Thinking Basketball is the best. Each episode has insane replayability too. One of my favorites is their episode on luck. They talk about it as a thing in and of itself but also discuss how it can be a quantifiable and somewhat observable statistic, it's fricken great stuff and absolute word candy.
Jumping to pass is only a bad idea if you don’t know where you’re going with ball. Tyrese is very aware of where players are on the court so he makes very few mistakes while doing so.
LOVE THIS BREAKDOWN! One of the flashiest, funnest players in the league right now, so much potential! I hope he manages to find even greater heights than our former Point God... his scoring and charisma feel even better than CP3's at times--hope he gets the longevity and luck needed to succeed 💯
This video showed his strengths but really exposed his weakness. He's really vulnerable to blitzing which is what the Lakers did during the in season tournament.
He's next level at reading the defense. It'd be a great interview to ask him about it and how much is instinct and how much is training and congnizant decision making.
@Forever_Laura same as every kid in the gym shooting super deep 3's because they like Steph Curry. Or shooting fadeaway midrange shots while saying "Kobe." It's flashy and flashy will always be imitated
God I love this. I was taught so hard not to jump on my passes when I was young. But it was my style, for the reasons stated in this video, and I wasn't turning the ball over. Still, I listened to coach and didn't get back to jump passing until adulthood.
It gives him a great advantage when he jumps it increases his field of vision and it helps especially with the double team and he uses it for pick and roll ! Idk who taught him this or where he got it from but it's deadly !
I think an underrated thing to note is his vertical/hangtime. The reason jump passes are coached out of players is because 99% of them simply don’t have a 36+ inch very like he does
incredible breakdown. i've been watching Tyrese just balling everynight without looking tired. I knew the dude had elite playmaking skills and vision, but his technique is next level
@@nodnarB14 that's only cause they run almost every damn play through Nikola designed by they coaching staff. Hali is just a straight up Natural off his own volition. You tweakin.
Great content. Caitlin Cooper has a great paid blog worth checking out for Pacers and Ty content. She also Has a shirt in her merch that says “Jump Passes Are Good Now” to honor this awareness of how Ty uses them. He wore one at some pressers 🎉
usually jump passes are a bad idea. You get stuck in the air and can't make your mind up and you turn it over. Haliburton is making high level split second decisions so it enhances his passing game.
very nice analysis! i wonder how he compares to other elite pass-first guards, like Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul, who seem to be becoming more of a rarity in today's game
Im a Mav fan and I think you could argue that he’s the best in the league. Because both Luka and Jokic (more so Luka) are also S tier iso players. Luka gets doubled more than anyone in the league, so he creates assist opportunities for himself. (His passes are still mind blowing I’m not hating on my team’s superstar. Luka being able to pass out of doubles is partially what makes him so special) but the fact that Hali is generating these assists without being doubled as much or without being as much of a scoring threat is mind boggling. It’s truly incredible.
@@JonathanWoodall yea I can agree to an extent, but you could make the same argument for Luka and Jokic in the beginning of their career before they were really the focal point of the opposing teams defensive strategy
@@smatte-loup You could but Luka's career high is 20 in 2021 and Jokic is 18 in 2020 so not exactly the start of their career. Hali just had consecutive 20 assist games with a high of 23. I still think Luka can make the larger bag of difficult passes but by the time he could put up those numbers, he was already putting up 30 a game
@@JonathanWoodall I think what makes Halliburton so special is his ability to create for his teammates without turning the ball over, but I think Luka and Jokic gets the nod when it comes to manipulating the defense. But to be fair Tyrese still has time to add more of these things to his game
@@smatte-loup yeah I’m not disagreeing. Im just saying I think that comes from them being scoring threats or just being able to get deep into the defense. Either way I think we agree on who the better players are, I think we just define what makes a better passer a little differently.
NBA definitely needs to continue to put people like Ben on the main front. So casuals can actually learn the game and not just the basic debates we see on ESPN regularly.
Its not even all that , he just has a better understanding of Time and Space than the Avg guy and his Understanding of it is rlly high , how high we ll see rlly soon. really interesting to watch such a intelligent Player

