@@roboHare73 thanks that's very helpful - I think the R will be my choice and I'll be moving from Nikon to Canon. Well Mattias, I know a lot of your videos. The Canon is a Swiss knife in your hands. But you should try a Fuji XT 3 or XT 4 also, because it fits more to your personal taste of a smaller camera system. I ve got an XT 20, X - H1, XT - 4 and a Canon R. I just love them all !

I switched many month ago from 5dm3. I have to tell You, when I came back from first holidays in Gran Canaria done with EOS R - I was really shocked. The sharpnes and image quality is really totally superior to 5dm3. Recently started to do first videos - quality is incredible, perfect and vivid colours right from the box. And the sharpnes is on a different level nothing to compare with my old camera. I really doubt if I will have to use C-LOG the picture is so beautyful. Hi Mattias! Thanks a lot for the review with the nice Gunpowder pictures! Do you have the Canon RP, too? It features the sensor of the Canon 6D Mk. II. I’m very happy with that camera. You know Eos R was the first gen and usually second generation is better. Thanks in advance, keep safe🙏🏻
Hi, what do you think regarding video quality when considering moving from 5d3 ML Raw to Eos R. I loose 14bit Raw and get 8bit internal instead. Autofocus, especially head and eyefocus looks very tempting. Extra stabilisation is also nice. I am I going to regret loosing raw colours? How do you find sharpness (seen 10bit external is better than 8bit internal but that’s expensive and cumbersome for personal use). Is 4K crop 1.7 plus crop in post to 1080 making it similar to ML zoom feature. ML is 3x, Eos r 4K would be 4x? I’m shooting for personal use, often spontaneous and focusing on fast moving kids is not easy in manual focus. Though I mastered raw post processing and is no problem for me (workflow, cards, storage, computer). Can’t see any comparisons with raw online. Please help.
Mattias Burling 5d3 is center crop. I meant 1.7 x 2 as 1080 center part from 4K. I picked R on Black Friday deals. Tried AF is the store and looked awesome. I’ll play side by side and see.
What about the "color science"? I heard that they changed it on the R cameras? I tested the Canon M6 (which had beautiful colors) and the M6 Mark II (which had boring and dull colors), don't hope its the same with the R cameras
Hey Mattias! I have a question for you, have you ever used/owned Nikon 58/1.4G? It's a very special lens, thats probably as underrated as it gets right now (mostly because it was very expensive and not technically perfect when it came out). I thought it might be a good subject for you review, because it definitely suit your style ;)
Very nice review. I also have my EOS R for more than a year now since I preordered it. However, I still couldn't use RAW shots, and got the DNG software failed to download. May I know your editing software for your CR3? Thanks!
Mattias, great video as alway. i like the camera but the native lenses are super expensive. im looking to get in a new system and i know that the first lens will be my favorite focal length, the 35mm. which one would you suggest ? canon eos r/rp with 35mm 1.8, fuji xt-3 with 23 1.4 or canon eos 6d2 with 35 1.4l ( old version) ?
the problem is tha you lose the reason to have a mirorrless when you habe so big lenses. id love a camera with small bright prrimes that dont cost a fortune and dont weight 1kg.. thats the only thing that bothers me on canon otherwise they are excelent

Congratulations for the 100k subs❤
What mount do you use to put on the film lenses?
Hi Mattias! Thanks a lot for the review with the nice Gunpowder pictures! Do you have the Canon RP, too? It features the sensor of the Canon 6D Mk. II. I’m very happy with that camera. When traveling to my daughter in Austria, I use it with both my Canon EF 2.0/35mm USM IS and Canon EF 2.0/100mm USM lenses, which are very affordable and the control ring mount adapter. Best wishes, Ralf
Hello Ralf,
No I haven't used it yet. But I will as soon as I see a cheap one in a used add. It will happen sooner or later :)
Hi, Mattias
Thanks for all reviews and usefull videos🙏🏻
I have been using mostly fujifilm gears and i am so happy for still altough i would like to have an other system for videos with great autofocus and image quality.I ll be using it filming my tattoos and mainly my twin🤣
So i was thinking to go for Canon Eos R but i heard news about new cameras such as R5 and R6 , so as i always trust your opinion my question is ;
Do you think is it worth to wait for R5-R6 or should i go for Eos R straight away?
There is no extra crop, it's x1.7 only. I would download some clips and try editing to see what it's like.
Watch my initial, review, I believe I mentioned there.
Hi, just out of curiousity, what do you shoot professionally?
Hey Mattias!
I have a question for you, have you ever used/owned Nikon 58/1.4G? It's a very special lens, thats probably as underrated as it gets right now (mostly because it was very expensive and not technically perfect when it came out). I thought it might be a good subject for you review, because it definitely suit your style ;)
Very nice review. I also have my EOS R for more than a year now since I preordered it. However, I still couldn't use RAW shots, and got the DNG software failed to download. May I know your editing software for your CR3? Thanks!
