    I wish I could re-experience the feeling of realizing, how easy this game is. All it takes is to learn and know what you're doing. Like in real life, you can't just pick up a sword and expect to be a knight. You have to work for it and train. That goes outside of combat too. You want to be a master persuader ? You need to talk to people. Somebody who rarely left his home town might not be good at that.
    I love this game so much words can't express it enough. I visited the in game locations for real with my dad last summer and had a great time. There's only one thing missing for it to be perfect. ... A sequel.

    All about them perfect blocks. I can usually take down expert, highly armored opponents in under 30 seconds. I really don’t get all the hate for the combat system. It takes some time to get used to, and it helps having higher stats on your skills, but it’s soooo much better than the mindless, lazy combat in games like skyrim.

The wobble and draw of the bow, speed of sword swings, combat perks, etc. It's expertly done, and makes players think they are vastly improving their skills, which they are to some extent, but most of the progression of "skill" is built into the game.

    Instead of dedicating the mouse to selecting five different strike angles on that little star reticle, they should've left the mouse for only looking arround- and to aim prepared angled attacks at the enemy model's legs/arms/wrists/throat/armor straps etc. To this, they then should've implemented Dark Messiah's method for selecting these angled attacks while moving- so you can easily adjust to the enemy model's position before releasing them:
    WASD keys + Power Strike preparation(hold mouse1). Power strikes in Dark Messiah can be held while moving freely until mouse1 is released- and ALT allows precise footwork in the combat space.
    A+mouse1 = arms move the sword for a swipe to the right upon release.
    W+m1 = arms lift the sword above your head for a forward thrust.
    D+ m1 = arms direct the sword for a swipe to the left
    S+ m1 = arms retract the sword into a prepared forward thrust(too much like W+m1,).
    Mouse2 is for parrying/blocking and allso lets you seamlessly switch into the different strike stances as you move- without letting your swordarm down. Parry/block animation allso forces the prepared Power Attacks to snap into position(a glitch).

    the combat in this game looks great until you realise how janked it is. just master strike constantly, win clinches so you can get a free hit, and feint nonstop. and even when you get a free hit from a master strike, enemy whiff, clinch, or feint there's a 50% chance any follow up attack will just let your enemy master strike you rather than allowing you to continue a combo. Unless any more experienced player can convince me I'm wrong then I'm fairly sure combos, and also any proper use of positioning, are heavily janked and that combat basically comes down to quick time events and abusing game mechanics. whenever I try to position and throw out thrusts from max distance the enemy just closes the distance with a semi teleporting master strike, and on the other hand getting too close to the enemy and trying to get behind them in 1v1s results in clipping into them and your attacks go right through them.

      When war is on armor for the bandit is plentiful. Most bandits are deserters and take the armor with them. 99% of warriors got a stationary armor and was told to deal with it. Fited armors where for the cowards that never fight. Hence why ud never find it in the battle feild. The witcher showed how often a present can come across loot on a battlefield untlill the victor pics it up. The Germanic people of ancient northern Europe defected the Roman 14th and 15 infinity with just Roman equipment found in the forest. And there still finding it. The romans went back 3 4 times and still found things. Plus the Roman's never got the 14th and 15th infinitry back. I mean oblivion was unrealistic with the armor bandits had to about 50%. But that what happens when u only have access to 10 armor sets, and ure playing an unrealistic game lmfoa. Compared to one where any bandit can bang iron and make a 3 layered outfit. So comparing the two was just a bad idea in the fist place.

      You meet all sorts of bandits in the game and heavily armored brigands amongst them. I come from Moravia, one of the parts of kingdom in question and I live in a proximity of castle Helfštýn, which was build by a marauding knight. King John of Bohemia had to react and besiege the castle. Helfštýn's case is not isolated. + There was a very lucrative business in stealing horses, which could be crazy expensive back in the day, so people, who stole them could afford better armor sets.

    My main gripe is the groups. You’re basically screwed no matter how good you are. 1v1 I’ll win everytime but once it’s a group I have no chance. I know it’s for realism so I can get past it. Just frustrating when it feels like you never even had a chance

    • @reonthornton685
      @reonthornton685 2 года назад

      I have managed to win in a 4 Vs 1 against plated enemies by playing mostly defensive. It is possible, but positioning goes from important to absolutely critical, as well as stamina conservation since it is both your shield against health damage as well as your attack energy.

    • @peepiepo
      @peepiepo 2 года назад

      @@reonthornton685 The problem I find is when you're trying to circle your enemy to get a better position, he just moves so damn slowly. It makes it almost impossible to not get surrounded.

    • @reonthornton685
      @reonthornton685 2 года назад

      @@peepiepo Well, yeah, that's realistic. To move quickly you can't keep your battle stance up.
      It's why footwork is so important. Your enemies know this, and they'll be constantly trying to get behind you. You can't let yourself get tied down in one spot, and you will occasionally get surrounded no matter how well you do, because your enemies are also competent enough to understand the importance of positioning.
      Just remember that sprinting away is usually an option as long as you've been conserving stamina. It'll allow you to reset the playing field if you do get surrounded as they'll have to chase you in a line before trying to do it again.
      There's always times you just... lose, but the more you do it, the better you'll get at it.

    So, before you do the watch with Nightingale in Rattay, wait a day and go back to Bernard in the morning. Quickly go through the last couple training modules (combos ,master strike, etc.) Then do some free training with your chosen weapon until it gets dark. Go rest at the pub down the road. In the morning go back to the training ring and wait for Bernard to show up. Again, free train with him until dark.
    I did this yesterday. I decided to go learn to read right after. Barely made it out of Rattay before I was ambushed by three Cumans ob the road. First guy gets master striked immediately and dies lol, the other two took a couple more master strikes.
    I was like "hell yeah, that's what I call training."

I understand this game has a realistic combat and you have to think before attacking and blocking is as important as attacking, but do you have the option of like stabbing the enemies right through the stomach or cutting their necks or smt if they let their guard down to make it faster?

      Well, not really, there are no mechanics like that. This fight took so long because I used a sword. The best option would be to fight with a mace in this game against armored opponents, then it is faster, but I like the sword more 😀Also the level of the enemy makes the fight such that they can block most of your attacks, so it always takes time.

      Close? You can attack unarmored areas. The guy in the video wasn't fighting well. If you want to win fast with someone who has an exposed face, you go for the face.
      After you a riposte, you stab their face, after a combo, stab the face, after a clinch, stab the face. You do a lot of master strikes, quite a few involve the face. And if your level is high enough, doing combos that finish on the face like Fehler: Scarmaker. Have fun!
