    good video, i bought asus BW-16D1HT from my local store and i will flash rom myself, i hope everything will go well :)
    EDIT: I just think there is a bit too much scaremongering in this video, i got just couple of months old drive(manufacture date) and didnt have any issues flashing it to libredrive. That dude basically sells at 2x price what is essentially 10min procedure and if prepared under 10 secs.

    • @h1tzzYT

      Just a quick update, got my 16D1HT, it was manufactured in march, 2021. It had 3.10 firmware version and with "SDFtool flasher" and custom MK firmware downloaded from make MKV forums, i flashed it in less than 10 seconds. Everything works fine, its fully libredrive now. Very happy :)

    • @TheN3tw0rq
      @TheN3tw0rq  3 года назад +2

      Not fearmongering, I just don't want to be responsible for people bricking their drives. I've had great success buying several drives from the person in question and was very happy with the results, so I shared my experience. I was informed through digging through forums, etc. that Asus is making it so newer drives can't be "downgraded" on firmware so you have to get drives with the right firmware/date code. Whether or not they stopped this practice I'm unaware of.

    • @alexcoluzzi
      @alexcoluzzi 2 года назад +13

      2X the price i think not. And once the drive has been flashed I spend another two hours ripping a 4K UHD blu ray, 1080p blu ray and a DVD with the drive to ensure it works properly for the end user.

    • @h1tzzYT
      @h1tzzYT 2 года назад +2

      @@alexcoluzzi well it depends on the region, im in EU and from my local pricing assuming that these prices in the video exclude shipping costs, its pretty much 2x price for me if ordering from this guy, locally i can get brand new BW-16D1HT for 70€ + 2.5€ shipping cost to my doorstep. From this guy $133 + 20-35$ shipping cost = ~155$ aka 138€, double the cost.

    • @h1tzzYT
      @h1tzzYT 2 года назад +2

      @@TheN3tw0rq since this post has been slightly resurrected by other guy i just wanted to say that saying clear blank statements like in 5:43 that all models that are newer than 2019\2020 cant be flashed due to manufacturer efforts has been clearly debunked at least from my example. Look i have nothing against that guy hustle but you could at least give disclaimer that it may not be completely true and do your own research or something along those lines, im sure it was not your intention but with what you said in the video its slightly misleading. Just my two cents.

      I'm not sure, but there is an easier way, MakeMKV has a backup functionality that outputs a BDMV directory with all the BlueRay contents, if you want you can ask MaskeMKV to decrypt videos.
      It doesn't output an ISO file, but you can make one from the directory it creates if you want. This is actually a great way of doing it.
      I usually buy my BlueRays, rip and decrypt them using MakeMKV and then play them with VLC, if VLC complains then I just use MakeMKV again and make an actual MKV file.

TBH, it's not really that hard, the instructions I saw made it seem super complicatd, but it was just a matter of downloading the appropriate flasher and an appropriate firmware and flashing it. I even screwed it up the first try by not checking the button to encrypt the firmware and I was still able to just do it a second time and get it working.
      I wound up needing to cross flash due to timeouts with the "proper" firmware. But, that was pretty quick to figure and and do, now the process is working nice and smoothly without any scary noises from the drive.

    This is a bad thumbnail… drawing even more attention from MPAA isn’t a great idea.

    Now Alex is taking people money and not shipping items. Glad I patched my own drive.

      Me and my brother have both bought from him multiple times and he was always prompt to reply to our e-mails and shipping the drive out took about 1-2 weeks. He was highly regarded on the MakeMKV forums and I wouldn't have recommended him otherwise. I am not in the business to promote scams. I would suggest sending him a follow-up e-mail regarding your order, he may be overloaded and has to catch up on orders. I have only seen one other comment on here about Alex not shipping their order, and claiming I'm a scam?!! The commenter deleted their comment before I had a chance to reply to it. So I'm not sure if that was just a troll, or if their issue was resolved... If I see any more comment suggesting such, I will contact Alex myself personally and see what's going on.

      @@TheN3tw0rq I purchased 2 drives from the store and patched them myself. It's really not hard if you know how to read and understand. I am very computer savvy.

      @Lester Crest Yeah I finally got a tracking number about a week ago but it's just been sitting on "USPS Awaiting Item" since then so I've been trying to figure out what's going on
