"Shew. He's a monster; he's so slick." You'll find that to be an understatement after watching his "solo and Korn medley" video form his 11/8 clinic at Seminole Music in Florida.
No doubt. Rays a beast. I said the same thing .....and I think I pissed a little
Bro he blue balled the hell outta me pausing RIGHT before the breakdown 😂😢
Haha. My bad
Ray is my absolute favorite drummer on this planet! His groove/feel is unmatched and the man is so educated and proficient! Ray is a freaking beast!
You sir are the man. Ray is a monster. Youre so on point on everything about the genre too. The drum grooves of Korn, Pantera, Deftones changed music. When you mentioned "Be Aggressive" I bout fell out of my chair. A man after my heart. Bigtime sub and I dont even play drums but love the instrument. Great channel!!
Thank you. That comment made my day.
when i first heard "blind" i was hooked. i didnt even know i liked music that hard until then
"Limp Bizkit sucks"
Hey, you know what would be cool? Doing a video on their drummer John Otto 😏👀
They're sick
Junk drummer take them to the Matthews bridge!!!!
Idc what anyone says I like everything from Chocolate Starfish back to $3 bill and I find it so hard to believe no one likes them yet they sold millions of albums 😂
@@tdawggonzo88 People think theyre cool not liking anything other that one type of music or even one type of rock/metal... theyre missing out. LB are pure fun especially live. their loss. lol
I get the hate but there's 4 talented members in the band. No use in throwing them away because of one jerk in a red hat 🤷
Korn are underrated! Loving this channel so much, it’s giving me a wider vocabulary about drumming that is helping me communicate with our drummer even better AND you turned me onto Steely Dan!! 🤤I’m Aja obsessed currently. Would love to hear your take on Refused - The Deadly Rhythm or any song from that record. Thanks man 🔥
Ray is the man! MY FAV
Do Alex Bent from Trivium, especially the song "The Sin and the Sentence”
I've never really liked Korn but man can he drum!!! Holy shit that was awesome! New found appreciation for the band 👍👍🤘🤘🤘
“Clown” is funky as hell to and dark as shit, definitely my favorite song by korn
Dave was great and helped set the style of Korn. But Ray is on another level man. You should watch the clinics he does.
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Zain Lucian instablaster ;)
@Jayden Layton Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jayden Layton It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Zain Lucian Glad I could help =)
YAASSSSS, I WAS WAITING FOR THAT SINCE A LONG TIME!🔥🔥🔥🔥
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
INCREDIBLE ANALYSE AS ALWAYS!👍👍👍
I’M GOING TO SEE KORN IN TWO MONTHS!
Thank you!!
Mike Bordin played for Korn back when Silvera broke his arm in like 2000. He killed it with minimal prep.
Think I saw that live because it wasn't Silvera. Dude killed it.
It was when David had his first wrist surgery
As a prog composer, your videos are very useful to deconstruct many genre of drumming and incorporate those appropriately in my music. I'm already used to analysing melodic and harmonic structures in music and find inspiration through various artists, but rythmic analysis is a whole another story and I find your videos to be a really good starting point to dig into studying drumming from a composer's perspective. Thumbs up !
Ray plays Silveria's parts live better and more consistently than Silveria ever did. And the stuff that he adds, he adds in a way that makes it seem like it should've always been there.
Well said. Agree.
I completely disagree. He's obviously very skilled, but for my personal taste, he's clearly overplaying most of the time. Silveria may not have had his chops, but he focused more on laying down a solid, heavy groove, which I find to be instrumental to this band, and is actually one of the reasons why I like old Korn way more than the new stuff.
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum That's it! Ray is a very good and solid drummer. But his drum parts are often overload. BTW Ray can't play "Chi" as David did.)))
silveria wrote those hits
Ray overplays the parts that silveria wrote
Hey man, I'm not a drummer but I'm digging your videos the past few days, subscribed!
I love Ray Luzier! He’s a great player very musical especially in a metal band! Love his other band too KXM.
Nice job Steve!
It was weird. When I first got into Korn and fell in love with them, the only thing that ever felt off about their songs was the drums.
I couldn't pinpoint what it was, but it was just like something was missing.
When Ray joined, he added that something that was seemingly missing.
Seeing them play the old songs live with Ray, it's so much more!
He's a beast
Ray is a fucking beast
I appreciate the way in which you evaluate these videos, as they allow me-someone who is much less qualified to evaluate these things- to compare and contrast my views with your own. In this manner you are informative and insightful, which as you're seeing will bring you your own audience.
