I'm 50% Shanghainese & 50% Cantonese. To me, I'm actually more Shanghainese & my Cantonese side is non-existent. Mostly because I was raised in a Shanghainese household. Also, me & my mom don't like my dad's side of the family (Cantonese) for certain reasons so we cut ties/connections with his side of the family completely. My dad is fine, just his whole entire family isn't, to us. That is why I don't consider myself Cantonese at all, just Shanghainese. Both me & my mom don't even like my last name. I just use it for identification purposes & for legal reasons. Otherwise I would usually just introduce myself using my first name most of the time or actually maybe half the time. It depends on the situation really. (I have nothing really against Cantonese speaking people in general though.)(BTW, none of my family is from Hong Kong. Just adding that in there.)
