millgiass I think there's a message there about that he's disconnected from the world. Like you can see he's disconnected from the ground. It's not a power, it's the opposite
I love the comments everyone is posting but will no one talk about the aesthetic and how close it is to peanuts while keeping itself creative and new? I love it so much this needs to be made into some new show!!
It's interesting that when he admits that he makes people feel uncomfortable, she tries to comfort him by saying "no you're doing good". He knows he's doing poorly, and she knows too, this advice isn't going to help. Her exasperated rant at the end is far better advice for him, and you can tell he appreciates it. This is why I prefer to give people helpful advice, rather than comforting them when it wouldn't help.
Kaiwala I’ve been told that sometimes its better to give advice, and other times it’s better to comfort people. My first move is usually to go for the former
It’s interesting how the ground for him symbolizes being able to talk to people, so he’s always floating or sticking to the wall. After he talks to someone who’s been where he is now, he’s able to touch the ground a little. I love this.
I also took it as a visual metaphor that he was able to “ground” himself to reality. The moment he feels he can take the first steps towards connecting with people. That even when he makes mistakes he knows there Are still people around him that care about him and want to be there for him
I never met anyone who truly cared for me and I can trust and expect support if I need it. Soon this chapter will end and the new one will begin, hopefully totally opposite to finishing one. Ever optimistic me )
@@wyattthetitan There was this one time someone tried to hug me but as they closed in, I kept backing away. This however kept going until I phased through a wall just to back away further.
ok but it totally feels like a pretty good metaphor for how it feels sometimes -- like everyone else is working within these social "laws of gravity" that somehow... aren't working on you? So you just kinda accidentaly bonk into people and make a mess of randomly because you just... don't know how this works, don't know how to maneuver at all -- don't even know the rules of maneuvering. It's odd.
Yeah ngl externalizing anxiety is really gonna affect those around you including yourself, you're not the only one to be pitied and all when saying those "Oh I can't interact anymore hhh I'm so dumb" stuff, it really makes people uneasy, I only realized this recently too, it's not always about you, it's about the people around you too
@@kitsickles I kinda disagree with what you have to say. Like yeah that makes people uneasy, but he was talking to the girl. She directly asked hom what he felt was wrong and he decided to share how he felt about him self during social interaction. When the question what is wrong is directed towards you then they aren't trying to know about someone else it is about you at that moment. She said she was going through the same thing. Like no offense you could have anxiety too,but it just doesn't work like that. Personally I have anxiety and if someone told me oh "you are doing this to yourself" .I'd be like how could you ask me what's wrong then judge me which is why in the first place I was scared to answer you when you asked if I was ok. Instead I think it would be better to say" I'll help you then slowly let you go on your own,so you won't be stuck". Also saying "It isn't always about you seems unhelpful just in my opinion". Like dude I mean that is why some people are scared to seek help. Also I'm pretty sure they know they aren't the only one,but that doesn't make them inconsiderate. People need to get help to understand themselves and how they may actaully be impacting others. I mean honestly it seems just like he doesn't want to make others uncomfortable so he just distances himself so the problem just goes away. He didn't purposely go out of his way to actaully make people uncomfortable more like he went out of his way to make sure he couldn't be around others so they wouldn't be uncomfortable.
@@swepsdakittie7792 oh yeah true ofc! there are people that will help and be there to listen, but sometimes people with these problems will rely on the wrong crowd. like sometimes I'd see classmates or friends who vent to people that aren't ready or aren't capable of helping someone with these problems. I also have the same deal and all, but I know that some people aren't comfy or aren't in the right head space to help sometimes, people should also be aware about who they're venting to. the girl in the film had no problem with helping or with talking to him about stuff, she was willing to talk about it with him, and THAT is the time when you could vent and all, if someone will openly allow and be there for you

So, to fix it, I just talk less, and then everyone's ignoring me and I feel like I don't even exist. So, to fix that ^ I go up to people and try to talk to them, but then end up not knowing what to say and creating that awkward silence that _everyone_ hates. So, to fix this ^ I just stay silent until someone talks to me, ending up with fake friends, users, and once even with a sexual & physical abuser. So, to fix everything, _(Kind of)_ I just don't talk at all, ending up being that person that's just going through life alone and depressed not knowing how to just be _normal._ So, to fix that ^ Rinse and repeat, literally an endless cycle.

