      Yeah, it's tricky. I have the original, 6" Perry. I usually wear a 9.5 in most Keen's for example. I got the Perry in 9D, it's a snug fit, but IF I worked in them I suspect the leather would stretch out more.
      I tried 3 different White's Boots with a steel toe, none of them fit well, sent them all back.

      This is the biggest problem when it comes to ordering and waiting 6 months. I do it and it’s just a crap shoot man. You can’t be afraid to send them back. But if they are MTO you’re kind of screwed. I don’t understand why sizing for the Pacific Northwest boot makers are so varied! Just seems like they need unified. And don’t get me started about Viberg, who are my absolute favorites. It’s really aggravating

    It would be cool to interview a foot doctor on the mystery of shoe sizes. To examine the variables (flat foot, high arch, toe shape/angle, etc) that determine how a shoe fits. I’m a brannock 10.5 D but had to go a full size up (11.5) and got a EE width for my 8 inch regular Perry.

    • @Shaboomquisa
      @Shaboomquisa 7 месяцев назад

      yeah this is me too I think. my foot size is 8 I tried 7.5 twice nicks and whites both times the boot didnt bend in the right spot if I put my foot against the wall im a 9 because of my heel the brannock doesn't come in contact with my heel it juts out slightly. also by nicks standards im a ff in 8 while brannock says im a 8 ee/ e. doesn't account that my foot is just big everywhere. never noticed discomfort at 9 ee. I have to wear 9ee for cowboy boots but even then my instep is still pushing it. 9ee whites perry select seem to be fine instep hurt for a minute but it feels snug.
      people treat the brannock like the holy grail and if you say its wrong for you the whole shoe community treat you like real snooty

    As a boot noob this was helpful in a different way than a typical Rose Anvil video on the main channel. With those standard videos you learn mostly about construction and materials, but here there was a lot more talk about sizing and comfort and break in and how a leather insole feels (because honestly you don't get full thick leather insoles until $300+ I think...) Always curious how those feel since I only have tried Thursdays (Presidents) with plenty of poron in the insole.
    I really like the idea of a boot constructed with leather all the way in the sole including the shank, so this boot is one of the lower cost options that almost have that (I like the idea of more leather in place of the cork). Just wish it was a more service boot standard look rather than moc toe. Personal preference I guess. I also like the idea of the wedge sole, I primarily wear shoes on concrete in the city walking around doing daily tasks. Have onry tried the typical heel style common in many service boots.

  • @joe_ferreira

    I wish the PNW boot companies would just publish the mondo sizes and a measurement of what they actually make the widths.... they make all the footbeds the same. I don't know why it is so hard.

    • @user-mm1nr6dn6e
      @user-mm1nr6dn6e Месяц назад

      yes exactly, mondo is the way to go. Ski boots are at most .5 sizes apart (26.5 on one brand 27 on another) and it's easy to tell the heel widths apart as most companies use the same heel and midsole for a single size. It makes sizing so miuch easier and is far more accurate when youre spending $500-800 on ski boots, which is a similar price rantge to PNW heritage boots. Just give us the internal length, the metatarsal width, and the overall toe shape, and let us decide!!

    I order all my custom Whites from Bakers. I have 10+ pairs and they are all 10D. My left foot measures 11 on the Brannock and my right foot measures a hair over 10.5. The best advice I can give you is to outline your feet and send in the required measurements. The guys at Bakers will take care of you. Keep in mind that different lasts will fit differently. You may not be the same size in all of their lasts. I wear a 9.5E in their MP last.

    i've spent a full year trying to figure out sizing for both Whites and Nicks. My brannock size is a 8.5EE so I originally got 8EE Whites Perrys (non select version) because everyone said to do 1/2 size down, thought they fit decent but the heel slip was annoying, figured I just needed to break them in more. After a year, the heel slip really never went away but i added an insole and it's helped a lot.
    After watching this video a few months ago, I ordered a pair of Perry Selects in 7.5D to see if those would fit better (not sure why I went with D width honestly but I did), they absoutley did not lol they were way to tight so I returned them. Decided to give it 1 more try and went with a 7.5EE in the Perry Selects... they are absolutely incredible fit. ZERO heel slip, but also not like cramped or anything. I'm very excited to break these in. So, for me, going down a full size for the Perry Selects was the right move.
    If you want some more confusion, I also have a pair of whites semi dress and those are size 8F and fit great lol idk man, i hate the sizing guessing game.
    Thanks for listening to my TED talk hah

    because i hear too many misconceptions about this: objectively (in an orthopedic sense) a good fit in a boot means it's snug behind the joint (at the metatarsals and around the heel, where you lace it in place tightly, so it holds your foot and supports your arch and ankle), just slightly hugging the ball area (WHITHOUT squishing but so that it doesn't slide around) and roomy at the toes to give them space. and off course the insole should resemble your joint positions and the shape of your foot as good as possible.

