My body is ready for that comic. Reminds me of the old school comics and manga of the 90s with a spice of Dr. Seuss because of the style. It's not trying to be pleasing to the eye with the looks because it seems to be pleasing from the plot like how old manga and comics were like.
I know what book I'm picking up this weekend. Thanks so much, man.
btw, your avatar is cute as hell. lol
Ikr, that smile of his avatar is melting me.
At my comic shop, there's a rack next to the checkout desk that has independent graphic novels like that. Not great art but good stories. Back when I had money to spend on comics, those were the only comics I ended up buying. And two Avatar: The Last Airbender hardbacks--which also had good stories. One series of graphic novels I liked was called Amulet; cheap for the amount of pages in each book, but the authors released the books several months apart.
Chris Collins I think I've seen the latter at a book fair.
The Amulet!!! Omg, I love that one!!! One of my other all time favs is Bone (out from boneville is what the first book is called I think).
The art looks odd, but good
Heh.. Being Dutch, the art looks quite normal to me, since I grew up on comics by Jean 'Moebius' Giraud, Derib and Hermann. But I also knew and loved the Marvel and DC style. So strange to me that European styles are so unknown in the US.

Smallpotato1965 these are good. Die zijn prima
It's better than all the overly colorful overweight character art they've been pumping out latly.
Neonajarin that's true. It is like a breath of fresh air
That's what makes it pulp
Thanks JSG for putting me onto this. Gonna check it out for sure.
I really enjoyed this one. Pope has such a great art style. It’s a cross with classical and pop/manga. Really liked his Batman Year 100, too.
This sounds fucking amazing.
Love that matrix reference you threw in there tho.
Hell yes, blending genres can be amazing thanks for the review
Fascinating! Your 'good stuff' reviews are some of the best I've seen. I got tired of Comics Explained unequivocal fanboying.
Thx
Just Some Guy
have made arrangements at my LCS to get the series on this.
Enjoyed your review.
Looks like he will get along with shounen bat and Billy bat
IMO it is more "When Pulp Comics meet Bande Dessines (Euro Comics)" but cool.
I love Battling Boy! Had to get this soon as I saw it!
So I haven't bought a comic for almost 40 years and DandC has made want to throw my money at the current state. To put in my 2 cents on SJW antics. But you have shown me what I want to throw my money at! I thank you and enjoy your videos!!
Definitely going to be checking this one out.
I hope you return to reviewing more comics. I have a feeling we are going to be getting some next level stuff from the vets like Paul Pope this year.
I had this comic, my teacher knew I couldn't afford to go to a field trip and she brought me back a signed copy of this and it was the day it was published in the US.
I spent like 3 years trying to remember the name cause I lost the comic after being homeless and not being able to pay for my mom's storage so I had to specifically look up the color and plot of the book on Google and lucky for me I have good memory when it comes to face or pictures lol
It's an amazing book and can't wait to continue the series
Wow, thanks for bringing this to my attention!
My thoughts exactly bout the ending. I read this book years ago, loved it, but I honestly don’t think I’d ever buy it solo. If ever a part 2 is made, I’ll definitely buy them both back-to-back.
Then again, I could always buy it as a gift and watch my brother go nuts afterward. ;)
*"Elephant In The Room"*
The art reminds me of Heavy Metal magazine stories. Love it
I'll have to check this book out. Thanks.
"Brother, you are the poet and builder amongst us but when I see this map all I see are battlefields and wars yet to come..."
It's written brilliant.
There are some Bande Dessine's that are quite combined with manga but not kids stuff - like Ekho, Ythaq... Really neat works. But Battling Boy is excellent.
sounds like an great story.
are you going to suggest the taking picture # the artist and company that puts it out...and the store you bought it from then do the move the needle thing?
you have 11k subscribers, if only half of them buy that book and tell the author they did so because of you, that would make that one book having been purchased by more people than many of marvel's current flagships.
I hadn't thought of that, but if folks want to do it, go for it.
Is rare as a unicorn but when Some just Guy avatar, smiles make me smile, going to check Battling Boy.
Glad someone is giving attention to First Second Books
i hate the fact that we've been told volume 2 is coming yet nothing announced over a few years now.
So basically manga and comics basically made a child
Will check it out
A non-cuckoid piece of fiction that is a successful hybrid of comics and manga? Considered me partially interested.
I hope one day comics and manga will combine and something higher will come out
Looks cool
I never wondered that but I guess here we go!
When you review good comics the best of your criticism because your don't just have to make fun of the obviously bad you can point out small details
Sounds like a good book.
see when you said it was going to be a fusion between manga and comics I was kind of hesitant cuz it's like a lot of the time stuff like that doesn't turn out well but then after hearing some of the stuff you said about how the story progresses it sounds f****** hilarious see I like I'm mostly worried about comedy but like it sounds like it's got a decent amount of stuff I'll laugh at😂👍 I think the best part about the story so far that I was listening to you say was good dad pretty much just like no time to go be a hero Knox of into the portal and leaves
i have both battling boy and batman year 100, both are good reads
One od my favorites
Damn I like this already
When are you gona start your indigogo comics i would buy it
Are you a bloodborne fan? I just saw the first issue of the comic just came out :3 Meanwhile time to check out Battling Boy.
You should check lastman then it's a genre mix too
Honestly i like this style then the streamlined art style where its basic coloring and no further personality
The premise reminds me of Yakusoku no Neverland/ The Promised Neverland.
Read it loved it, but it lacks montly consistency they just sort of pop up whenever.Kind of a buzzkill conidering how cool it is.
Not a Paul Pope fan but this looks interesting.
whats the age range on this? tia
It's all ages.
I like battle manga
:3
Has anyone ever thought to ship this guy with appabend. Just curious
What da hell is it?
I hate you for introducing such a good comic to me that doesn't continue. Man this sucks lol.
Great story crappy art
