Thank you for your time and effort on this video. I learned a lot. Your music is a hoot. The information of the video is clear and basic enough to follow for a first time BMW owner who wants to know the fundamentals of how to maintain their car. Excellent tip on comparing the old and new parts. I would suggest mentioning torque specs in a subtitle or audio format.
Thanks for the super clear video. Very informative, to the point, and great camera work!
I second that. You rarely see such a good work on these type of videos.
So much easier than I thought it would be. Great install , very thorough. Thank you for the content
Great video, super easy to follow! Thank you!
You should also place high temp anti-seize grease (non-rubber reactive - Permatex 80653) on the pads where they slide on the caliper bracket as well as caliper slide pins. Thanks for the VID.
i know im randomly asking but does anybody know of a method to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid lost the account password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
@Magnus Hudson instablaster =)
@Ignacio Bronson Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Ignacio Bronson It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
@Magnus Hudson You are welcome xD
Nice demonstration - thanks (I've only done pad changes on my Porsche before and wanted to see how it differed as I will soon have to do them on my BMW).
Just a though - while zip ties are the choice of professionals for supporting removed callipers as they routinely tend to use a lift, for a DIY at jack or axle stand height I find that just resting them on an upturned bucket is even more straightforward.
that's a great tip, discoCol. thanks
Thank you very much for posting. Very helpful.
Why not torque all bolts/guide pins to spec? don’t you need to lube (high temp grease) guide pins and all points of contact that slide on pads? These brakes may squeak as well as other problems. However thanks for the video. It does have instructional value.
It also really helps doing the brake job in the spring or summer. In the winter, every part especially the pins are extra hard to remove. Even the wheels are hard to get off. I had to hammer the rotors many times to get it to pop off.
I replaced my rotors, brakes and sensor in two hours. My brakes work like a champ!!
Well done! Thanks for watching!
Excelente video !!! el mejor para cambiar discos y pastillas, muchas gracias !!!
Thank you for watching Rodrigo!
your Video was very helpful. i have a question for you, i change out my brake pad and rotor over the weekend on my 328i, but now every time i step on the brake it's super light, did i do something wrong.
Did you check you brake fluid level. It sounds like air bubbles (compressable) got into the system. This could be from a leak (that's why they're so careful about not hanging the caliber by its hose) or your oil level got too low at some point and air got in the system. I am no mechanic but i think you should check for leaks. To get rid of bubbles you have to bleed the system until all the old oil is replaced. I once had a similar problem with the clutch pedal but i am not sure on this.
thanks guys! great video and gives a good insight as to what to do
Thank you for watching!
Thanks, nice and clearly demonstrated.
Thank you for watching!
2CarPros My Senior Workmate told me about BMW & Mercedes especially (ABS Locked) and Lexus of Toyota also (check engine light comes ON); when we compress Caliper Pistons.
Reason; Brake Fluid goes Reverse through ABS Module which causes ABS Locked or check engine light comes ON.
I see them when they compress Caliper Pistons, before they release little Bleeder Nipple.
I have seen couple different videos related to this in RUclips and all Compressed Caliper Pistons without releasing the Bleeder Nipple.
Please share your knowledge..
Muhamad, which generation BMW are you refering to ? this is a 2007-2013 M3. I never read of anybody releasing the brake fluid bleeding nipple before compressing the caliber pistons. Neither did i read of anyone who got locked ABS problem from this. What you say makes sense though. The only thing i read for other cars is to remove the cap from the brake fluid plastic tank to avoid building pressure when compressing the pistons. My knowledge is incomplete so i don't have an answer.
Awesome how to, thanks! Have one for complete coolant flush how to for e92 M3?
No not for the e92 M3 yet but we do have a couple for other makes and models. Check back with us at a later date to see if we have one made for it.
I open the brake fluid reservoir, and monitor or removed brake fluid as the calipers are pushed back in. No air will get into the system by removing the fill cap. The pad sensor needs to be reset after replacement. I think there is a procedure to do without a scan tool, I just do my with a foxwell.
Great video guys. What brand of rotor did you use for the new ones? Prices for oem or oe rotors are super high, but Bendix makes them for around $50/rotor, but I'm trying to find someone out there who has used this brand before and if so, what was the result. Thx!
They were Bosch I am pretty sure. They were great. I can only recommend using parts from a quality manufacturer. I have never heard of Bendix before so I can't say anything about them. Thanks for watching!
@2CarPros : Do you know the torque values ? Doing this next week and I am very picky on this. Thank you.