I'm a 10.5 Brannock on one foot and just under 11 Brannock on the other. The 9.5 fits great...toes 'do not' touch the end of the toe box. The higher arch definitely holds your foot back in the boot.

      Grand Stone are great boots but their sizing is wonky too. They told me to go down a half size from my sneaker size. The boots were a half size to big. I needed to go down a full size. Plus on their Diesel the tongue isn't gusseted very high which is very frustrating on a $350 boot. The tongue slips off to the side when walking no matter how tight you tie the laces. I am keeping them but going to get a boot I can try on in the store for my next heritage boot. No more internet sizimg.

    I now have 2 pairs of the Whites now. I have a Perry Moc Toe in Brown distress leather. I really enjoy this boot. Fit and sizing wise are spot on. I am not sure about Brannock size. I went with 13EE.
    Just got a Perry Select in Burgundy last week. It also fits good right out of the box. It will be my weekend boot...Way too nice for work...Both are 6in boots. I got the boot on your recommendation...
    Now, I have to figure out what to get next. A Nicks or another pair of Whites...?

    Loved the vid, do more of this style! I got my Perry's (not select) 1 month ago. Same issue with my heel being torn up. I've found wearing darn tough socks eliminates the chafing pain. It may be the socks slip more and arent as rough as cotton socks. I also have lady ankles. I went down a half size from brannock, and while they fit well, I do wonder if going another half size down would have been better. My feet don't slide around but there is plenty of heel slip and the last is all together roomy and generous. Plenty comfy standing and walking all day though!

    Next time if I was you roll over to a house construction site hunt up a couple real carpenters and offer them a free pair of boots for a 2, 4, & 6 month evaluation?
    I see one guy who actually wore his boots for what they are meant for! He was the one ppl probably zeroed in on ! The rest of it as an interested party was just noise!

    Never seen this brought up however your feet can swell during different times of day and during long hikes etc. I was always told to get a half size bigger to account for that. Always worked for me although now looking at PNW style boots I'm even more confused as the sizing is all over the place. Try them in person maybe pull out an insole of a good fitting boot you have and take it to the store etc to compare.

    I have 8 inch regular black Perry’s and 6inch British tan selects. I did get blisters breaking in the 8 inches but I feel that was my fault for pushing them to early. I started just wearing them for hour or 2 then I wore them for 3 mile walk and that shredded my heels. Since then they broke in and feel great and i didn’t have any issues with the selects breaking them in even with the leather counters. I’m 12 on brannock and both are 11.5 d and for the same on me. They are both great boots I don’t like wearing my tgoods anymore and won’t be purchasing them in the future. The double shot leather is awesome the pull up is next level. I’m actually thinking of getting a pair of black selects and moving the regular Perry’s to just work rotation.

I have the original Perry boots on their first resole and they are hands down my favorite over anything I've ever worn. This is compared to Nick's 11067, whites 55 last, and JK 55 last. Each leather being conditioned differently is probably why your sizing preferences are all different. Maybe if you each had the same boot color you’d start to see a sizing pattern.
    But I’m with the one guy who goes a full size down. I feel like a clown anytime I go true to size or half size down. Full size down tends to be more form fitting.

    Every Perry model on the website says it’s made on the 1972 Arch-Ease last, which they claim is their flattest last. I’m not understanding this talk about the select and regular having different arch support.

    • @Artemis-v8i
      @Artemis-v8i Год назад +2

      The leather shank will mold to your foot more and therefore giving more arch support in the select.

    • @shakebake2680

      The bummer about Red Wing’s don’t come in EE in all their moc toes. Unbelievable their mens black moc toe only come in Standard D. As well as they only make one color 8” moc toe. Hence why Whites is so appealing. Yet frustrating they they don’t just make and keep these in stock. The 8-10 week turnaround (if you’re lucky) is crazy. Especially if the sizing is off, then add another 8-10 weeks in hopes the other size will fit perfect. Ugh.

    Thanks for the great info. Just got my pair of 6" Tobacco Stampede boots this weekend. I'm curious how you all lace these? Does anyone actually use the eyelet at the very top? Just the speed hooks?

    • @JoeyDecay
      @JoeyDecay Год назад +1

      I have a 6" Thorogood 1959 or whatever it is, the one Wes reviewed in October, but I never use the top eyelet. Mostly because I'm lazy in the morning so I don't even untie them, just take them off the speed hooks and then put them back on tied in the morning either on the way to work or when I get there depending if I'm running late.

    • @JoeyDecay
      @JoeyDecay Год назад +2

      I guess if yr working and don't want the laces falling off a hook from them getting loose from moving all day then use the eyelets, otherwise it's just extra work to me... but that's my personal experience and preferences.

    • @Arto257
      @Arto257 Год назад +1

      What Joey said. If you're really moving around a lot and putting a bunch of weird lateral movement on your boots, I'd use the very top eyelets. But personally, most of my work is pretty normal motions, just in tough conditions, so I don't bother with the top eyelet. The speed hooks do fine for me.
