Your ship model are, in general, very good. The collision happened at 11:20pm at night. Stockholm was entering fog, Andrea Doria was in the thick of it.. Ile De France arrived in the morning, while it was still dark. Doria's right side lifeboats were all launched, port side were trapped in place. The doomed liner had a massive hole under the starboard bridge wing and immediately assumed an 18 degree list which increased in fits and starts. When she finally went over, her bow descended to the sea bed first, and hit the ocean floor before her stern was evacuated of air. I've written a book about the collision and wreckage, so I know from whence I write. Your graphics are good, but the sequences are not in correct order or incomplete. The first lifeboats to reach SS Stockholm carried white jacketed stewards from the Andrea Doria who fled the latter before the passengers they were serving were able to escape in the lifeboats that remained.
I was reading a book long time ago which unfortunately I can’t remember name but shortly after the collision, one of the poor crewmen of the Stockholm got wrapped up by one of the anchor chains and was dragged under to his death; don’t think his body was recovered. Another survivor of the Doria saw a woman passenger stumbling out of the wreckage and clearly mortally wounded (just mentioned side/stomach was torn open), and fell overboard out of the impact hole.

Great video BSL! But I noticed some things that differ from how it actually happened: First of all, the collision was late in the night (11:10 pm); the Ille de France arrived at the scene some hours later, in the early morning, not the early evening; and finally, the Andrea Doria sank bow first, not all as a whole. But, as I said, great video anyway. I love that ship and its story. RIP all the 51 people who died in the disaster 🙏🏼
The survivors were very lucky that the ship didn't sink more rapidly and that the Ille de France among others were able to respond. Hundreds of lives were spared, this could have easily been another Empress of Ireland or even Titanic level disaster. Thankfully, it wasn't THAT tragic.
Great video. There was a series of photos taken from a small aircraft overhead as the ship sank. At 8:07 in this video is when the sea the entire length of the ship was boiling white foam as roomfuls of air escaped from inside.
The video is a good effort but I don't think it captures the emotion behind this sinking. It may be the limitations of the simulator but read this account of a sailor aboard a rescue ship. "At least an hour after our arrival on the scene, I saw a dim form of a large ship emerging from the darkness and moving quite rapidly in our direction. There were no lights visible other than the required red and white running lights. The red lights being visible indicated that this ship was going between the "Andrea Doria" and the "Thomas." When it got into position,we could feel the vibrations as the huge ship backed down full astern and came to a stop. For a few seconds, this ship remained almost totally dark. Then, all in unison, every light on this ship must have been turned on including a huge sign in lights that read "Ile de France". At the exact same time, every lifeboat began to be lowered and touched the water at precisely the same moment. The fleet of lifeboats then began moving en masse toward the "Andrea Doria." The arrival of the "Ile de France" was like grand theatrical production. The star of the "Andrea Doria" tragedy, she announced her arrival on the scene in a grand way. It was like she was saying, "I am here and all is under control." The majority of the crew and passengers aboard the "Andrea Doria" were rescued by the "Ile de France."---Memories of the event by Ernest R. Melby, EM1 USN, crew member of the USNS "Private William H. BOTH ships had radar and knew of each other's position, but still turned in such a way that made the collision inevitable. Showing a visual of the radar screens in this simulation would've been good. As it is, this simulation implies it was the fog to blame for the collision and resulting deaths.
You have to realize to the doria had only lessen her speed slightly; while she was still in the fog bank. An unfortunate incident; it perhaps could have been worse; ie: more lives lost if ships did not heed her call for assistance. Brand new book out on this tragedy, "The Last Voyage of the Andrea Doria" by Greg King and Penny Wilson.
EYOO WHAT THE FRICK STOCKHOLM DID HAS BIG PILLERS😂😂😂
Andrea Doria: *literally sinks*
All ships hearby: *aight ima head out*
The ships stayed with the andrea doria even after the sinking, none of them left her side.