Sure here you go

How many miles do you usually change the rotors. I drive stick so i dont really abuse the breaks. Bmw said every time i change the pads i should change the rotors
+akraus5 yes this is true, if you re machine them the brake might squeak
This is a high performance vehicle!!! Do not risk your safe and others by “resurfacing” rotors!!! ALWAYS INSPECT THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION FOR MAX WEAR ON ROTORS BY MEASURING!!!
this car or any car that performs and costs as much should come standar with brembos and generally with top loading pad system...
They are Brembo calipers.
@@militia814 Im pretty sure the callipers in this video are Ate
Shouldn't you lube the slider bolts?
+David Browne yes thanks for the comment we will include it in the next video
2CarPros awesome video guys but please don't miss any steps, don't want to have to take it apart again :(
What lube product / brand should be used ? That would help.
goognam goognws any lithium grease
dragonslayer, i just read from the bmw TIS manual to not grease the slider bolts only clean them.
Is this generally the same steps for changing out pads and rotors for 2013 f30 models? Is there any recoding involved with the bake sensors?
Yes this is the same, the sensors are plug and play no re-coding needed.
hi whatbrand is that electric screwdriver?thank u
+Gokce Derin that was a snap on tool
Don't u have to reset the break light after installing new sensor and pads if so how do you reset the break light sensor that's goes on showing in the display gauge by the hand wheel
please ask all questions here www.2carpros.com/questions/new
Hi. Thanks for th enice video. I was buying some brake rotors online and there was a small note under it "Installation Restrictions: 09/2007;, 300mm rotor" what does this restriction mean?Any idea?
I think that more refers to how big around the rotor is, to make sure your rim will fit over it.
2CarPros thanks
Pełna profeska :D
Is it necessary to bleed the line?
We didn't open the system so no. Thanks for watching!
Why are you replacing good rotors :?
maybe they were warped...
Miroslav Handzhiev maybe he done it as a tutorial. or possibly they're causing vibration
Miroslav Handzhiev they look scored and slightly pitted to my eye. dont forget they have two contact surface areas. the back could be much worse
On these cars it's best to replace the rotor and pads at the same time, the tolerances are too low to try and turn them. FCP Euro has lifetime on all parts so next time they are free.
Very good video !!!
Thank you for watching!
Great Video, but you forget the grease
thanks very much
informative but no torque specs??
Anywhere between 95 - 110 for this car.
88 lbs.ft which is 120 N.m for the wheel nuts on this M3, but what about the two caliper slide screws ?
are you supposed to bleed the brakes or no?
It wouldn't hurt, but it isn't necessary as long as you didn't open the brake fluid system.
John N H nope. thats once every two years on average one may do that. as brake fluid does deteriorate
Shouldn't you remove the brake fluid tank cap before compressing the caliper pistons to avoid building back pressure ?
goognam goognws that can cause air to get in the lines
i think your confusing with the bleeding valve. Removing the cap on the filling tank won't cause air to get in the system and it'll make it easier to compress the calipers pistons.
It will take me longer. I don't have super fast hands like you. Lol
Movie magic definitely helps! Thank you for watching!
Why couldn't you say what size sockets you used instead of saying "using the appropriate size.."?? That was stupid.
Also use you didn't torque down to spec. If I was paying Joe Schmoe to change my brakes in his backyard then how you did it would be ok but you guys are in a shop right? If I was paying "professionals" to do it you better believe I would want it done the correct way.
2 things. Literally no "professional" uses a torque spec when doing brakes. As far as the size goes, everyone takes a guess and sees if it is bigger or smaller. Pretty easy.
It's such a pain to reintall the retainer clip :D
Yep! Keep at it though! Thanks for watching!
You keep saying replace the pins replace the bolts only downside to the video people will think they have to buy new ones😂
If they are in good shape and your brake kit didn't come with new pins then yes you can reuse them. Thanks for watching!
parking brake, NOT E-brake. totally different
Whats the difference?
Emergency brake or E-brake is used for Drifting but Parking brake is to stop a vehicle from rolling accidentally while parking.
You must be confused because you are talking about the same thing. A hand brake for when the vehicle is parked. And your info on drifting is incorrect the professional D1 cars here in North America use a total different setup then a traditional E-brake. The setup on the drift cars has a 2nd set of brake calipers on the rear rotor just for their hand brake system and a separate brake master cylinder.
Here is a link to a picture with the rear hand brake setup in a D1 drift car with 2 rear brake calipers.

+Toby Keith wow. Ignorance can be so embarrassing. 😑
Why is my caliper wobbling after instal. plz respond fast it’s 10:30
rusty hub !!!! those who watch it know each other on the exchange of shields ??? !!!
