    Most underrated feature for me in the dust protection. In every camera review video there is noticeable dust on black bodies - and then most of them place the camera on its back without a lens and talk about it for several minutes. It makes me want to scream.

    Got EOS R, a week ago. Enjoying it. My only complain is, that the camera isn’t snappy enough. Face and eye AF, EVF-screen switching, image review after shot, all have a little delay.
    I sold my 5D III, to get EOS R and I am glad I did so. Especially AF accuracy, is what makes me smile. I hated my 5D, for so many out of focus photos.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  5 лет назад +3

      Ive never really noticed it being slow. I guess I find it decent and comparable to most cameras but slower than the once I find to be extra snappy. My Leica CL comes to mind as one of the faster cameras Ive used.

    • @wickie4801
      @wickie4801 5 лет назад +1

      I agree. If you ever had a Sony realtime eye autofocus - everything else is slower. I´m not a fanboy of Sony. Having some other cameras of other companies. Sony do have other weaknesses. But if you are concentrating on focus - this is the best at the time, really.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  5 лет назад +1

      @@wickie4801 I have no complaints about the focus on the R. It's very fast. Never use eye focus so I can't comment on that.

    • @anthonyc1883
      @anthonyc1883 4 года назад

      @@gearreallydoesntmatter When you say that the R's focus is very fast, are you referring only to acquisition speed? Because the huge test of AF is how fast it captures subjects moving all around, and not in just a gentle, straight line walking toward the camera like so many reviewers test (not saying you are one of these reviewers). I'm a news and events shooter and I've tired the A7III and the R. The Sony's AF was moving all over the viewfinder, edge-to-edge and top-to-bottom, nailing everything. The R didn't do as well and it belonged to a fellow news photographer who had the firmware update done and knew how to dial in the AF for best performance.

      Hi Mark, I’m a stills shooter only. Originally had the A7iii for 16 months but didn’t like the ergonomics of the camera so traded it for the z6. Initial honeymoon joy soon changed when I realised the native glass selection was dire and the auto focus performance worse than a 5 year old entry level dslr. No consumer zooms etc, so I tried out the EOS R with the 24-105 and 35 f1.8 lenses and wow, it meets expectations in terms of glass, and is far superior to the z6 in autofocus performance. General and eye tracking etc. More rounded camera. Better ergonomics.

    • @markshirley01
      @markshirley01 5 лет назад +2

      @@roboHare73 thanks that's very helpful - I think the R will be my choice and I'll be moving from Nikon to Canon. My only concern is the dynamic range on the R - l looked up a comparison between the R and my D750 - the Nikon has nearly a stop more DR and it's a 4½ year old camera. It's a concern as there are jobs I use every ounce of DR at my disposal.

    I switched many month ago from 5dm3. I have to tell You, when I came back from first holidays in Gran Canaria done with EOS R - I was really shocked. The sharpnes and image quality is really totally superior to 5dm3. Recently started to do first videos - quality is incredible, perfect and vivid colours right from the box. And the sharpnes is on a different level nothing to compare with my old camera. I really doubt if I will have to use C-LOG the picture is so beautyful. However there are two issues first of all the CROP. Looks like another 2.500 EUR investment into canon RF wide lens to use them for 4K shooting. Then if I remember well there is no 4k60P. No 4k60P in 2020 is really a bad joke, but considering the picture it delivers, I am still 100% happy.

    Hi, what do you think regarding video quality when considering moving from 5d3 ML Raw to Eos R. I loose 14bit Raw and get 8bit internal instead. Autofocus, especially head and eyefocus looks very tempting. Extra stabilisation is also nice. I am I going to regret loosing raw colours? How do you find sharpness (seen 10bit external is better than 8bit internal but that’s expensive and cumbersome for personal use). Is 4K crop 1.7 plus crop in post to 1080 making it similar to ML zoom feature. ML is 3x, Eos r 4K would be 4x? I’m shooting for personal use, often spontaneous and focusing on fast moving kids is not easy in manual focus. Though I mastered raw post processing and is no problem for me (workflow, cards, storage, computer). Can’t see any comparisons with raw online. Please help.

      There is no extra crop, it's x1.7 only. I would download some clips and try editing to see what it's like.

      Mattias Burling 5d3 is center crop. I meant 1.7 x 2 as 1080 center part from 4K. I picked R on Black Friday deals. Tried AF is the store and looked awesome. I’ll play side by side and see.

    What about the "color science"? I heard that they changed it on the R cameras? I tested the Canon M6 (which had beautiful colors) and the M6 Mark II (which had boring and dull colors), don't hope its the same with the R cameras

    Hey Mattias!
    I have a question for you, have you ever used/owned Nikon 58/1.4G? It's a very special lens, thats probably as underrated as it gets right now (mostly because it was very expensive and not technically perfect when it came out). I thought it might be a good subject for you review, because it definitely suit your style ;)

    Very nice review. I also have my EOS R for more than a year now since I preordered it. However, I still couldn't use RAW shots, and got the DNG software failed to download. May I know your editing software for your CR3? Thanks!

    Mattias, great video as alway. i like the camera but the native lenses are super expensive. im looking to get in a new system and i know that the first lens will be my favorite focal length, the 35mm. which one would you suggest ? canon eos r/rp with 35mm 1.8, fuji xt-3 with 23 1.4 or canon eos 6d2 with 35 1.4l ( old version) ?

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  5 лет назад +1

      The R and RP both support EF glass with native performance. You won't find a more affordable lens line than that.

    • @georgioszisis491
      @georgioszisis491 5 лет назад

      the problem is tha you lose the reason to have a mirorrless when you habe so big lenses. id love a camera with small bright prrimes that dont cost a fortune and dont weight 1kg.. thats the only thing that bothers me on canon otherwise they are excelent

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  5 лет назад

      @@georgioszisis491 Mirrorless lenses is only smaller if the sensor is smaller and/or the lens is slower. So no, you don't have a bigger system with EOS R + EF glass, it's the same size or smaller.

    I had to chose between Nkon Z6 and EOS R back in the day, and decided that Z6 was more photography kind of camera, always thought the Canon R was just a 5D without a mirror. But lenses came (canon always do it) and they are amazing, besides, canon also release new firmware updates with better AF stuff... I kinda regret going Nikon :(
