I lived between 2018 and 2022 in Japan. These kind of phone ia VERY popular among elderly in JP. When you take it with an appropriate plan it's almost free (beside the plan wich is outrageously pricy in comparison to my homw country, France). Anyway those phones will always remind me of Japan. I wish i bought one with a touch screen as a secondary phone for my business XD

Après rien ne dit que la portée réseau sera optimale, je suis chez Free, par moments il capte le réseau mais la plupart du temps y'a rien du tout, pas même en EDGE ou 2G :/ Donc faut bien regarder les bandes réseaux locales vers chez toi, qui correspondent à ton opérateur, ça devient vite compliqué 😅 Le mieux à faire c'est de se choper un téléphone français même si ceux que l'on a sont sacrément moche, j'aimerais bien me chopper un Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 car il est magnifique mais quasi introuvable hors de la Corée... I do prefer the Aquos SH-01J over the Digno 902KC solely on the fact that it has an in-built touchscreen inside the keypad. It's a real lifesaver when you want faster navigation inside the phone
@@leagrigorescu294 No sadly not, from what I've read you need to be in Japan and have a valid Docomo account. I do know there are some little hacks like being on a Japanese VPN and changing the timezone etc but not sure if it actually works. Atm I am fine on 5.1 though
About the cursor experience, have You ever seen the Kyocera gratina 4g? It’s very interesting how you can scroll smoothly by using the buttons, I haven’t seen something like that before, I wonder if it’s common on Japanese flip phones. Also, those videos about Jp flips are awesome, thanks!
Yeah saw that in youtube but for me i prefer one with cursor and not with scrolling function as I want to stop mindless scrolling anymore. Unfortunately this doesnt have selfie camera so it’s not for me

Hi Jose, I am planning to buy the updated KY-42C which is for a different mobile network provider here in Japan. I hoped the LPII to support more language and also be usable here but to no avail. Also considered the KY-01L but it lacks back (front) light and very small battery for even an e-ink screen. I really wish an updated KY-01L or a multilingual LPII.

Hey Jose. Your video about the DruaXV made me finally make the switch after years of deliberating. I thought I was just going to use it for the summer and swap back when school starts, but now I can't imagine using a smartphone again. The DuraXV is really great, I love the functionality and simplicity of it, however, it's really bulky, not a lot of customizability as far as the interface goes, and sometimes I think it gets weighed down with the amount of texts and images I have (a personal problem). I saw this phone in a separate video by someone else just offhandedly mentioning it, and of course you've made a video on it. I'm sold, on it, but I use Verizon. I am extremely disappointed because I couldn't make it do anything without having to go through Google this, and Google that. Wouldn't let me download apps via Apks. Wouldn't let me download F-Droid. I must have tried 5x. It was possible I was doing something wrong, but the bottom line is, If I wanted an app, it had to be through the Google Play store. I finally factory reset it for now. I was really frustrated! Anyway, is this phone's Android version regular Android, or "Go" version? I wonder if that had anything to do with it? Pardon my ignorance. Again, thanks for your instructive videos. This phone appears very interesting to me, though it is pricey from what I saw in the website.
This one doesn’t have Google at all. You can download apks, modify it without any input from google. It’s AOSP 8.1, so full android. Not the Go version.

The 701KC is less usable than the 902KC sadly. If you want a Ketai, the 902KC is your best bet.

I bought one from ebay that was supposed to be unlocked and it is asking me for a "SIM Network unlock pin".

Does this have built in call recording? If not, have you tried call recording software with it?
You can install apps for call recording on this. It brings a recorder by default, but Idk if it records calls as well

They are very similar. I believe there is a minor difference in the RAM.
In Japan they were sold under different carriers. One was Y mobile and one was softbank. Virtually the only difference

You can enable those letters with traditional T9 keyboard :)

Dumb question, can this phone play dumbphone games from back in the late 2000s and early 2010s? I heard most dumbphone games back then are running on Java and lost in time, so they are very hard to find and might not work. 🤔

errrrrrrrrrrrr i got my kyocera 701kc in the mail, AWESOME!!!!! but it can only text and receive text, and cant make or receive calls, maybe it has something to do with the few settings in hiragana

it still cant call or receive calls, but now there's a 4g icon next the the bars and i can load pages on the browser

Spotify works well. Maps not so much
How is the texting experience on WhatsApp? I've been reading that the text box covers the whole screen and you can't see the other messages anymore while typing a message

I hated the LPII when I had it. Ran it for like a year or so. I am currently on a F1 Orchid. I have been on it also now for about a year. Would I enjoy this phone? I am looking for one with more capability than the F1, but not as much as a smart phone. I think this phone can have spotify, no?
