- Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams Come True / Hot Fun in the Summertime (Live)
The Liberty Concert July 4 1985
Liberty State Park, New Jersey
Just prior to Live Aid, on July 4, 1985, Hall & Oates performed at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey as part of the Liberty Concert, where they played an outdoor benefit concert for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. It became a major music event drawing an estimated crowd of over 60,000 people.
This is the most 80s thing I have ever seen in my life.
And 8 years later it's still fantastic
Best out there❤🎉 wow🌺
LMAO
Yep.
I was there.... I danced all the way home...
acald161 omg!!!! So lucky, I would probably have to be carried home🤤
dude they're so different from what i expected live. really rock and roll, i love it
I can actually sing their song exactly like it is recorded live
Just call him John "sexy swivel hips " Oates! He's grooving to his music, all over the stage. Love it!
Daryl, well he just oozes, a sexy coolness, that I can't get enough of either! ❤
this is the most 80's rock concert i have ever seen
It still gives me the chills to see this concert, after all these years. Their version of "Hot Fun" is as good as the original. I love them all, and GE Smith is a god.
T-Bone Wolk RIP.
Best Hall and Oates song
That was one hell of a performance!!!
WHO can beat that?!
Nobody!
I was mesmerized watching this whole show.
And I couldn't believe how completely, and extremely confident Daryl was, like he wasn't intimidated by all of those people!
To watch him, he looked like he was born to perform!!
Let me tell you, Daryl can entertain!!!
And I kept eyeing up his outfit.
Well fitting leggings, a popular stylin' shirt of that time.
And he never seemed to run out of energy.
And John Oates looked happy and in the mood for performing too, like he was totally into it!
With the fireworks going off in the background, and the torch coming ablaze lit, at the Statue of Liberty, it was a party!! Yeah!!!
I wonder how long Daryl and John took to come down off of the high that that performance brought them to?!
That was truly exciting boys!
I am so proud, and I didn't even know about this until now.
Thank God these memories, captured in this video!"
hEnjoyed this.......back in the day! T Bone, GE Smith, Charlie DeChant, Dayrl, John..........terrific!
This here video is very special to me.
I have seen it at least twice, maybe three times.
And I wanted to place a comment on it earlier today, but I had suffered momentary "writer's block".
Now, I am finally ready to say how I really feel about this cherished video.
Well, I am forever amazed and totally impressed, out of my mind practically, how awesome this is!!!!
I could not take my eyes off of Daryl!
He looked SOOO good in this.
Not that he doesn't look good in all of his videos, but this one in particular, he exudes extreme confidence!
And the reason that I had struggled with what to say earlier, is because I was slightly intimidated, by how extremely confident he was in this, because it didn't make sense to me.
Looking at all of the hundreds of people in the crowded audience, how come he wasn't afraid, or unnerved?.
Daryl seemed to actually be super charged, and on fire with tireless energy!!
WTF?!
Or, I tried to reason with myself, thinking that maybe this is what gives him a high, so that might explain his award-winning performance?
The bottom line is, it was a fabulous show, Daryl was showing off his talent, (and looking damn good while doing it), with all the electrified highly energized body movements, constant movement.
Maybe Daryl was just letting his light shine, doing what the Creater created him to do!!!
But like why can’t anybody appreciate and acknowledge John Oates vocal abilities and talents like if you really listen you can hear his voice is just as great as Daryl’s
I love how it's a mixed crowd, usually when i watch concert videos for rock bands it's like an (no offence to anyone, i'm just saying) ocean of white people! Same thing but other way around for some rap artists. But H&O have different fans of different backgrounds which i love so much! Everyone's attracted to H&O's talent!!
Jayheartsjonas I agree😀, down with segregation✌️.
Sandy Herron oh. Took me a second to realise you didn’t mean “I’m down with segregation” as in “I’m cool with segregation”
I mean if you really listen to this song it's got godfather of soul vibes ❤️
@RainMan68 Daryl is just one of those rare performers who has so much natural charisma & energy. He never needed any help letting it show. I never got the impression he was coked out. I guess when kids these days see what true talent really was, they have to find a way to discredit it 'cause it is so foreign to their present experience.
An they say old washed up these kids now in the industry really don't have a clue if the real raw genuine true heart an soul talent that H&O have . They paved the way with real music talent not some fake auto tuned slush so called music H&O are 100%real genuine talent not some marketing mock up that's yick
They always give a great performance
Awesome bass!
Daryl is of course rocking out, GE is having a great time, John is a dancing madman (look at those ankles), but I wish they had shown more of T Bone. That being said, thank you so much for posting, great video!!
I know! I love it!
Unfreakinreal. Thanks for posting!
Beautiful scrumptious Daryl Hall.
Extremely entertaining.
This was the Apex of their awesome career! A few month later they took their break. They need to be in the HAll of fame already!!!!
Such energy, talent l.Such a fun time their so awesome
Power Performance.
Magnificent Music.
GREAT VIDEO!
Hall had exactly the same haircut I had in the eighties!!!
What do u expect...it WAS right smack dab in the middle of the 80's. 1986 If I remember correctly. Actually they were at the top of their game in fashion for the time.
