I swear when Anthony said let’s go to India right now, I really questioned whether or not the writers had knowledge of the geography logistics of this. Because the Suez Canal will not be built for another 40ish years so they have to take the LONG WAY around Africa to get to India. What made the writers think that this was an acceptable journey for them to have while Kate is pregnant and showing?? LOL what a mess!! 🤣

I question their history knowledge like any astute British writer would know they going to India isn't realistic or ideal or romantic since India is colonial of the British Empire that time😅

    • @ks1342

The thing that gets me even more about this is they mention Edwina married someone from Europe, and it seems likely their mother would still be spending time in between Kate and Edwina rather than going back to India full time alone. If you're going to take this approach for them, just say Kate wants to have the baby where her mother and sister are in Europe, which is a much more feasible trip for a pregnant woman! And why take the baby to India when it is too young to even experience the culture and there's potentially no family there?

    • @TempSS2677
      @TempSS2677 3 месяца назад +3

@@ks1342 I think the way Kate was talking about it to Anthony & jumping into the topic of Kate's used to ride all the time back at her hometown, Edwina is not at Europe. In fact she probably married an Indian guy & so her whole family is at India. But I don't blame anyone to not get it. Even I'm like maybe I wrongly interpreted Kate's word because the writing on this whole thing is incoherent & inconsistent AF😅

I feel like the writing is so careless. Like no one is paying attention to how one scene moves to the next. Benedict leaves a wedding BREAKFAST to go to Tilly's but Tilly and Paul don't show up until it is DARK. DID HE SIT THERE FOR HOURS!?!?!?!?!?!

I think that the reason the other debutants don't try to be friendly with Penelope is because of her family. If you notice Phillipa and Prudence don't have girl friends either. People just never notice this because they've always had each other. I think that the debutants are actively seeking Eloise because the Bridgertons are a very prominent family. Same with Francesca. Both Fran and Eloise are obviously disinterested with the frivolousness of society, yet have other debs still seek them out. Unfortunately Back then, friendship between women were less about comradery and more about social gain and this is reinforced by Mrs. Cowper in her chat with Cressida later in the ep.

Yes, the Bridgertons are a very powerful bc they are a very old family (11 generations of the Vicountcy) and they are also closely tied the the Rokesbys. They are like a billionaire family today. Anthony buying a racehorse in season 2 is like buying a Ferrari like nothing.

Thank you SO MUCH for bringing the whole Kanthony travel to India sh*t up! I hate when show and movie writers/directors treat their audience as if we're stupid. 😑 The timeline doesn't make any sense in the story nor with Anthony's character at all. But well, if something they've been consistent with this season, it's their poor management/treatment of timelines in writing as well as in editing.😅😖
Also, as a 2005 Pride & Prejudice girly, I would watch a reaction from you two any time. 🥰

  • @thefuriousfemme

I dont typically comment on videos, but - Every single point youve made is so on point, and makes so much sense.
It comes down to lack of creativity, poor writing, bad editing, and the fact that the writers do not understand how to write romance (with a little bit of drama). The new show runner has retconned so many aspects of character development that took place oflver s1, s2 and qc, and really overly modernized the look of the costumes and sets. The poorest aspect of the writing is the absolute failure to develop any of these characters in a consistent and believable manner.
Makes me think about the difference between Marvel and DC (idk if this will resonate, but...) - marvel develops characters and they act within the rules and parameters of their universe to develop characters, solve problems, and elicit outvomes, with resolutions and cliff hangers being consistent with those characters and their arcs. DC writes scenarios and places underdeveloped characters into them in order to achieve a particular END to a problem or situation. Characters act in service to the story....
Im further annoyed by the inclusion of lgbt content for seeming shock factors and to "grab" lgbt viewers (stay with me here).
I LOVE that benedict is exploring his sexuality, but make his affair this season WITH a man, if hes exploring...and make his scenes meaningful, passionate, reflective and most of all, relevant to his character development. But no - we get retconned Benedict, and poorly edited not spicy bi sex.....just in time for PRIDE yall. It screams - "hey queers, come get your gay sex...we need your viewership! Thx..."
Give us eloise with actual personality.
Dont throw us the possiblity of lgbt love at the last minute / end of the season, after we have spent HOURS seeing the beginnings of Fran and John's relationship just being established, in hopes that lgbt folks will be SO excited to see the possibility of ourselves represented in this work that we will overlook the absolute absurdity of the timing, and anxiously await the return of this show for s4 over the next 2 years.
Give the viewers the story that we tuned in to see...give us the wallflower and the cute boy next door! dont chicken out on showing us how an overlooked, non traditional sized woman gets a beautiful, wealthy, and influential man of her dreams, is desired, loved and learns to cultivate and manage power and be authentic in relationships, learning to integrate her interior self with her exterior self, while also learning to be loved - with cut aways from scenes with the main couple where the editing seems to very intentionally break intimacy, and making the story about "the fat girls ability to get everything she ever dreamed of" without ever actually doing the hard work of showing up for herself and the people she loves, all while the showrunner talks about how its not important to talk about size in terms of social capital, beauty standards, and how larger bodied women are swept aside and over looked. And goes further to say that she was excited to see herself in Frans story....how twrribly disappointing.
This lacks imagination, feels pandoring, and i am (as you can see) annoyed by it all.
Having said! I have really enjoyed your reactions to the episodes ❤ and will keep watching!