@@dreamingblue3939 Listen to me. It's ok to be as confused as you are about human relationships. It's complicated, psychologists have a subject that's called "Human Relationships" in college where they essentially learn to read people and how to talk to them. I mean it takes practice and time to forge a relationship with another person, and if you want to advance, if you want to move on and leave this behind you're going to have to put the courage and the effort to try to understand and be around people. There are plenty of articles on how to start talking with people, the fundamentals of what a friend is and what it's for, the types of friends, the red flags and risks and there are also tons articles on overcoming social anxiety. Why? Because a ton of people go through that in their lives, a ton of people feel like they are quirky and embarrassing when it's really a paranoia they themselves made up. It's not something you can't get through, I see it more as an initiation test, or something that will make you grow as an individual. (Also, ask for help if you need it to a counsellor or a person whose advice will help. You wouldn't believe how easy it is to get what you want when you are direct and clear. ) All in all, it is your choice and only yours. Good luck, and I believe in you.
zeldajerk lol I know unexpected, rite. I know I'm not alone, I just never thought I'd be able to visually show people how social anxiety feels. I act like the girl, but I still feel like the guy on the inside
I've watched this 5 times now, and am still wrapping my head around what the hell is with the levitation animations, but am also like "It's such a good short!!!"
I interpreted it as his feeling of loss of control, and that no matter his intentions and efforts, he ends up making a fool of himself (or upsetting/annoying other people). Even while trying to hide his anxiety so that it doesn't become anyone else's problem, it kinda takes on a life of it's own. Ultimately it seems to be a sense of lacking control over the whole "you're gonna mess this up!" idea, and how it takes on a life of it's own? I dunno. It somehow works.
i think the guy and girl are personifications of anxiety. the girl is bargaining ("you're doing good, you're getting outside... i don't understand you.") and the guy is self-awareness ("i'm a bad friend. i just make people uncomfortable.") in the end they're at peace with each other.
I like how this doesn't get chosen for show over bread winners EDIT: It never ever had a chance from nick. Bread winners was taking off by it's internet pilot, which i'm complaining why talent like this can't be recognized over flash animations about green ducks.
People think the red girl doesn't exist, but she does. A lot of us have met this person, maybe multiple people. We just don't know it until they're gone. Every person who asks if you're okay or tries to talk to you when you're feeling awkward at a party could be the red girl. You won't know until you open up to people.
I remember one such "red girl". I was in high school, and in the middle of class one day, reading a book by myself. This was the one class that I knew maybe one person in the whole room, and he sat on the other side of it. All of the sudden, this random girl walked up to me and asked me what I was reading. She honestly seemed interested, but me being the anti-social and awkward guy that I can often be, answered her questions as simply and shortly as possible, so that I could get back to reading my book. Eventually, she walked away. I never talked to her again, and I regret it to this day. For me, that was the ultimate "what could have been".
Its okay. You can always correct mistakes and help everyone to learn from them, but you dont have to be rude about it. English is not everyones mother language.
「SMILE DIP」 and sometimes you just want to put a box over your head and a sticker will be stick to the box says "I'm a anti social person...so don't talk to me"
「SMILE DIP」 ME TOO. I absolutely hate going to parties and social events. I'd rather stay home and read a book. It's so hard to be the one friend in my friend group that never wants to do anything. I'm not anti-social, I'm just introverted, but people don't get it.
if he can fly like that he definitely has potential for the NBA. could even be in the goat debate in a couple years if he keeps up his training. super high potential.
As someone who is incredibly antisocial and introverted, I often come off as cold or rude at social events, even though I don't mean too. This video really speaks to me, and I always get the same warm feeling every time I see the guy finally make it to the ground. It gives me hope that one day I might find someone like the red-haired girl that will help me anchor myself.
I know it's been 4 months, but there is *huge* difference between asocial and antisocial.. might wanna check it up before messing up in a real conversation with someone who knows the difference :D
I can relate. Its difficult being an asocial introvert. I just care so little about social interaction but you have to interact with people. Its part of life. Being asocial has hurt me professional and personally. My wife asks why I don't have many friends and to be honest I don't know. I made one friend but I lost his number. Being married has forced me to be more social and has made me realize that not every person is a dick. I think it's a step forward.
I know right?! I’m a very introverted person myself and after I first saw this video, I couldn’t get it out of my head for two whole days. And I really admire how the woman went out of her way to comfort this man who’s a complete stranger. It really warmed my heart.
That's not the point of the video. The point is that the red-haired girl is exhausted from trying to take care of this guy all the time. He needs to get his shit together and anchor himself rather than relying on her, because she's exhausted from trying to comfort him.
Sensory overload doesn't really tell you much though. Is it due to autism? Or social anxiety? Other kinds of anxieties? And what is it that triggers the stress? Sounds and smells? People looking at you? Thoughts and emotions? There can be a lot of reasons why someone experiences stress. But I agree, it's hard to understand to an outsider.
I think what it means is, him floating around is him being awkward and distancing himself because he cant just be normal and when people try to help him he unintentionally falls over and hurts them (basically meaning they try to help him but he hurts them because he accidentally rejects the help).and when the girl teaches him to properly make friends he uses his awkward floaty power to shelter her and moves back to the floor (meaning he is in control of himself and the way he acts now)
