- This is a matchup that I've wanted to witness for a long time... Jake & Tommy are among my personal favorite "fearless" guitar players & this session was something to behold.
All the best and keep rollin,
RC

It took me forever to teach these guys their parts but they got it eventually.
RUclips will now need to add a WOW button to replace Like. Thanks for sharing this and all your videos!
I think that's a pretty good idea. All for that. 👍
I went into this knowing it was gonna be crazy, but wow
Insane. Love how Tommy moves the song a little more with his rhythm parts, the walk down he keeps doing kind of adds a feeling of there being a bass present. Jake is playing the traditional rhythm which sounds phenomenal too, though I wouldn’t be surprised if he grabbed a few tricks out of Tommy’s rhythm book on that one. Jake plays flawless and sounds amazing on the picking parts, and it’s super cool what Tommy’s doing with the rhythm. Two masters in their own right.
Uh no actually he’s doing what would make sense in this scenario of being severally on every level OUTMATCHED!! Tommy is great but knows he can’t cut like Jake! Nobody can! So he puts added emphasis on the tempo, classic move when u know someone is way better, period!
I agree with you, Daniel!! Jake is outstanding when it comes to bluegrass and flatpicking. However Tommy in his own right is a master of blending styles and techniques and no one does it like him either.
@@danmills8521 Would love to see a video of Jake tearing it up with a technique different than flatpicking. I've even seen him approach classical music but all done in the flatpicking mode. Please share if you have any.
cheers :)
@@danmills8521 first of all, I don’t think EITHER of these masters approached this encounter with the mindset that it is a competition. I think Tommy was stoked to play with Jake and vice versa. And it just so happens that Tommy made the entire song a little less anticipated by adding his personal flair to the rhythm, which is awesome in my book. I am sure he could play the straight traditional rhythm but why when it adds something new to play it his own way? I am sure Tommy can’t rip bluegrass licks as cleanly as Jake can, but that’s not the entire equation here. The cool thing is, Jake nails those parts, and Tommy adds his flair, and magic happens and it sounds awesome.
@@JackMasonLive I personally enjoy witnessing both attributes. One guy is blending a multitude of styles and the other is perfecting one particular style. Neither is wrong or right but both are a treat to hear, especially when playing together.
Two of the best guitar players around!
Bud, I've shared this clip so many times. What a moment
Insane moment in time
Great video to see jake's right hands position. Amazing technical for both.
Blackberry Blossom's on fire!
Great thing about Tommy - he plays with everyone , loves it with no ego involved ! Pure joy !
Wow! wow! wow! - It don't get no cooler than Tommy Emmanuel unless it's Tommy Emmanuel & Jake Workman!
This is some of the wildest flatpicking I’ve ever seen.
I promise I have never clicked anything so fast. And was not disappointed!
Two of my favorite guitar players, which whom I never thought I’d see in the same room let alone jamming. So cool.. made my night.
Wow!!!!! It's always awesome to see Tommy Emmanuel picking with another musician, and he couldn't have picked a better one! I think it's awesome how he plays all these fingerstyle influenced licks in his flatpicking, which provides a great contrast to Jake's phenomenal picking! A+
Two of my favs together that I never imagined picking together! Great stuff!!!
Same here. I never clicked a video so fast! Lol
i know Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the account password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
@Kian Leon Instablaster ;)
Dern! I now have to go punish my fingers and make my guitars sit in time out after watching that.
Good thing there's "slow-down" button on you tube. Let's me pretend I know what's going on !
Talk about the dynamic duo...WOW!
Wish I was at that party!
Top 10 anime battles of all time.
Holy crap have mercy!
UN BUCKING FELIEVABLE!
Tommy Emmanuel is an absolute beast, but I don't think that jake muted a SINGLE note! That man is probably the best flat picker alive at the moment!
Certainly nobody is better.
@@agalligani He amazes me how clean he can play even upwards of 170bpm.
@@agalligani Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings....
no julian lage is def better
@@fastguitars4380 Molly Tuttle and Billy strings are very very good, but still nothing quite like Jake's speed
I didn't think anyone could put a whoopin' on Tommy, but Jake sure did on this one!! Way to go Jake!
Yeah right okay.
congrats jake ........guitar player of year !!!!!!
That's some fast picking! Great stuff both of y'all!!
