And she only managed a couple of ACTUAL "records" in those 154 games. "Beating" players that maybe had 2/3 as many games played at most. But oh yes. The "sports media" started the hype and then the "mainstream media" got onboard - both of which are about as populated with "commentators" with real "basketball IQ" as an international chess tournament - and then "late night talk shows" (all taped in the mid-afternoon) and that was all it took. If it's on the "TV news" it must be "newsworthy" and a big, true story. And on TV there is no "fine print". And thus no opportunity to "share" the fact that CC needed WAY over 100 games to "beat" Maravich's record set in 83 games and if needed she would have had 154 games. 154 games without an NCAA title. Or undefeated season. Or undefeated regular season. Or "serious" in-conference competition. And a senior "superstar" season where the Hawkeyes went 1 and 1 against NEBRASKA and could have easily gone 0 and 2. It is a shame that Angel and CC weren't playing this well 2 months ago. They probably would have been picked for the USA team. Angel has been on a tear the last dozen games and CC has shown that she is a great attack point guard and more than just a shooter. You have to take into consideration how she tilts the defense, ball in her hand, off the ball, there is so much attention on her it completely tilts the defense in a different way than when she is not on the court. It is just recently that she has really unlocked how she reads the game to make the best use of that tilt with her passing. This kind of unique look is what the USA team needs. It is very much like how when Steph Curry in on the court. He tilts defenses merely by being on the court and on the ball.

Great to see team USA get beaten by All Stars. Clark had an off night shooting but still contributed with assist. I'm still waiting for Clark to start moving when she doesn't have the ball. I guess she is still trying to get use to not being the playmaker like she was in college. If she moved around without the ball she could get herself some points with assists from her team mates. She is still the biggest impact in the WNBA. After watching the All Star game and seeing the other players I realized there is some pretty good talent. I'm just imagining how good Clark is going to be in a couple of years when she gets use to the professional game.