Interesting, his lack of social grace manifests and also represents his ability to fly. And the more secure he becomes while flying the closer he is to the ground. The girl like an anchor to him and keeping him from going too high. And eventually he realizes that he isn't as bad as he thinks he is, not perfect but on the same level as everyone else, and so he forces himself to the ground by swimming a little closer.
That “floater” def is me and hits too close to home, and it definitely does not help with my social anxiety causing me stutter and pause like I’ve just met this person even tho I’ve known them for years. Bc of my drawing talents everyone knows of me but not really me. Which is fine ofc, bc not everyone needs to know me or be friend vise versa, but if I’m getting called “a friend” and being invited to places they should at least acknowledge my existence instead of ditching me. Rant over(:
I actually met a girl with red hair at a party one time. Wasn’t really talking to anyone til I started to drink, I don’t remember what I said to her, but when I went to go sit alone she followed me and I just gave her my life story. She was just there, listening, kicking her legs, she was so pretty, she was their til 2 in the morning just like me and when she left, I told her “it was nice talking to you.” Keep in mind I’ve never seen this video before. But to make a long story sad, we went on a date but things just didn’t click like they did at the party, she left in an hour and after that she ghosted me. Living with it.
Hey, sorry for what happened to you. It's always good to meet new people and talk to them. Even if it's just about personal stuff. I hope you see this is a positive experience and keep trying, even though this one didn't turn out as you hoped. Take care :)
Eh, it just to hide the fact that we all feel the same yet don't want to face our feelings because we're terrified of them........ He is in creative mode tho
This resonated with me a lot. I'm this friend in my friend group, and it's hard to talk to people, even if they're close to you. It's like you have the words ready to go in mind, but something else comes out of your mouth instead
10 years on and i still have this song stuck to my head.. Again.. loving this video!! Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy... still trying to find the song!!!!
Sadly this is kinda true about social anxiety. At some point you have to realize that isolation and withdrawal is not making anything better. Reassuring yourself that your friends don't hate you, that people aren't going to harm you or mistreat you, it's mostly all inside your head. You have to start practicing self care and doing things that will improve your happiness.
This is why we need more people to come into therapy, no you aren't damaged but you do need a healthy outlet for what you feel instead of acting like someone doesn't care about you and reacting negatively that ends up hurting them. It's all self-care, people owe it to themselves to do it! It's sad that it might be financially difficult for some to do so though. :( *You used in general, not specifically yourself.
@@luvuchocolate I completely agree. I think that everyone needs therapy and that doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong with anyone but not all of us deal with our emotions or issues in a positive healthy way and everyone experiences some form of anxiety (though there is a difference between general and a disorder, just like anything)
Until you realize that the majority of people are going to harm you for their own ends because it is human nature to only care about yourself above others
What are you supposed to think if your friends actually do dislike you? I'm constantly being told about how much bad stuff the people I used to be friends with keep saying about me, and somebody directly told me that being around me makes them unhappy. This only happens at school, but it's affecting my life outside of school too.
The first time I saw this video, it really melted my heart. I even paid a visit to my mom’s psychiatrist and I felt embarrassed telling him about how a cartoon on RUclips somehow got to me. But then he told me there’s nothing wrong with that and we started talking about masculinity and how it’s okay for men to express their feelings. And now I like being a sensitive man.
To clarify, this is not an "anxiety" disorder. This is a "panic" disorder. Anxiousness is more or less normal. Its perfectly reasonable to be apprehensive around people you aren't comfortable with. Panic disorder is when you feel perfectly willing to do something, but you have extreme, extreme sensations and emotions you absolutely cannot ignore that force strange behaviors that attempt to alleviate the symptoms. Confusion, loss of vision, chest pains, shortness of breath, profuse sweating, tingling like a fallen asleep limb in your arms, legs, face and head. The distinction is very , very important when attempting to treat or at least cope. You're doing yourself NO favors if you describe your sensations as "anxiety" to a healthcare professional. Anxiety is normal. The severe central nervous system distress of a panic disorder is treated completely differently. If your "anxiety" persists after treatment, this could be why.
Hi, you seem overly analytical, kinda like me. Analytical people (and people with higher measured iq) generally tend to be more anxious than others. But I want to tell you that anxiety and panic have a lot in common. Panic is what happens when anxiety escalates to uncontrollable behavior driven by anxiety (stress from fear). We all have this by our nature and a low to moderate amount of anxiety is normal (and crucial for survival). But when your fear of something is too much, it will affect your quality of life and successes. The way you describe panic is actually anxiety. But I understand that if you tell a Healthcare professional that you have anxiety, that it may not be enough for them to take you as seriously as you want them to. Because as I said, anxiety comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes. It really helps to tell them that you cannot do the things that you want to because of anxiety. Like socialize, succeed in work/college.
Also in my experience help from therapy is a great tool to discover what causes your anxieties, but often is not enough to get over it. You need to be exposed to your fears, to tell your body that your anxiety is not justified. For example: if you have social anxiety, you have to keep socializing with people and find that there are things you like about it. Then eventually your anxiety will drop to normal levels. Hope this helps, take care :)