The first lifeboats to reach SS Stockholm carried white jacketed stewards from the Andrea Doria who fled the latter before the passengers they were serving were able to escape in the lifeboats that remained.
My dad was part of the Coast Guard rescue team. He still has pictures of her just before she sank.
Stockholm be lIke, ‘yeah, sorry bout dat. I’m out. ✌️’
These r so cool like live action, but sad to think what they went through on board 😮😢
I'll wait until it's released I don't miss it for anything in the world
So sad to see great ships die like this.....At least the Stockholm survived.
Great job,as ever😎👌!
Someone needs to do an Ile De France video as well. A great ship sent to be scrapped.
Titanic disaster hero: RMS Carpathia
Andrea Doria disaster hero: SS Ile de France
Huge respect from India🇮🇳
even the US Navy played a role in the rescue the USS Edward H Allen picked up survivors including Capt. Calamai and bridge vrew
El de France be like: 𝓑𝓸𝓷𝓳𝓸𝓾𝓻....... Andre Doria be like: WHAT THE **** IS THAT
when the Andrea Doria was built, the most expensive part was to glue the pool water to the ship
This is the maritime version of when you come face to face with someone on the street and you have to decide to go to the left or right of them
Here as a Tomb Raider 2 fan, researching the Andrea Doria, the ship the Maria Doria was based on ☺️
Your video is amazing, informative, the music used sounds epic and really made me feel anxious for the events about to follow.. Genius work. 👏🏻
3.40-4.10 the last part of the second tune used, in the background, on a completely unrelated note.. Please can someone else confirm that I wasn't the only one that can slightly hear BMTH's Tell Slater solo from 2.53-3.30 🤔
Just me? 😅
That pool water said NO to gravity
My wife's parents were booked on that trip back to New York after their honeymoon but cancelled at the last minute. She still has the tickets
Whoa! 😳 Your in-laws got lucky!
My grandmother immigrated from Italy to NY in 1955, shortly before it’s maiden voyage. Insanity
I would love to see a remake on this video.
Great video as always Blue Star Line!!
My grandmother's sister-in-law was on that ship went it went down. They were coming over from Italy to attend the wedding of my grandmother's nephew. Since they were not wealthy, they had rooms below decks. Those were the ones who did not survive. It made for a solemn wedding day. I was young, but I remember it.
Wait really
@@messerschmitt7240 Considering only 34 died, what were the odds my grandmother's sister-in-law would be one of the casualties. My thinking is she was probably killed at the time of the collision.
This is VERY well done (aside from the fact there is no hole in the DORIA's starboard side).
An amazing and heart touching vid man
Agree, perfectly made- thanks!
Thunderbird 1 indeed 🙏🏼 thank God that nobody else were lost
I always read the Ile de France arrived around 2 in the morning... Talk about about "almost night fall"...
Nice job on the Stockholm bow damage. looks real! Wonderful job on this!
Thank you very much!
Great video. There was a series of photos taken from a small aircraft overhead as the ship sank.
At 8:07 in this video is when the sea the entire length of the ship was boiling white foam as roomfuls
of air escaped from inside.
Thomas.
Stockholm: hey watch out!
Andrea Doria: who said that? 2 seconds later...
Andrea Doria: oh it was you who sai- uh oh i think i'm sinking
Stockholm: ok i think i'm fine so I'll launch my Lifeboat's
Captain Calamai was determined to go down with the ship, and left it last after his crew threatened to reboard the Andrea Doria and go down with him.
Many sources report that his last words on the verge of death were "is everyone safe?". What a great man Piero Calamai.
The sign of true courage. Quite a brave captain.
if they ever want to raise a ship this would be the one
i read a story that a girl was in the cabin that the stockholm hit and she got
caught up in the front of the stockholm and pulled out of her cabin still in her bed
she was hanging off the front of the stockholm a few days untill crew heard her screaming for
help and saved her
There really needs to be model kits of the STOCKHOLM and the ANDREA DORIA... Along with the EMPRESS OF IRELAND, CARPATHIA, CALIFORNIAN, LUSITANIA, and other famous shipwrecks.
fun fact: stockholm is still in service
Edit 1 : i did not copied i wrote this on my own seriously i did not copy this
Turbokiller30 PH 30 You copies You Rick rolled by John D.