I think the fact that Colin and his mother show up at the ball after the letters Penelope sent out is their way of saying that she's got their support. But they needed to make it much clearer. They could have worked that part out much better, again, if they didn't have all of the side plots going on!

In my mind, Penelope asked the Bridgertons to keep their distance during the reveal... that is the only way it makes sense for me BUT as these ladies have said, I would still have preferred to see Colin supporting her beforehand.

Second rewatch of your video…the lack of a sex montage also grieves me. I think the reason we are missing it for season 2 and 3 is because Shonda didn’t write it. She wrote Queen Charlotte and Season 1. But if we got a montage for the last 5 minutes of episode 8 showing them happy, showing her put his hand on her belly to show her telling him or them reading in bed when she’s heavily pregnant. Then cut to the closing scene of episode 8. That would have made me happier

My new favorite dynamic duo! 😊Maybe y’all should create your own channel. Thank you ladies so much for this analysis/discussion. Excellent insight, and you both make strong cases for how the scene/ episode/season could have been fixed. I have felt alone on an island talking about how upsetting it was that Kate and Anthony would decide to go to India. Or the fact that they had no wedding, or she wears no ring after he gave away his mother’s engagement ring to Edwina. Or the lack of Colin and Pen time. The season is filled with so many other sub plot non plots that they get no real development with the characters. I totally agree with you the season needed longer or more episodes. I’m interested to hear what your thoughts are about Fran and the choices they made for her at the end of episode 8.

No, Penelope is not omniscient. She doesn't know any and all eff'd up issues going on in everyone's lives and is just deciding to ignore it. She's obviously got some sort of grapevine system where she is able to check around for what people are saying -- she appears to have pretty reliable sources -- but she doesn't have "eyes on" everything. That is not a thing.

Luke Newton ATE that opening scene! I love that his eyes were teary and THE MOMENT that Pen nodded she was LW, the tears finally fell! And yes, it fits his character to cry when angry vs raging (Anthony would totally be yelling).
For me, I've rewatched Polin scenes from S1-3 and I think their love story does make sense & is very sweet. Regarding S3, I think it can be summed up as "Luke & Nic CARRIED the season!" Which is an odd thing to say if you think about it because wouldn't it be expected that the leads be the best thing? And it specifies the ACTORS as opposed to the characters, which raises concerns about the writing. Luke & Nic themselves provided the nuances & complexity of Polin through their acting.

I always watch your videos, but I haven't commented before, but this video I had to. This season hasn't been as enjoying for me to watch. I tried, but it feels like they got so much wrong this season, but watching with you two and seeing your reactions has been worth it. You have made it worth it with your humor and the way you two call out all the things in this season that were just nonsensical. Your Kanthony rant was EVERYTHING! We all understand that Jonathan and Simone will not be able to be in every episode going forward, but the way they chose to explain their absence was a disservice to the characters that we know. We, as the audience, will accept our characters doing almost anything if it makes sense to who those characters are. I can't wait until the finale reaction.

  • @mariazamora6824
    @mariazamora6824 3 месяца назад +10

You know, I do fully agree with your final comments about Colin because I see a lot of ppl write him off as a whiny boy who just needs to get over it and I'm like, um...hello S1??? This society shits on women the most but the LW Marina reveal AFTER he publicly announced the engagement was EXTREMELY humiliating to Colin as a man in this world. Esp when we saw everyone telling him he was being dumb for proposing. Colin later told Marina that if she had told him the truth he still would've helped her. The incident happened to THAT Bridgeton! And I'm glad S2 really helped build up his insecurities & situation as a character, but S3 fell flat on that. If the writers REALLY wanted to stick with Colin doesnt need to DO anything but support Pen, then the only way to really * show * us that is him standing with Pen when she reveals herself.
It's frustrating because just from the show alone, I do think it shows us Colin is a caring & loving partner, but still flawed human being but this S3 could've been absolute landslide for the best & realest relationship in the series.