Here is my take:
Ray is simply brilliant. He has the ability to play across a variety of styles, seamlessly moving in and out of each with smooth execution. His fills, while seemingly excessive to me at times by ear, fit well with the old Korn songs to provide them a signature all his own. This is how he is able to stand above David's shadow, rather than fill his space.
I became a korn fan in 2016 starting with the Serenity of Suffering, and as such, I don't have the original Korn 5 nostalgia to sway my views.
However-
After listening to Korn's discography extensively over the past three years-listening to each member exclusively on each play-I am finding that Korn's impact toward music cannot be understated. Each of the original 5 had something special individually which resulted in magic when put together. A loss of one takes a way from the magic of the whole. This is how I feel about Korn under David. While technically inferior, even in terms of consistency and skill, I am finding Ray hasn't duplicated the feel which David was able to create. David, with his Hip-Hop funk style and groove, was incredibly creative and was instrumental to their breakthrough. His beats were one of a kind, even when he was forced to simplify them extensively. (The difference in sound between the first three albums and those following led me to look into this). My opinion of course, but I was not a listener of Metal before Serenity of Suffering and was still on the fence. The self titled, Life is Peachy? They made me a full on metal head.
And as far as Limp Bizkit goes, while Durst was a questionable lyricist and by far their weakest link, he was surrounded by some incredibly capable musicians.
"They did spawn Limp Bizkit, so that's a pretty heavy sin for anyone to have to bear" - Truer words may have never been spoken.
Your channel deserved to be a lot bigger. You do a great job
Thank you. I'm trying my best.
Yes! Faith No More/ Mike Bordin mention!
Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies had a lot of funk with their metal.
That's a good point
I got to see them play this live on March 1st and it was awesome! I’m 28 and I’ve been a Korn fan since I was little through my parents 😁
Ray is a true musician and a monster on drums. #1
13:15 that double bass.. wow . Ray is a legend tho.. lots of people didn't know who he was pre-korn.. but he's been a boss for a while, he just got that break to be in front of tens of thousands of people that hadn't heard of him b4 to hear him beat the shit out a drum kit n sound WAYY better than David.. my opinion fuck off. I've been down with Korn since the beginning..
Yes! A split second before you said it I thought "Mike Bordin". Amazing drummer.
Alright sir, I've watched enough videos. You get my subscription.🤙🏽
Thanks!
I am not a big korn fan but I always liked Silveria but I love the feel and technique that Ray brings to the band. For me it allows for more room for growth. Also, Jonathan Davis is a drummer as well so he is probably a big influence on the feel of their music.
Fun reaction! I'm now gonna check out more Ray videos. Thanks!
He's the man
I love how much fun it looks like he's having while being really tight on the drums. Badass as fuck.
His drumming on the Army of Anyone album is INSANE
truth 👍🏻
finally, somebody giving korn uber respect..
im that much of a old school korn fan, my 21 year old daughter has the album cover from see you on the other side tattooed on her arm..
I loved this song when it come out but watching Ray play it made me love it more.
You seem to be a very educated musician and are also very informative. Thank you very much for ur videos.
Ray is on another level
GREAT VIDEO!
Definitely agree man! Ray totally encompasses KoRn. The band told him as soon as he got the gig that they wanted Ray Luzier, not to just play to the record but play like he feels. Ray says KoRn is ALL feel! They definitely are one of the best Nu Metal bands still to this day🤘🏻
#kornfan4life
Saw them in Nashville with Alice in Chains and it was amazing. Ray came down off the stage and give a little girl one of his sticks. I've met him a few times and he is the nicest guy.
You could do a whole video on how he plays the cymbals on this one with all the bells and splashes etc... honestly it's a work of art to listen to!
Hey man big fan of the videos. You mentioned doing one for David Silveira. There is a video of KoRn recording the Life is Peachy album in Indigo Ranch and David is tracking the song "Chi" although the whole band is playing the whole band is wired through the headphones of course so the only audible instrument is him playing drums. Just search David Silveria Indigo Ranch and you should see its a 7 minute video. Really impresses me everytime I see it.
I used to drum in my early 20s but had to give it up as time went on. I miss it sometimes to this day. I love your enthusiasm for the craft. After this I'm going to see if you have covered any Tool songs.
I've done 2
@@JunkdrummerTV I've subbed. I'm feeling the passion for percussion through your videos. Also great to hear in words what I've intuitively thought about certain drummers all my life. You are a great dude and I hope you achieve success
@@JunkdrummerTV also there is a viral RUclips video of a children's band performing, where the drummer is wearing a giant red costume suit and absolutely destroys. Best of luck
Thank you so much!!
Amazing drummer
@junkdrummertv
one of my favorite episode of yours to date ..lol I guess you can tell why lol love ur channel
Thank you man!