Wow! Amazing! Please keep showing us more videos of Jake!
The master played the best backup part as well. A give away sign. Excellent.
Wow! Thanks Russ, Classic video - lots of fun! Tommy is one of the most respected Aussie guitarists around and it seems like Jake constantly raises the bar with each performance. Awesome stuff!
What a fast rendition of Black Berry Blossom by two fantastic pickers!!
A legend and a legend in the making. Jake Workman is near the top of my list for flatpickers of all time. Been following him since he was Playing at fairs, and blowing away the competition even then.
I've never thought of music as a competition but a lot of folks do. I love both of these guys.
Wow! Just wow!
Amazing!!! Great to see Tommy and Jake Jamming it up
insane! thanks for posting!
Wow, just 😮
Man, That is INSANE! Tommy Emanuel and Jake Workman...were the fire alarms going off after that, Russ?
Outstanding blackberry blossom I tell you Tommy can play anything play the song in a different arrangement Jake Workman incredible plus he's Utah boy like me thanks, what love for music.
Two of the best!
The circle of humility, or spiral, or circle.. I see it the loop close when Tommy brings a kid on stage to play.
Five dislikes really? Tommy and Jake are amazing.
AMAZING!
Jiminy Christmas! That was freakin awesome!! I have seen both Tommy and Jake perform individually, but both of them together? Man I’m surprised your camera didn’t burst into flames! Thank you Russ for sharing!
81CROWE thanks for posting these man wow! From NC with no players to play with
A testament to Tommy, that he could jump right in on a bluegrass fiddle tune. A testament to Jake, that Tommy Emmanuel wanted to pick with him.
Tommy knows the neck better than anyone. Can you imagine where Jake will be when he is Tommy's age ?!? My goodness.
I'm gonna go with uh, Holy Crap! Smoke filled room. Thanks Russ!
Wow. What treat! And Mr. Carson I understand that you and the Thunder will be Longview in October. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Carl Stewart
Longview, TX?
@@KWK903 Yes Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder are scheduled to be in Longview, TX in October on Friday the 18th.
This is amazing. Both sound great
That was just great Russ...wish you could have joined in on that!
Nice picking Jake!
Omg!!!!!!!!
Wow.
Man, Jake Workman is amazing but Tommy Emmanuel is just one of a kind. The jazzy diminished stuff he was throwing in, comping up and down the neck, there's just no one better.
DAAAAAMN!
How have I not see this before
Wowzers :-)
Credit to the camera, who ever took this shot! I really like that over the shoulder angle. Brings me as close as possible to the magic of Jake's finger action.
Savage.
Music from the best
You can hear the lighter strings and smaller body of Tommy’s Maton in this clip. That’s why dreadnoughts rule for bluegrass!
What can you say to that?.... Breathtakingly good. One question, how did you know where to finish Jake.? Did someone tip the wink or just pure instinct? 😉
Probably Tommy’s first time playing it😂
when you’re hot , you’re HOT!!!
blackberry bless em
Black berry blossom...
Love the youth talent but Tommy is the teacher.
Safety first guys! Where is the fire extinguisher on standby?
Amazing video! What song is this?
Ben Jammin It’s called “Black Berry Blossom”
As near as I can figure that's about 150bpm!
Ladies and gentlemen, they didn’t stop playing… there were no musical notes left in the universe to play!!!
Was that " BlackBerry Blossom " ?
Yes
I've gotta keep stomping on my guitar so it will burn easier. Anyone want to buy a shitload of picks, strings and a crappy capo?
@50 sec. Can someone tell me what that guy was wearing and is it even legal? Nice guitar pickin btw
I can't even listen that fast.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to walk into that, and there are people outside the door that are clueless...
not to be rude, but I ain't movin' till they're done... sorry if I'm blockin' traffic...
You know, if these guys practiced, they’d be pretty good.
Jake should have charged him for that lesson!!!
Tommy is a phenomenal fingerstyle guitarist but he doesn't hold a light to any of the the best bluegrass flatpickers yet alone Jake.
This is slow by Jake standards!
Nice to see even TE gets a guitar lesson every once in a while.... and as for the sound of that Maton, sheeesh put it back in it's case Tommy, it's just not up to the job.
Jake got a rhythm lesson here.
I went into this knowing it was gonna be crazy, but wow