Lightroom.
Have you tried the RP? Its the 6D ii sensor
Great video as always. Thanks.
The R and RP both support EF glass with native performance. You won't find a more affordable lens line than that.
the problem is tha you lose the reason to have a mirorrless when you habe so big lenses. id love a camera with small bright prrimes that dont cost a fortune and dont weight 1kg.. thats the only thing that bothers me on canon otherwise they are excelent
@@georgioszisis491 Mirrorless lenses is only smaller if the sensor is smaller and/or the lens is slower. So no, you don't have a bigger system with EOS R + EF glass, it's the same size or smaller.
I'm also very happy about my choice! Love my EOS R :-)
Always a sane, well balanced personal view. May the sun shine for you in your Swedish winter (but please, still convert to BW)... :)
I want the 50 or 85 RF so bad, but sooo pricy and having shot with the EF version I'm not sure there is enough difference. I love the R more than most camera's I've owned. I also shoot Sony and Olympus.
I would buy the EF versions and the control ringed adapter.
Hi Mattias, does the digital image stabilistation crop affect the resolution and video quality in the same way as it does on the 6dmk2, I've read about but can't find much regarding this thanks!!
It crops but such a tiny bit that it's totally negligible.
BTW, in the "best image quality" video you told you preferred the EOS 6D mkII to the EOS R (but you keep the second because of other reasons). can you please tell us what you think is changed between the two image processing system?
Thanks
compared this and x pro 3, which one is better and got sharper image?
Sharpness depends in the lens you use not the camera. The rest is just personal taste.
Wow you know what I am the second person watching this video and I just love that.
I guess I was first :)
How does it compare with the Nikon DF in terms of image quality? I know the DF is a bit dated, but I love that camera. The EOS R has me curious though.
ruclips.net/video/lvikcsSYmB8/видео.html
Soooo... You like the DF better? 🙃
The image quality yes. But I use an EOS R for all my pro work with no intention to switch. Because sadly the perfect camera doesn't exist :)
I'm picking up what you're putting down. 😉
Thank you Sqarespace, I watched until the end ;) ;)
Hey Mattias have you shot any medium format film?
Yes, lots of it. It appears in a couple of my videos as well.
I am very curious to see you trying the Sigma fp... I think it's a very underestimated camera for stills ! Great colors and compact size, you could like it... 😉
No mechanical shutter is the deal breaker for pro use and I'm not really looking for a new recreation camera right now. But I'm sure it's great.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter The big downside is the flash sync at 1/30s max...
I didn't mean that you should buy it for pro work or else, just try it... To me, it looks like a full frame Ricoh GR on many aspects (but maybe it's just me). That's why your opinion on it can be interesting to have !
Yes, but to try it I must first buy it. Playing with it in a store isn't enough imo to form an opinion.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I was more thinking about renting. But except maybe in the US, I think it's not that easy... and cost money too.
I had to chose between Nkon Z6 and EOS R back in the day, and decided that Z6 was more photography kind of camera, always thought the Canon R was just a 5D without a mirror. But lenses came (canon always do it) and they are amazing, besides, canon also release new firmware updates with better AF stuff... I kinda regret going Nikon :(
I think, if you want medium tier glas, Nikon is currently better. Compact, super sharp and well priced. Not everybody can afford a 2k lens.
I've had my EOS R for about six months and love it! Ergonomics and photos quality is top notch. Has anybody had any trouble with the shutter assembly? About two month's in the camera stopped working and had to be sent in to replace the shutter.
Why do I want one this week???
Matias what is your normal job - profession?
I know it's all personal preference but I do prefer this over the A7III..
Hello, thanks for your videos. I'm thinking to upgrade my canon m50, I'm between eos r and xt3 or xt4. I do portraits and kids action and need better low light performance than that of m50.
Thanks in advance
Mattias, any thoughts on the xf-10? Thanks! 🙂
I have a video on my channel.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter yeah, but are you going to make a review on the xf-10 alone, like you said? :) but if not, it's fine.
👑
another good review and of course plenty of spotlight on the star of the show gunpowder 😂
No regrets using adapter with nd filter built in.
Faithful is my favourite profile too :)
What about the battery life? I hope it ist not that Sony bad. ^^
Its good in my experience.
Mattias Burling Thanks for your answer.
Would you recommend the Canon RP?
I haven't used it so I can't say. But to me it seems like a very good camera for the money.
Watch Andy Tran review on the RP.
Q: Still happy? A: Yes!
eos r or eos r6?
Having sold the R now, are you looking at all at any of the other current models from the other brands? I had thought a few of the new Leicas might be interesting to you.
I've already bought a Leica CL.
You keep saying "Natural" picture profile. Do you mean "Neutral"?
I too was curious about this :)