Ray is one of the greatest🙏
Steve! Love your stuff. Been following you for a while and you always take the words out of my mouth. Would love to see you do Ronnie Vannucci of the killers. He’s our age and he inspired me a lot in the early 2000’s. He’s got some good drum cam stuff so let’s go!
Ray is a fantastic drummer. I also like him in KXM!
Steve....one of my biggest regrets in life was giving up the drums...I am 47 now and "gave up" many years ago...was young and dumb....didn't want to take the time to "learn" the rudiments techniques just wanted to go fast and hard and when I reached a peak I was so frustrated that I just stopped....that was 30 years ago....However I do still have such a love of drumming....I love to hear it I love to see how far and technical it has become.....do I have a Drummer for you to check out....I think he is amazing...Martin Axenrot of Opeth....very technical...great drummer.
It's never too late to start again!!
Very true and believe me I have absolutely kicked the tires on picking up a set to play around on...was just the whole double base thing killed me...I just could not separate my upper from lower and it killed me.
2:18 you almost did the "MURRWRAWRA UURR RAHRAH" growl lol
I’m not a drummer but these videos are dope as. Subbed!
Bordin played with Korn when David's wrist got f'ed up. So I believe, yes, FNM was an influence. :)
Love your opinion most these types of channel just speak crap about whoever they're assessing but you a straight up Rock fan
Also, would love your reaction to Jay Lane of Primus (yes.....Primus) from the "Jilly's on Smack" Bonnaroo 2011 video. Lot's of fun hi-hat work.
Well. I have done a Tim Herb episode. Please check it out!!
@@JunkdrummerTV ........just did. Thanks. And mad props to a fellow Primus fan. Will watch your other videos as well.
Please do!
You have to check out Ray's playing on the KXM track Stars (Vic Firth video) Super creative and technical grooves!
OHHHH !!!!! Thank You for mentioning MIKE BORDIN
You should see if you can find a vid of Mike Bordin playing with Korn during the 2000 Summer Sanitarium tour. For a guy who only had a few weeks to practice for that tour, he fit like a glove.
Yeah. That's a great idea. Until commentors told me I had no idea he played with them. It makes sense.
@@JunkdrummerTV It's just a shame that there aren't any drum cams that I know of from that tour. I love watching that dude beat the hell out of the drums.
Ray Ray Is Just Straight Gnarly. He’s The Most, No Doubt.
Seen them 25 times since '98 family values tour. I love how Dave implemented the BASS pad on this song and ball tongue, make me bad etc. That shit booms on a proper system.
You should have covered his guitar center video. That b**** still holds up today!!
Great now i gotta wear that album out once again lol
Man I can’t wait to see Ray and the rest of these guys live again someday - this covid thing sucks
The first time i saw Korn live was precisely with Mike Bordin because Silveria broke his wrist. At the time we were pretty down when we knew but watching them live, he did fit pretty well.
Steve you need to check out Dan Presland of Ne Obliviscaris. And plague flowers the kaleidoscope live in Colorado or the Vic Firth ( I think) drum cam
Must be like 25yrs since I heard Korn for the first time. Their songs still give me a chubby.
I totally agree that David was influenced by Mike Bordin. FNM is one of my favorite bands. I was lucky enough to see Mike Bordin fill in for David on the issues tour. He fit in with korn very well, and it was an awesome show
Faith No More has another album in the works. Can not f'n wait. Have you done a Bordin video?
Oh I will be. I love Puff.
Just saw KoRn last week. 1st time seeing them w/ Ray. Man he was on fire. Great show. Speaking of being influenced by FNM... can’t wait to go to that show!
Me neither
You ever checked out Tomas Haake playing bleed? It is footwork that just doesn't stop!
I will be down the road
That kit/those shell stickers are BADA$$!!!
He's absolutely right, when Korn started releasing stuff, there really was no band like them... Even today, there's no band that I can say sounds like Korn... They are my favorite band, and have inspired me so much in life and my career.
Adored this breakdown!!! I know you did Jinjer but their song Pisces shows Vlads versatility a bit more, it's more melodic with dynamics and timing changes. Video recorded in studio shoes singer growl too!
Idk how to headbang to korn. Do I swing at the hips or move the head.
I highly recommend you checking out Vlad U from the band Jinjer. He is a very technical drummer who is very fun to watch and try to figure out. His style is very unique all around. He’s an extremely talented drummer.
People say he doesn't groove like David. Lol is all I've got to say about that.
Dude you should look at Ray's playing on the Army of Anyone record. They only made 1 album. They had Richard Patrick from filter on vocals. Robert and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots on guitar and bass with Ray on drums. From a financial perspective it was a colossal failure because it was the first "major" band to release a record without a record company on nothing more than their management company. Something youtubers do weekly these days. But back then, it was business insanity.