ahh thinking basketball - the internet's greatest basketball autist / artiste. I never knew you could explain basketball in so many different eloquent terms.
Do you think Hali averages the most jumps per game in the NBA. He might jump 3-5 times in a possession. No other guards do that, cant imagine forwards jumping more than say twice a possession on average at most, but maybe the centers who end and start half of possessions by jumping for rebounds. Hmmmm
The jump pass is for pros and a bad maneuver for most young players . Why? Because should players be covered it's a walk a deflections steal. Now is this new ? No Rick Barry for one used it extensively but he generally showed shot first elevating for a look at the goal but if finding a teammate with a shorter shot it became a pass . Think Jamal Wilkes as a target or cliff ray. Hali is a low turnover guy . With great vision . But nothing succeeds like success as they say so for HIM ITS NOT A BAD PLAY . BUDDY HIELD NOT SO MUCH.
Awesome to see thinking basketball getting recognition from the league and being elevated to a bigger stage!
Facts . Just awesome . Objetive analysis
They are the best basketball analysis. Though I love more thinking basketball😅
He’s done a few videos for the NBA now. He done one during Jokers first MVP season.
I had to really be sure that it was him.
Cracking bloke
He's like a great QB on a basketball court. He releases the ball just prior to the sack when the defense has committed.
lil mahomie
Back to back 20/20 games is historical

43 assists and only 2 TO's over the last 2 games is beyond crazy.
that is madness!
He's had several with ZERO turnovers

TB is amazing @NBA I wanna see y'all using more of his insights in 2024!
Goated series!
Love when Ben Taylor gets recognition for his basketball analysis
Y'all need to link him in the description or a pinned comment so people can find him easily thanks to the shout out.
Caitlin Cooper wrote about this about a year ago so give her a shout out if you can. One of the most talented basketball writers out there.
He's next level at reading the defense. It'd be a great interview to ask him about it and how much is instinct and how much is training and congnizant decision making.
This guy deserves to go to the Olympics. He is so talented. Goooo Tyrese 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
Old skoolers remember coaches yelling at players for passing while in the air.
Today jump passes are lethal.
Ah great now every kid in the gym is going to be jump passing when they have zero business doing so .

Incredible breakdown as always. TB is the only analyst that dissects a topic that anyone has never thought of.
i think hali is having a mvp westbrook type of leap. putting up inhuman numbers that people start to analyse clips to accuse him of statpadding
This is beautiful
Man, more collab with Thinking Basketball, pls! Make it regular
hell no
His jumping to project to ball reminds of Andrew Bynum, when he would bring the ball up really high inside the paint to protect it
One of my favorites and go to as 6’5 ball fanatic
Hali is not even an allstar or a top In MVP voting in the last season, but he dropped superstar level of stats 😮
Tyrese is Xerath. Almost no one on one ability but an absolute assassin at range. They’ll need more rim pressure in the playoffs though.
It gives him a great advantage when he jumps it increases his field of vision and it helps especially with the double team and he uses it for pick and roll ! Idk who taught him this or where he got it from but it's deadly !
Keep these coming!!!

This was just fn' brilliant
I think I can say he made a leap this season
There are two times your avg player can jump pass. During a shot that switches to a pass, and during dubble teams, especially help at the rim
Tyrese Haliburton NEW POINT GUARD this generation 💯
Insane talent. Kid is a franchise player.
when do we finally get Ben color casting a game on NBA TV?
Haliburton could be the best playmaker in NBA history
Alright chill out now

🎉 Happy new year. Hoping NBA shares more thinking basketball in 2024. What a great breakdown.
His the perfect pg to wemby/giannis
That’s super interesting. The jump screams to the defense “IM PASSING” while not having to commit to the pass until he’s about to hit the ground.
By jumping on the pass he sort of almost transforms himself into 6’11 Jokic 🤔
His playmaking is brilliant. Very fun to watch him dish it off.
Highest offensive IQ in the league right now
Stop, get some help
Jokic is but Hali is near, can read defense as well.
Huge Pacer fan here, but stop. It's still Jokic by a large margin. But Hali is closing in.