It seems like he’s the type of person that externalizes his anxiety, and she seems like the type of person to internalize it.

My level of being optimistic
It’s interesting how the ground for him symbolizes being able to talk to people, so he’s always floating or sticking to the wall. After he talks to someone who’s been where he is now, he’s able to touch the ground a little. I love this.
I also took it as a visual metaphor that he was able to “ground” himself to reality. The moment he feels he can take the first steps towards connecting with people. That even when he makes mistakes he knows there Are still people around him that care about him and want to be there for him
That's what I got out of it. He made a connection and was able to grip some ground.

“you go out of your way to make people uncomfortable” owch

It’s kinda true, though :/

So, to fix everything, _(Kind of)_ I just don't talk at all, ending up being that person that's just going through life alone and depressed not knowing how to just be _normal._
So, to fix that ^ Rinse and repeat, literally an endless cycle.
hey, stop being dumb! do what you want and you will attract like minded individuals wherever they may be. do not adapt to the people around you because their preferences will mold you into a person you do not want to be, so rather let your self mold your surrounding peers
I have never related to anything so damn much. I'm going through the exact same thing right now. I've gone through a cycle of it through the years, and now I'm back in stage "not talking to anybody and feeling like I don't exist". I think it's to do with how social anxiety causes you to feel like everyone else is getting something that you just can't quite figure out, he's disconnected from people because he can't see the struggles and insecurities that they hide and as a result it feels as though he's living his own isolated reality.
“I don’t know how to engage with people anymore..” :(
That's the worst because when you try to learn again you screw up 90% of the time and isolate yourself further.
This is where I am. I honestly don't know anything about how to interact with my peers. I don't know what a friend is or how to make one, or how to maintain a friendship. And I'm too scared to try to bumble around and figure it out myself- like I'd make it worse. It sucks. :/

You wouldn't believe how easy it is to get what you want when you are direct and clear. )
All in all, it is your choice and only yours. Good luck, and I believe in you.

