding to opt in, driving up prices for everybody that already loved these cars. When the markets are doing well like they are today, everybody will boast about what they're sitting on at the local cars and coffees, but in mid 2009 nobody gave supercar ownership a second thought. During times like that, only those that truly loved cars showed up to buy them, maintain them, and appreciate them. We are due for a serious market correction which I hope happens, because collecting certain cars is not something to be reserved for a select few, but a passion loved and shared by many.
This is sort of a ridiculous comment. None of the cars shown were ever particularly affordable. We're talking about cars that cost 300k in LEAN times! There are certainly interesting sports cars that can and are be enjoyed by the many... Porsche, Alfa, lotus, BMW, MINI, etc. Ferrari, Lamborghini and the like were never the everymans sports cars and thats fine.
The young people buying supercars now are likely analytical by nature. Success requires an analytical mind or wealth is squandered. These are not the young people counting on the Powerball for their retirement.

One other factor that is driving used enthusiast cars value sky high - The fact that newer cars are just not all that desirable. Sure they're stupid fast and insanely capable, but I think this new wave of collectors and car enthusiasts (like me) by in large are not all that into the new stuff and gravitates to the older cars because of two factors: a) New sports / super car's limits are so high they are not as excited to drive at non-stupid speed. Track days are fun but if you just have a few hours on the weekend and want to enjoy your local back roads or mountain pass on a Sunday morning, the newer cars are just not all that exciting to drive unless you're going triple digits. This leads to the second problem... b) They're all kind of the same - Because all the new sports / exotic cars are so capable and so well sorted out, on almost all roads they'll all feel pretty much exactly the same (unless you're going stupid speed) - same turbocharged power, same insanely high handling only limited by mechanical grip of the tire, same fake crackle and bangs from the manufactured exhaust sound, same insanely precise (but a little dead) EPS rack, same ultra fast and smooth double-clutch or ZF gearbox. I'm legitimately struggling to think what new sports or exotic cars I would want that is for sale today. None of the Ferraris or Lambos really interest me. The McLarens are a curiosity for me at this point more than anything. Other than the new Porsche GT cars, and maybe the current Mazda Miata or the new Lotus Emira, I can't really think of anything else I would want.