I truly believe that adding Polin scenes would've solved 90% of the complaints/problems. That would've helped with the Polin character development/history & by eliminating side plots scenes, I would * imagine * that it would've forced the writers to get creative to make a much leaner script, not back track on plots, & then also force the director SHOOT those scenes in a manner that would follow "show, don't tell."

When I first watched this season, I was in a really bad mood because I felt the lack of Polin and the strange up/down organization of the scenes (as you pointed out so well). I've come around to enjoying some of the actual content of many scenes, but still think the Polin story was completely screwed up, no proper resolution/getting back together/time to be married and happy before the S8 end, and the go to India thing was so bad I still chuckle over it. Sigh.

What if they do that "bridgertons assemble!" In Benedict's season? They'll band together to help Sophie in some way, considering her out of wedlock birth and basically servant status in her family.
Also, I do love this season. It is the best season yet, for me. However, i would've liked more Polin, too. Maybe another dream sequence while they're on the rocks or some extra longing from Colin while they're arguing. Perhaps a scene where Colin helps Pen evade a Palace gaurd like Eloise did before? Maybe a scene where Colin walks in on Pen writing another column and they have a tiff like in the square that is more intense but doesn't lead to anything, but is heavily edging.

Even if the carriage scene in ep 4 and the intimate scene in ep 5 were a bit more spaced out, it would've been better. I mean we saw more of Colin in the brothels than Colin with his wife. I believe that something had to have been cut. I really hope they don't 2 part season 4.

Same thing in the book. Book readers didn't get wedding or wedding night for Polin. They only had 1 love scene, not even the mirror scene, though Colin only mentioned it briefly. But at least they were not at odds like show Polin. Book Polin had some underlying tension during their marriage due to Colin's subconsciously feeling like amateur writer compared to Penelope who has been published & successful author for 10 years. He's having insecurity issues but only when Lady Whistledown is mentioned. He's not openly cold to Penelope though, like in the show which make sense since show Colin found out about her identity pretty late plus Penelope had almost ruined Marina & Eloise (forced to) & also the Bridgertons (unintentionally) unlike book LW. Different situation altogether.

Shonda Rhimes need to create a show in the main Bridgerton show for side characters stories !
Because if she did that , we can get a little bit more backstory on all the characters and create new characters to come in into the show I’m just saying

I'm a fan of the season, too! I'm not nay-saying the folk who don't like it, because I think their issues with it are super salient. I definitely think the various storylines were a bit weak and needed more time to breathe, and some of them could have been scrapped entirely to make space for the main couple. Some of the timing and pacing choices the writers made just drove unnecessary drama and contrived cliffhangers. I would have preferred, for example, to see more Colin and Penelope working together on their shared goals rather than spending so much time at loggerheads. However, Luke and Nicola did such a good job of using the screen time and story beats they did get to portray a really compelling love story.

There are tons of things I vent about that bother me in this and other shows. But that's why I understand it!!!😂 you have to rant in order to let it out because it feels like it's bursting within you not to let somebody know how annoyed you are with how something went down! Lol! But that enhances the point I was making

And I think the feeling behind the story lines is greatly affected by how people find value in the very concept of romance novels..... I don't remember what reaction I was watching, but someone was saying how they don't mind a "flat villain". So they didn't really feel the need for a Cressida redemption arc. I get that. Do I share that opinion? No😂. But I do see how other people, with different expectations of what they want out of a romance story could not enjoy. I'm not watching this show and loving it for the same reasons I watch the movie Interstellar, and love it. I just think me and these reactors, as funny as they are do not come to Bridgerton to receive the same things..

Personally, I really enjoyed this season. I thought it did a good job of adapting the book to screen and even improving it in some ways. For book lovers, there were hints, nods and influence from Romancing Mister Bridgerton. I did read most of the books, but Polin's story was not one of my favorites. I also came into this season still being angry and disappointed with what the writers did to the Viscount Who Loved Me. So my expectations were definitely somewhat low.