What did you all bet on? Rookie scoring record(s)? FG percentage/totals? 3PT percentage/totals? Rookie of the Year? Member of Team USA? WNBA MVP? Playoff appearance(s)? A big Fever "turnaround"?
Probably not assists, lol. And "first rookie triple-double" isn't a statistic. Turnovers is. Technical Fouls is. But she hasn't lead the TF category for quite awhile.
Anyway you all take her "less than dominant" WNBA career so far way too personally to NOT be suffering personal loss as a result. And it can't be loss of pride or face because you had none to begin with putting all your eggs in the basket of a "media darling" everybody with 2 brain cells and zero "basketball IQ" was going to "support". Same goes for status as a "sports expert".
What really has to hurt is it's not even a close "race" in any of the "numbers" you all no doubt expected her to dominate and be a sure thing in.
She's "average at best" in most, "above average" in one or two - positive "numbers" anyway - and "below average" in several.
Not just in the WNBA overall but among starting guards. As THE rookie starting guard. With the youngest legs, orders of magnitude more hype and "support" and far more career game - youth basketball, junior high, high school and college - experience as a starter and "superstar" and "position player" - than any "pro" in history. By a LOT.
How many NBA and WNBA players were 4-year starters in D1 college ball at a "major university"? And had 154 games to become a "GOAT" in any statistic?
Just her. And she only managed a couple of ACTUAL "records" in those 154 games. "Beating" players that maybe had 2/3 as many games played at most.
But oh yes. The "sports media" started the hype and then the "mainstream media" got onboard - both of which are about as populated with "commentators" with real "basketball IQ" as an international chess tournament - and then "late night talk shows" (all taped in the mid-afternoon) and that was all it took.
If it's on the "TV news" it must be "newsworthy" and a big, true story.
And on TV there is no "fine print". And thus no opportunity to "share" the fact that CC needed WAY over 100 games to "beat" Maravich's record set in 83 games and if needed she would have had 154 games. 154 games without an NCAA title. Or undefeated season. Or undefeated regular season. Or "serious" in-conference competition. And a senior "superstar" season where the Hawkeyes went 1 and 1 against NEBRASKA and could have easily gone 0 and 2.
The thing is CC just ain't a "big game" performer when its for "all the marbles" and the more "popular" the WNBA gets and God forbid she goes to a "good team" in a "major market" the more "big games" she will be in and the more she's going to have to "change the game" - HER GAME - to be a "superstar" at the "highest level".
Or even her current "level" now that we've been told by "commentators" and "influencers" that the REASON she was all but completely shut down by Team USA - the SAME Team USA only weeks ago they told us she "deserved to be on" - is that the WNBA has "levels". And all the top level players - except CC - are on Team USA and therefore the All-Star Team...really ISN'T "all stars". That's the implication.
Now what that "fact" has to do with CC and her 4 points and how suddenly "levels" are a thing and how she would have done any better on Team USA as a "backup" guard is anybody's guess.
As is how all of a sudden CC and AR went from "battling" for Rookie of the Year - at two VERY different positions with AR as a FORMER guard - in a supposedly neck and neck race with almost ALL "commentators" giving CC a "slight edge" thanks to that "record" triple-double while until an ACTUAL WNBA ALL-TIME record AR's double-double "streak" went "largely unreported" to APPARENTLY being on very different "levels" in the All-Star Game with AR tripling CC's scoring total and as a "big:.
Of course it was CC's "incredible passing" and assists that helped AR triple her score.
But again that was against Team USA - the best in the WORLD - and AR made it look pretty easy scoring - especially as a ROOKIE "BIG" - while CC "struggled".
So..."levels" again.
One has to wonder what really is the "highest level" although Team USA is clearly the answer if you have "basketball IQ" and CC certainly can't play AGAINST Team USA and Team USA made CC look like a 3rd string "backup" and certainly did not need her to basically dominate the "rest ot the league".
27 minutes on the floor and 4 points and "only" 2 turnovers because she passed the ball to a "shooter" successfully 87.5% of the time while missing 7 of 9 with all 7 misses being "logo 3s" certainly suggests CC was a complete "non factor" in her first real WNBA "big game" for "all the marbles".
And it DEFINITELY PROVES "BAD COACHING" AND A "BAD TEAM" ARE NOT "HOLDING BACK" CAITLIN CLARK AT THE "HIGHEST LEVEL".
WHAT WAS PROVED IS THAT SHE IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME AND "BETTER" COACHES AND TEAMMATES AND PLAYING THE "BEST OF THE BEST" SEEM TO INTIMIDATE AND MARGINALIZE AND COMPLETELY "OFFSET" HER OFFENSIVELY AND THEN SOME BECAUSE SHE IS ALWAYS A NON-FACTOR DEFENSIVELY.

It is a shame that Angel and CC weren't playing this well 2 months ago. They probably would have been picked for the USA team. Angel has been on a tear the last dozen games and CC has shown that she is a great attack point guard and more than just a shooter. You have to take into consideration how she tilts the defense, ball in her hand, off the ball, there is so much attention on her it completely tilts the defense in a different way than when she is not on the court. It is just recently that she has really unlocked how she reads the game to make the best use of that tilt with her passing. This kind of unique look is what the USA team needs. It is very much like how when Steph Curry in on the court. He tilts defenses merely by being on the court and on the ball.

Great to see team USA get beaten by All Stars. Clark had an off night shooting but still contributed with assist. I'm still waiting for Clark to start moving when she doesn't have the ball. I guess she is still trying to get use to not being the playmaker like she was in college. If she moved around without the ball she could get herself some points with assists from her team mates. She is still the biggest impact in the WNBA. After watching the All Star game and seeing the other players I realized there is some pretty good talent. I'm just imagining how good Clark is going to be in a couple of years when she gets use to the professional game.

You can tell she's exhausted. Her 3-point game has been almost nonexistent over the last couple of weeks but so what. She's not a one trick pony. She just came off a game where she set another WNBA record with her points scored and points off assist adding up to 66 points. Her 3-point percentage has fallen but don't kid yourself, she's still the best player on the floor.