THey've always had great music no matter what era.
Daryl rockin the 80's look and Mick Jagger at the same time. And the sax guy echos Clarence E Thomas to me. 🎉OMG John and Daryl were so young.
No shade to H&O who didn't sound like their studio cuts. Live is live and musicians do their thing. Fans wanted a show, not a studio cut.
This performance? Classic. You'd never get THIS on an album.
Thanks OP for posting this.
Good times. 😎
The power of the moustache makes him dance like that!
this will last with no dislikes!
Hit fun in the winter time!!
Great H&O!!!
Haha, yeah it is. You've gotta love it though. Hall & Oates are bad ass!
Thank you Dutchmazz for posting the entire concert!!!! I was there...right under the stage at Liberty Park, Jersey City. love it...
Spectacular!!!
wow no dislike, now theres a point i would live my life..
Damn, John has some moves on him!! Love it!!
you make my dreams come true :D great song
Charlie dechant on the sax go at the end of you make my dreams

Awesome!
Beutiful
Take it Eeeasssayy!
This took place the same day as Stranger Things season 3 hmmmmmmm 😀.
HAHA Sprinting Sax Solo. THE BEST.
@KRvideos1 they should definately be in R and R Hall of Fame!! Theyve had some good songs, for sure and are very talented:)
You're gonna be waiting a long time here in the West~
500 days of summer is good
Look at those hot little moves John used to have!!!!!!!
OMG!! You are so right.! I haven't seen this before. Tons of respect for Daryl Hall, but Oates totally
makes this video!
Jackie Rioux He looks like he's having such a fun time! Love it!
EPIC HAIR.
G.E. Smith !!!
Why aren't Hall and Oates in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet?
0.38 to 0.45 - best part, love those moves! lol
💕💕💕💕💕😘
Hall sounds like and look like a Axl Rose
More like Duff Mckagan
Daryl’s hair looks good throughout the whole concert.
That was the magic of hairspray in the 80s - straight up aerosol cans blew a hole in the ozone layer but you can't deny it held up hair like nothing else!
The rumour is that the hair was so exhausted after the tour, it had to take a 2-month break, resting in Hawaii, while Daryl went back to the recording studio,
Ah luvvs this LOL when I was in high school I gotta lot of flack for liking H&O cos I went to school with 2 types of ppl: u either liked Def Leppard or Duran Duran and I didn't "love" either so I got flack for liking H&O cos they weren't *cool*
White Wolverine o.o
nice live!!
@1012musicman1012 Why can't they both be awesome? Their a duo, after all. I smell fake fan...
@IntegraTron2010 Daryl nor John never did drugs...would they still be here still signing and touring? No. Plus they weren't that dumb. Don't be ignorant.
i hate it when any person or group doesn't sing the song the right way...like here
Not hating on the band, I love Hall and Oates and this song in particular, but if there was ever an example of a disconnect between band's recorded stuff and live, this is it. Just cant reproduce the same material live as they could in a studio.
You already know for sure that they were snorting hella shit before their shows💀😂
4:27 jeff daniels with glasses
Hall is definitely on acid here! ;P
Good performance! :D
since there was no red bull back then, I'm inclined to agree...LOL
They didnt do drugs.
David Gillespie it was a joke..... and I would not be surprised if they did do drugs. A lot of musicians take them because they say it makes them more creative.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I know three people who worked for Hall & Oates back in the 1980s, and they didn't do drugs. Hall has said in several interviews that while he smoked pot, he stayed away from anything heavy because he tends to have weird reactions to drugs and he was afraid of having a bad reaction. I also heard that one of the reasons Hall & Oates didn't do any projects with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks after LiveAid was because Ruffin wouldn't stop using, so Hall dropped him. The Temptations were Hall's idols, so he had to be pretty anti-drug to cut Ruffin off.
Texas Tabby Yes. I wasn’t saying that they absolutely DID do drugs. I just wouldn’t be surprised if they did. Like I said many musicians do because they say it makes them more creative. Thanks for sharing though!
Ahh, when coke was actually in Coke®️. Good times😎
@RainMan68 I agree...i guess ignorance is bliss...
4:15
His voice is hoarse as hell.
Tbone on bass, Daryl on coke.
Nope. Not even a chance.
Now thats a fuckin' mustache!
Kristopher Pinette 🤣🤣🤣😂🤣😂😅😅 too funny!!!!
@ElectricSwag cos ppl from Cincinnati don't know from music!!!
Always hated when singers rushed their songs at concerts. Such a disrespect to the fans.
maverickjohn923 you have it backwards, my friend. the songs are slowed down for the studio albums...to make them more precise and crisp. the songs in concert...thats the way they were written to be. I give you Kiss, and their albums versus their live songs.
maverickjohn923 not time!!! I love this energy.. especially for a live concert. I’m a fan too. How many thousands in the audience? They do not look offended, They look like they were having a blast. Wish I could have been there😟
They didn’t rush it to much. The song they wrote is 3:12 long, but this live concert was 4:22 long
Daryl looking like Mufasa
That was a bit underwhelming