8:04 my theory around this is that they’re rolling Posy and Rosamund’s character into one in Cressida so she’s going to be the stepsister or lady who Sophie waits on with her Aunt Joanna.
And I will add that I really want a trans Sophie whether she’s ftm or mtf, but I’m terrified of how horrific those crazy fans would be in tormenting the actor if they make that choice.

Ive read most of the books 6/8. Romancing Mister Bridgerton is not my favorite book, but I did like the season. I feel like some things they improved on from the book and other things made Polin's story worse. Definitely wish they had more screen time, but it was a HUGE improvement for me from season 2. I don't think it was as good as season 1 for me, but then again doing better than season 2 is not a high bar to clear. What annoys me is that they seemed to have a lot more references and influences from the book than season 2... So obviously they are capable of adapting a book to screen.

I was OK with the plot until the end of episode 7 then I was like this is my final straw. The writers really relied on the fans who read the books to understand the nuance of Colins character which doesn't help non readers who just have decided to continuously hate Colin for no reason (even though he's always respected Penelope, cared for her, didn't KNOW she liked him, and she wrote about his family after hanging out in their house over the years which is complete snakey behavior and I love Penelope) but alas, I read the book and didn't even want them to do the book plot and left wishing they had just done that instead! Disappointment. Loved certain side plots but there was NO need for as many as we got. Also the writers were different from season 1 and 2 not just the show runner so she scraped the original writers who started the show as well. What a mistake. I don't really have faith in the quality of the show moving forward which is sad because coming off of Queen Charlotte, I think we all (rightfully so) got our hopes up.
Also: I have so many thoughts. Since jess decided in the middle of filming season 2 that season 3 was going to be polin, they could have pre planned to have Colin to start yearning for Penelope at the end of season 2 and not knowing what it means and then when confronted he denies that he would ever court her but no. How come all these other characters get these plot points leading up to their season but polin fans couldn't get that? Only Penelopes yearning with no progression on Colin's end until episode 3 of season 3. Smh

You know before Prudence & Portia entered her room while mocking her about writing letters to Colin & thinking of selling her books. Penelope is kind but she's spiteful. Plus, Jack came in after that, he seems to be taking care of their estate so she didn't have any need to help them anymore.

Pen's excuses for writing about Colin were a bit gross. She was lashing out at him because she was angry, hurt and jealous, but as you said, that is the sort of conversation that should be kept between the two of them. The conversation they did have about it was great, but also soured by her initial response. She wants him the way she wants him, and didn't like that he changed, yet she's never once bothered to ask him why. Him believing that she lacks respect for him is completely understandable. I know she's a gossip, and a fundamental lack of consideration for other people's feelings and privacy is a given, but he was her friend for a long time. He always protected her, and saw her when nobody else did. What happened in 2x08 sucks, but one incident shouldn't negate all those years. Besides, Pen's intentional, pre-meditated, public attack on him was much worse than Colin's one-off, spur-of-the-moment comment to a limited number of people. All their conversations in S3 have been primarily focussed on her, largely because she let him believe he needed to earn back her friendship, when she'd already gotten her petty revenge. Her crush on him may have been one-sided in the first two seasons, but their friendship never was, until this season. Whether it's because the writers listened to all that toxic, entitled nonsense people kept saying about wanting to see Colin grovel, which is really gross, or for some other reason, that does not make for a healthy dynamic. I mean, she wanted him so badly for so long, but now that she has his love, she cares more about her ego? She'd really choose trashy gossip over the life she could have with him? Really?! Also, you were spot on about Eloise and Colin loyally keeping Pen's secrets, no matter how hurt and angry they were about them. Which is kind of ironic, since Penelope herself has little respect for anyone else's secrets.

My overall issue the show is that its badly written. So badly written that I think the writers didn't like the books and/or wanted to establish themselves as the writers of the show rather the adaptors of the books. The books aren't prefect but we can't say time was spent building foundational personalities and histories. The show is the fast food version of just cheap bad writing. I am down for the diversity but the base of the show is a entire family of white aristocrats damn near all falling for "othered" people, that isn't diversity, its cheap to smite the books and the era they took place in. The major issue book readers have with Franchesca, is that her book is probably the best written foundationally and the issues that Franchesca handles in her life are modern, real and very emotionally developed. It's grief, isolation, both birthing and mothering, expectations and self will. Does Michael have to be a man... As much as I am a huge pusher of diversity and love being on a wide range, I would say Michael does have to be male for Francesca's story to make sense. The show is just solidly bad.
