For me, the needle placement really affects the level of anxiety I feel when getting jabbed with a needle. If the needle goes into my upper arm, it's barely anything, but if it goes into a vein right below where the arm opens at the elbow, then my anxiety dials up to 11.

I've got one similar to the airplane thing. When I was a child my mom used to have her friend from Georgia visit, and this friend would sometimes bring her kids along. Her kids were about the same age as my sister and I, so we were cool with having someone to hang out with. One day, as we were all in the car driving to some place I don't remember, the girl my age points to something out the window and shouts, "Here comes the cemetery! Don't breathe or else the ghosts will get into your body and steal your soul!" Obviously I knew she was joking, but I played along anyway. For as long as she was over, every time we passed by a cemetery we would give each other knowing glances and then hold our breath for as long as we could until we had passed the cemetery. We would absolutely refuse to breathe until the last headstone was behind the car... Even well beyond the point where we were starting to get uncomfortable. You would think that after all these years, especially given the fact that I haven't talked to her in so long, I would have stopped by now but no. So yes, as an adult, every time I see a cemetery approaching while in a vehicle of some kind, I have to persuade myself to KEEP BREATHING. edit: Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that this includes pictures of cemeteries and graveyards, too! Even just pictures of headstones in the ground.
Sometimes, when I was sure I was about to pass out, I would duck into my collar and take a quick breath from inside of my shirt. That, or I would turn away from the direction of the cemetery and take a breath just big enough to sustain me until we reached the edge of the cemetery. I always tried to do this inconspicuously, as I knew my parents would be like ???? if they caught onto the fact that I wasn't breathing properly. Keep in mind that I would do this even as a teenager while sitting in the front passenger seat of the car. Either I'm a ninja master or my parents were too polite to say anything. They know now, though, that I used to do this. I joke about it often, but the urge to not breathe still comes to me every time I see a cemetery.

I've got one similar to the airplane thing. When I was a child my mom used to have her friend from Georgia visit, and this friend would sometimes bring her kids along. Her kids were about the same age as my sister and I, so we were cool with having someone to hang out with. One day, as we were all in the car driving to some place I don't remember, the girl my age points to something out the window and shouts, "Here comes the cemetery! Don't breathe or else the ghosts will get into your body and steal your soul!"
Obviously I knew she was joking, but I played along anyway. For as long as she was over, every time we passed by a cemetery we would give each other knowing glances and then hold our breath for as long as we could until we had passed the cemetery. We would absolutely refuse to breathe until the last headstone was behind the car... Even well beyond the point where we were starting to get uncomfortable. You would think that after all these years, especially given the fact that I haven't talked to her in so long, I would have stopped by now but no.
So yes, as an adult, every time I see a cemetery approaching while in a vehicle of some kind, I have to persuade myself to KEEP BREATHING.
edit: Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that this includes pictures of cemeteries and graveyards, too! Even just pictures of headstones in the ground.
On a class trip to New York City, we drove past this HUGH cemetery! It must have been miles and miles!
You would have passed out for sure.
Sometimes, when I was sure I was about to pass out, I would duck into my collar and take a quick breath from inside of my shirt. That, or I would turn away from the direction of the cemetery and take a breath just big enough to sustain me until we reached the edge of the cemetery. I always tried to do this inconspicuously, as I knew my parents would be like ???? if they caught onto the fact that I wasn't breathing properly. Keep in mind that I would do this even as a teenager while sitting in the front passenger seat of the car. Either I'm a ninja master or my parents were too polite to say anything.
They know now, though, that I used to do this. I joke about it often, but the urge to not breathe still comes to me every time I see a cemetery.
