i love the music! and this is not a critique of this or any specific creator, but it's just a little disheartening that riot grrrl- a punk and political movement- gets reduced to vibes and aesthetics. which once again im not hating on the creator or saying they dont recognize what it riot grrrl really means- i have no place to say. just saying riot grrrl, queercore, and punk in general are forms of resistance and thats so often forgotten. plus, you can listen to whatever music you want! im in no way gatekeeping anything just sharing my thoughts!
I totally get it I originally created the playlist to be like angry girl music and a lot of it was riot grrrl so I put it in the title but i agree I hate when any sort of subculture that has a lot of history and stuff behind it gets watered down to just being an “aesthetic” but also its good to acknowledge that a lot of the history behind riot grrrl movement wasn’t the best either as it excluded a lot of women of color and trans women which really sucks but yeah I totally agree with you and I love riot grrrl music Im actually going to be seeing bikini kill this year!
@@RayTheRat97 i agree! i dont think theres anything wrong with liking the "aesthetics" as long as the revolutionary cores of punk are acknowledged. it's also undeniable that every subculture and movement will be problematic in ways, especially at that time. i love to talk about the truth and intersectionality of those movements, the best thing about it is that its always evolving. I love to see queer and women of color breaking into the scene. i hope you have so much fun at bikini kill oh my god!!!
Everything punk eventually becomes commodified-nothing more than a "vibe". Even your "political movements". Resistance needs something to act against. Kind of hard when you're the mainstream. We live in an era where having strong family values and believing in hard work and personal responsibility is the counter culture, and you're not.