People think the red girl doesn't exist, but she does. A lot of us have met this person, maybe multiple people. We just don't know it until they're gone. Every person who asks if you're okay or tries to talk to you when you're feeling awkward at a party could be the red girl. You won't know until you open up to people.
They mean that the literal red girl doesn't exist.
You should see my mother after a day at the beach. The "red girl" does exist.
For me, that was the ultimate "what could have been".
you're not anti-social dumbass you're asocial jesus christ i hate when people can't educate themselves on their own selves
Its okay. You can always correct mistakes and help everyone to learn from them, but you dont have to be rude about it. English is not everyones mother language.

「SMILE DIP」 ME TOO. I absolutely hate going to parties and social events. I'd rather stay home and read a book. It's so hard to be the one friend in my friend group that never wants to do anything. I'm not anti-social, I'm just introverted, but people don't get it.

Matthmarticus I can relate
And she never talked to him again.

Sensory overload. Those who don't have it can't easily understand it.
That's why we have things called analogies.
I actually feel some sort of emotion while watching this, and its not confusion, but i cant explain it
that special interest you feel when you see something you can't 100% understand but you like anyway and that makes you feel good about yourself?
Destanie it feels kinda nostalgic towards the end
You're feeling sympathetic because you can relate to what the person is going through. Well anyone who's watched this can relate I suppose.
I think what it means is, him floating around is him being awkward and distancing himself because he cant just be normal and when people try to help him he unintentionally falls over and hurts them (basically meaning they try to help him but he hurts them because he accidentally rejects the help).and when the girl teaches him to properly make friends he uses his awkward floaty power to shelter her and moves back to the floor (meaning he is in control of himself and the way he acts now)
@Marc Dumont the only german word i know for weird expressions is schadenfreude. But im pretty sure this is not that.

Holy shit, it's his stand.
You could say that he was a little more down to earth by the end of it
Thanks for clearing this video up!
CoLeMaWeSoMe You should be a narrator.

This has a really cute art style
Animation: really touching story about a guy with social anxiety
Comments: LOL THIS DUDE ON CREATIVE MODE 😂😂🤣😭🛫✈️✈️✈️😂😂😂😆

I mean, what did you expect?
Everyone is trying to laugh or smile die to the recent 2020 events.
CGI Guinea Pig I commented before the pandemic
Eh, it just to hide the fact that we all feel the same yet don't want to face our feelings because we're terrified of them........ He is in creative mode tho
My fav part is still 1:45 where he full on flip-kicks the guy's girlfriend for no reason, Guile style.

Guy: Go home and become a family man.
Lady: Ah my face.
His frame data sucks though, I could've easily parried that
This resonated with me a lot. I'm this friend in my friend group, and it's hard to talk to people, even if they're close to you. It's like you have the words ready to go in mind, but something else comes out of your mouth instead
0:47 THAT hit me hard
;(
John Donrick Zerna that’s happened to me so many times
Same, it's so rude :/ but who needs those people right?

Sadly this is kinda true about social anxiety. At some point you have to realize that isolation and withdrawal is not making anything better. Reassuring yourself that your friends don't hate you, that people aren't going to harm you or mistreat you, it's mostly all inside your head. You have to start practicing self care and doing things that will improve your happiness.
well said, gotta stand up somehow
This is why we need more people to come into therapy, no you aren't damaged but you do need a healthy outlet for what you feel instead of acting like someone doesn't care about you and reacting negatively that ends up hurting them. It's all self-care, people owe it to themselves to do it! It's sad that it might be financially difficult for some to do so though. :(
*You used in general, not specifically yourself.
PEOPLE FLY LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME!!!!
Definitely!
Lenomon wait so it's not wired to float everywhere like that? thank God! I thought I was weird!
I could kinda relate after a night of drinking :P.
it feels like I am flying, i live in the Netherlands to make things clear.
he's just really high
mike loomans funny I don't remember seeing you. 🤔
Well, congratulations, dude.
That's beautiful
That's pretty gay
@@timk7656 No it's not. ;/
That’s so cute,, you learned an important lesson
I aint reading allat but we up💯😭
Hi, you seem overly analytical, kinda like me.