Copied
I think it’s out of service now
@@hasnahm8690 shut up nobody cares
In case anyone is just curious today marks 20 years since the sinking of the Russian naval submarine Kursk
Fun Fact. The Stockholm (Now the Astoria) is NO LONGER SAILING. Its final voyage was scheduled for October 2020 but has been laid up since March due to the CoronaVirus and the ship was "arrested" in June by Maritime and Coastguard officers.
Andrea doria is italy
Italian, if your asking yes she belongs to a italian ship company
I really like that model of the Stockholm
You did not get some of the facts right. The Stockholm collided with Andrea Doria shortly after midnight and Andrea Doria sank the next morning. The collision did NOT occur during the day!
O my gosh that incredible. Man my congratulations 👏. Hello from Ukraine
The stern was like a pivot. Once the list got extreme, the bow started to sink first.
Fun fact: stolkholm still sails in this day it is called the Ms Astoria
Very distinguishing Italian styling. She was beautiful.
I thing the same. For me Andrea Doria was a very elegant ship. Now I want the model to build... And the Lusitania, and Olympic
@@FrancescoDoria114 She did had a sister ship which had a trouble free carrier: SS Cristoforo Colombo
@@JustPeasant Yup. And the almost identical leonardo da vinci in service since 1960, even burned down
Jesus christ the MS Stockholm didn't cut the Andrea Doria in half.
Andrea Doria: *sinks*
MS Stocholm: and im still standing 🗣️🗣️
Beautiful, thank you.
Thank you too!
I see the second sister of Rms Olympic in your profile. Beautiful ships like the Rms Mauretania
@@FrancescoDoria114 The ship in my profile picture is RMS Olympic. Can you not tell; she has her open A-Deck Promenade?
@@brandedswdsman My mistake. Indeed, two. There are no photos like that of the Titanic. I remember reading that the Olympic promenade was open, unlike the Titanic and the Britannic
@@FrancescoDoria114 Indeed, that’s right.
The Stockholm had its fricking bow missing. It's a damn health hazard
Because most of the Stockholm's Ice Breaker prow was in the starboard side of the Andrea Doria
It wouldn't be health hazard you moron, try navigational hazard
Of 1,706 passengers and crew on the Andrea Doria 1,661 were rescued by numerous vessels
Very insightful, Great animation 👍👍
Also, you may be able to take a cruise on the Stockholm as it is currently under the name of MS Astoria.
Also, music?
Sadly, the Astoria is to be withdrawn from service this October.
@@xavierlauzac5922 that's sad. I wonder if there are any other ships from the late 40s early 50s that are still in service
she was grounded in March
Surprised that they never made a movie about this
Beautifully done. !!
In giving this a ten out of ten
Beautiful music.
My friend George lost a really good apartment because of this shipwreck!!
George should've slipped the people deciding a 50
Fun Fact: The Stockholm is still in service....albeit with changes and with a change of name as well
Nah it was retired last year
One would think that the pool water on the Andrea Doria
would have spilled out once on it's side but I'd be wrong!
Andrea Doria💪💪🤩🤩🇮🇹🇮🇹💓💓👑👑
Stockholm 👌👌👌🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪💪💪💪
I stay in Italy and this ship is Italian! I am Italian and I love italia
Anche io sono italiano e non amo molte cose dell'Italia. Tuttavia bisogna essere orgogliosi di una nave del genere, anche se è affondata. Un vero peccato.
Even with her heavy listing she remained afloat till morning 11 hours after collision.
My great aunt, her husband and their baby were on the ship
It still hurts today...
Can you do one of one of the current ferries of Condor Ferries? A fictional sinking basically
Just so you know this wasn’t her first voyage
Ok
👍
