If you want to check out some true genesis of combining rap and metal, check out "Bring the Noise" by Anthrax and Public Enemy from the early '90s. It was originally a PE song, but the two later collaborated to cover it. Anthrax did their own rap song, "I'm the Man" a few years earlier that was good as well but more Beastie Boys style. Instrumentally, though, Bring the Noise might have been the first proper mash-up of the two genres.

Crazily enough the rooftop scene was shot on top of the World Trade Center and Fred Durst (Red Cap) received a letter from WTC representatives thanking Limp Bizkit for the video feature after the video for Rollin’ won an MTV Video Music Award. The day before 9/11.

Yes, Fred Durst's shenanigans used to be hella annoying, but to this day very few bands can bounce a crowd like the Bizkit.

The name for this type of music, and the type of music that was VERY popular, exploding onto the scene in the late 90s early 2000s was called NU Metal. It was a mix of Rock/Metal/Rap and honestly is still popular now despite people memeing on it.

It was 1999, and Limp Bizkit came on stage for the 30 year anniversary and second ever Woodstock music festival. They were charging ridiculous prices for water It was over 5 bucks. which would be like 10 today. So people just drank more beer. And then LimpBizkit (allegedly) started a riot. That place burnt to the ground. There are documentaries on it.

Here's some context for you..... Matthews Bridge.... Jacksonville, Fl. has TONS of bridges. Matthews connects Downtown Jax to Arlington. That's where LB was kind of based out of, the Arlington Area. "All the ladies in the Cave, get your groove on".... the Cave was the Grotto at the Playboy Mansion(a bar you access by swimming under the waterfall at the pool. Legend has it some serious shit went down in there many many a time). They had the Chocolate Starfish and HotDog Flavored Water album release party at the Playboy Mansion live on MTV. That was a spectacle in itself. That's how big they were back in 98-04. Not many bands had an album release party at the Playboy Mansion. Shit was DOPE!! Fred and Hugh Heffner were tight. Hate saying this but they were the Taylor Swift of the late 90's early 2000's, but played much much better music!!!

Nu-Metal is truly timeless because of the hip-hop and metal influences to it. There is nothing that will change. The years of rock in the early 80's into the mid 90's smashed head on into the massive love for new age hip hop that everyone loved with the very catchy. Its a honest test of time. It hurts to still know Limp Bizkit is one of the most hated/loved of the generation. Personally born in 92'. They were the first band I truly listened to EVERY day. Fred Durst is a legend. Wes Borland (Guitarist), Sam Rivers(Bassist) John Otto(Drumer) and DJ Leathal are the true OGs next to KoRn, Orgy, and a few others were the best bands of the late 90's into the mid 2000's.

If I remember right, all of these songs were 1999 or 2000. They released a full album both years.
Yeah, DJs used to actually spin disks. The term Disc Jockey was used for radio personalities from way back, like the 50s. Hip-hop groups used DJ to differentiate from the vocalists who used MC. As in Master of Ceremonies or emcee.
