    They definitely made smart design choices. They didn’t just slap ideas on. I like that you can go from pc to legion space with a button. The steam deck having to reboot every time is kind of annoying and I wish it was that quick at diving in or jumping out just to transfer files or use pc functions. I’m sure there are ways to do this on the deck but I would prefer an idiot proof method.

    • @link1565V2
      @link1565V2 9 месяцев назад +16

      The steam deck way is arguably better, as there is no extra crap running in the background when in gaming mode, whereas these windows handhelds have to deal with an entire Windows installation running in the background along with the added bloat of the launchers.
      I'm not really a Linux fanboy. Quite frankly I hate Linux from a desktop point of view and I was deeply sceptical of the steamdeck and it's Linux OS when I first got it. But now I have it, I really think it's the most seamless experience a handheld PC can have.
      I have Windows 11 also installed as dual boot on the deck but I almost never boot into it.

    I love that the touchpad on the right side. Valve has been trying to popularise them for so long and I think they are a great idea and they really should have been much more widely adopted by controller manufacturers and and consoles IMO. The touchpad plus the detachable controller/Mouse makes this device more capable of being a dedicated Computer IMO. I cant see myself using a Rog Ally or Aya Neo kinda device as an all in one PC replacement, this I probably can make work as a such a device. Regarding NO VRR,
    The fact that having a fixed refresh rate at 144Hz isn't nearly as bad as a fixed refresh rate at 60Hz.
    On a 60Hz (16.6ms) panel, if the frametime misses the 60FPS / 16.6ms window then it'll show the next frame at 30FPS / 33.3ms (2x 60Hz refreshes), and if it misses the 30FPS then it'll only show the next frame at 20FPS (3x 60Hz refreshes.
    So the frametime / vsynced refresh rate looks like this:
    If frame time >60FPS, it shows at 60FPS
    If frame time >30FPS and 20FPS, and 144Hz, it shows at 144FPS
    If frame time >72FPS and 48FPS and 36FPS and 28.8FPS and 24FPS and 20.6FPS and 2x base refresh rate we're getting >2x the number of refresh rate "steps". While everyone will notice a sudden drop from 60FPS to 30FPS (very visible stuttering) or from 30 to 20, it should be more difficult to notice the difference between 48FPS and 36FPS, or between 36FPS and 28.8FPS.
    Of course, VRR is the gold standard here, but not having it on a 144Hz panel isn't nearly as bad as not having it with a 60Hz panel.
    And if by any chance we find a way to overclock the panel, these intervals will get even shorter.
    Also, Vsync is always available to save day just like on the Steam Deck.

A year is probably about what they are likely to do update-wise before moving on to a newer model but then again you can't upgrade components so the software will keep working for as long as you have the device. Is there not a cover to protect those pins? Sweat, grime, dust, etc can potentially due a number on those in the wrong hands. Maybe the etsy marketplace or online 3d prints can solve for a quick fix. But i would've expected Lenovo to add simple cover along with the round magnetic connector themselves....

However; I find that I often have to clean off those contacts or they won't charge, especially the left side for some reason. They don't look dirty; but, they are. I have good hygiene too. I expect these will get gunked up in short order if you don't make a point to wash your hands before gaming.
      My Buds put the flat pad part on the buds and put the pin part in the case. Lenovo seems to have done the opposite for some reason. These pins look shorter and fatter so they'll probably be fine; but, still I kind of worry about bending one of these. I guess the Switch Joy-Con style rail is still patented...

      This would be financial suicide for Nintendo.
      For example, the Switch has sold over 100 million units.
      The Steam Deck, which is easily the most popular of these portable PCs has sold 3 million. ROG Ally sales estimates have them at barely half a million units sold.
      Based on that estimate, the Ally hasn't even beaten the Virtual Boy in sales.

    • @link1565V2
      @link1565V2 9 месяцев назад

      My point is that the vast majority of people who buy Nintendo consoles just don't care about the tech specs.
      If they go larger, they alienate the younger audience who will be unable to hold the thing, and they alienate the parents who pay for them due to higher prices caused by the beefier components.
      Nintendo have not focused on raw processing power since the GameCube, and aside from the Wii U, which was a good but very poorly marketed console, everything they have released has been a phenomenonal success.
      In the generations where pure performance was a priority AND they had significant competition, such as the GameCube generation, they failed miserably.
      When you look at the results of any console generation it's rarely the most powerful console that is the most popular.
      Obviously whatever Nintendo's next console is, it's going to be more powerful than the current gen Switch. But don't expect some huge increase.
      All the people demanding a "Switch Pro" or some beefed up Steam Deck-alike just don't really understand Nintendo or their ideology.

    If this had 32gb of RAM, I would've bought it right away. Such a shame to limit the RAM to 16gb

      just curious, what would you need 32gb ram for? (im really just curious, bc 16gb still seems pretty good to me)

      Am honestly kind of surprised the 1TB model doesn't come with 32GB of RAM. Would be an extra reason to charge at least a couple hundred more for that model.

    You really need to start going over the speakers on these devices. Downward firing speakers normally isn’t all the great especially on a handheld. And whether or not it has VRR. Other than that I’m sure it’s a great performer since it has more space than the rog ally.

    All the time, I couldn't decided, if I buy Steamdeck. I never was into Ally. But now It's clear. No SteamDeck, Legion Go seams like the best choice. Thanks for another interesting video.

    It's funny, because I was about to get rid of my Amazon Fire for an (actual) S9 tablet, but then I saw this powerhouse for the SAME PRICE. For the money this portable gaming machine is very well worth the money. The fact that in can run Cyberpunk is amazing too. I didn't see any stutters in that short gameplay snip.