Ray's playing on that record for me, reminds everyone that Ray is still considered to be one of the best drummers to come out of Musician's Institute in Hollywood. Ever.
Seriously you should check out "Goodbye" by them as your introduction. You'll LOVE Ray's cymbal work on that track. Very different playing style to what he has to do in Korn. More Pridgen than Silviari for sure.
I would love to see you react to Anthrax’s “Nobody Knows Anything”. Charlie Benante wrote one of the craziest drum parts I have ever heard for that song.
Also a Chad Sexton reaction would be pretty damn cool.
Chad will be coming up
Junkdrummer TV Awesome! One of my favorite things about him is he marched Drum and Bugle Corps
Mine too
Music is the salve to a lot of wounds. Music has saved my life a many time.
There is actually a recent David video of him playing some Primus stuff. But of course, I am sure you're looking for a Korn track.
Hey man! Love the videos you do! Question...I uploaded a few videos of me playing at church. Could I get your opinion on the one that says "Catalyst Church - Reckless Love"? You have commented on a video of mine before. If you have time I would appreciate it a bunch!
Good call on FNM!!!! In my opinion, they are the most influential band since The Beatles.
They played everything from metal, punk, lounge, surf, pop, funk....PERFECTION!!!!! HUGE Faith No More fan!!!!!
mike bordin filled in on drums for korn in 2000 at some festivals! there are two sets up on here actually where he kills it i skim through them from time to time. i am kindly requesting for you to react to greg saunier from deerhoof. truly a marvel to listen to and see! I recommend either one of these videos: Deerhoof - Fresh Born - Juan's Basement OR Greg from Deerhoof playing Milk Man
thanks for being my favorite drum react channel! you remind me of my drum teacher of nine years who studied at william paterson's jazz program!
Thank you so much!
The first time I saw them live was Mike on the drums. Nice video!
Ray's a beast. Silveria is great to. Ray polished this up. Dude's a showman.
Like number 1,000 here!!! :)
Mr bungle was a korn inspiration per head.
Ray has style has changed a lot since he first joined the band, he finally has the groove that Korn needs. When he first joined he played more like a stock heavy metal drummer.
I hope thats the case with their new stuff coming up cause that shit he was doing before was trash. It felt like we went back to the heavily overproduced albums like Untouchables etc. That was a great melodic era but fuckin had terrible grooves like damn....
Kevin Talley is one of the best drummers in the world. He plays for a band called Daath.
Would be nice to see you react to him, he has speed and efficiency to his rhythm
Please do a John Stanier vidja. That dude was SOOOO influential in the 90s and beyond.
Tune in next week actually
People who comment on freak on a leash always stop the song right before one of the best breakdowns in heavy music. Makes me crazy. How can you pause it right there? its like there not even listening.
I don’t care what anyone says... Ray is an awesome dude and he fucking slays
Totally agree about Korn being groundbreaking! And they never stopped. Most bands who created a new genre would just rest on their laurels and grow stale, but instead Korn went on to be one of the first bands to incorporate dubstep into metal as well.
And the hip hop vibe in some Korn songs are usually JD beatboxing and he's actually pretty damn good at it too
Didn’t Faith No More do that style (
Rap with Metal/Punk) in 1986..”We Care A lot”?
Indeed. But it wasn't nearly the hit Epic was.
Junkdrummer TV True, it was a big rock radio single of its day but it didn’t have the MTV “fish dying image”.
Hey guy! Shut TFU and get to the music!! J/k! J/k! I think you’re awesome, I hate reaction videos, but you are an educated drummer, and I really respect what you have to say. You’re a beast my man!
I LOVED Korn when they first hit the scene!! The Jonathan Davis meltdowns were amazing although when they tried their hand at the whole DUB step thing like Skrillex I was like come on Johnathan stick to your thing!
Please do yourself a favor and shut the fuck up... And Shave that gay fucking mustache
Would like to see you play drums. Every pro critic should show his or her talents.
"Hi everyone, I'm Conor McGregor..."
I wish
lolol
I FUCKIN LOVE KORN!!
It's cool to see someone give David Silveria the respect he deserves. I've always loved his style, but I've never had a drummer that liked him as much. Maybe they were hating because they couldnt play it. Ray Luzier is GREAT and technically better. Buy David is OG. Also, Limp Bizkit was an incredible group of musicians. They just caught a bad rap because of Fred Durst, but Durst sold records, those guys knew what they were doing. EVERYBODY owned a red, fitted Yankees cap in the late 00's
