5:56 "this is not a good idea"...lol. How many time have I said that? Well done Andrew, another masterclass.
I was surprised it handled it so well
Listen to the joy in his Voice.
I still love how exciting you find each new flight. Even though you've done it a 1000 times over each flight you make sound like your first. Fantastic mate, and thankyou.
Always find the maiden flight fun
Bravo! Your re-re-maidens always turn out brilliant! and seeing even the pros can forget to plug in the battery. Thx for sharing it all. Cheers!
So glad it didn't go over the fence into the demolition site
That flew fantastic! Well done
the floppy wing testing in the howling wind was very amusing to watch. the fact that you modded it, but still accidentally “chucked-it” with the battery disconnected was ironic/hysterical
Oh yes, I regretted not doing a chuck test first but I guess it happened.
Have not seen you have that much fun all winter. Spring is near and you will be hot!
Simplest things are the most fun.
Full disclosure: a colleague of mine from work is addicted to these Chinese chuck glider RC conversions. He's somehow talked me into building one. I'll be doing a rudder, fullspan flaperons and a Madstab... hope to have a video in the next couple weeks (we're waiting on delivery). Thanks for the cool video, your enthusiasm is so great.
Oh yes, it's crying out for more radical control.
Andrew,
You have introduced us to some very good music. Thanks.
Joe
Thanks Joe, it's all on the RUclips Audio Library. Takes some searching but there are gems on there.
Really cool Andrew. So beautufull vídeo. Thanks for sharing.
You are the master Andrew!
Andrew, you’re always amazing me with your ingenuity and skill. Another great video!
Thanks Mike, but this is quite straight forward.
Great project Andrew. Those added spars sure helped. A little more stick time and this thing will really show its stuff.
Fun ride as always Andrew, thank you!
Tip. If you cut a narrow V from the centre of the horizontal stabiliser you can line up and cut out the existing elevator markings.
That would work too
Great conversion Andrew, the carbon stiffeners transformed it...A bit more ballast on the CG...make a hole you can fill with lead shot perhaps, so you can adjust to conditions...?..Good job that man...lol.
I'm so glad to see you do a video on this glider. I believe it was in the back of your car when you flew the eagle the other video. Awesome cool I love flight still learning...
Lots of fun ahead for you
Those wings were flexing with that wind but you soon fixed that 🙂👍
Ha ha very nice. Was nice to see the progression from start to finish as you improved it with each step. It looks like the last thing to do is add a tiny bit more weight and a rudder and that will be it. On a very calm day with thermals out on your flying field would be interesting to see how it thermals after removing a little weight and towing it up with another glider. Now that might be fun to try. LOL.. Happy Flying
Yes, rudder and more throws will make it very acrobatic
Dammit, Everytime I see one of your product videos I have to stop myself. I'm slope soaring this weekend at the beach... can't wait!
Slope on dude
Awesome I need to build one now
Great video, really nice find. I cant get lidle planes here either. $13 is great. Those bendy wings make it look like a full scale glider.
Great review! You made me buy one!
oops
Dan Jacob I think I’m also going to buy one hahaha
Danggg Andrew, I Laughed Hard & Got A Smile S@@ Big On My Face My Cheeks Hurt!!! LOL Your The King Of Quicky Mod Planes!!! Thanks Mate
Great vid Drew, I really enjoyed the how well the chuck glider performed. I & I'm sure others are hoping you put a detailed build on Newton Airlines or Newton Airlines Uncut for this cheap & cheerful slope soarer build.
Haha, Your not alone, I forgot to plug the battery in my edf skywalker falcon just before I launched it off with a bungee strap, I was not as lucky as yourself, my edf was destroyed, I put the motor in another edf housing and tried again , this time with the battery plugged in worked great!!
We can be dumb sometimes.
That flies amazing! I used the same glider but did a pitcheron set-up but it seems to tip stall easily as long as it's pointed into the wind it's fine but soon as you bank it death dives! Lol! I will follow your build on the next one. Enjoy!
The scale is like flying in a Cat 5 Hurricane.
But another super video.
Cheers
It was up for the challenge
beautiful thank you !
Cool as I have bought 3 off them .
Excellent, have fun
OK! That looks like fun thanks for the idea
Well done! tons of fun for pennies on the dollar..:)
Cheap clean fun
now.. im getting one.. for me.. cool mod.. luv it..
Wow! That is so amazing! 😃😃😃
Awesome as usual
Superb as ever!
Very nice RC Conversion on that Chuck Glider! An excellent sloper ;-) See you in the Air!
It worked out so well
really very good job
Thank you! Cheers!
Makes me wish I had a slope nearby. Good fun and great job on the clean build!
Flying on the slope is an entirely different experience to flying in the park.
Love it!
I'll share this video over on the FB group for those late to the party if that's ok. You could try full span ailerons and still retain the dihedral by linking them together via a thin rod sliding in a tube.
Yes go ahead. Will definitely try bigger control surfaces.
Awesome. I will probably get one
Ordered one for me and my daughter.
Your wife might need one too
@@AndrewNewton some for the cat as well?
Haha, something to chew on
Awesome, just got mine delivered, gona get those servo and start converting into RC
Excellent, it's a fun project
Forgot to plug in the battery
😂
Excitment level: infinite
Haha, yes indeed
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The Carbon did a little Miracle to this fine Plane, much more controllable than without the Reinforcement, do You some Stiffening into the Fuselage, because the Tailsection appeares to be quiet Soft? Looking forward for some Onbord views, great Work again 👍🏻Video 👍🏻.
Andrew ........ well done ...... thanks to this, I'm off to the slopes ;-)
Good to hear
I'm gonna do this when I get home. Great for when I'm hang-waiting.
Hang-waiting...says it all
Great video - Thank You!
Wow! Great video. I've been eyeballing that model for some time now. Missed out when they were $8/each. Maybe I should snag a couple in case they decide to jack the price again. I was worried they were too soft but that little spar did the trick just fine.
They are flexy but tough
@@AndrewNewton oh yeah, I've handed out countless EPP gliders to kids around here precisely because they're almost indestructible. Doesn't hurt that they glide well. I've done a couple mods now but I really need to get some of these bigger ones.

Fabulous!
Nice, nice, nice!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
6:46 Look at it flap its little wings! :D
Awesome little chuckie. Lidl does not exist at all where I'm from, so after converting one of the ubiquitous 50cm gliders I've been looking for a big EPP chuck glider to turn into a sloper for ages. Couldn't find anything larger on the chinese sites at all, for some reason. Soo, after a long time searching, I finally find an 850mm one locally, go to another city to get it (it was the last one) and now you post this :}
Guess I'm gonna have two, then.
One question on the conversion though: The glider I've got has a good amount of polyhedral, and I noticed this one has some too. How do you deal with the polyhedral for your ailerons/flaperons, given that they should extend as far as possible (inwards as well if flaperons), while extending one over a bend in the wing would make it resist flexing in the hinge?
My ailerons dont cross the polyhedral angle. Might have to flatten out the wing with a spar or cutting and regluing
Great ,tnx
Wow, great video. Thanks you’re the man!
Your the man too Jim
Beautiful.
No motor, one washer is enough :-)
Even more weight would be fun too
For this price is unbeatable !!! If you want to put a motor on this plane do you think 2205 will be a good choice ?Or even 1306 ....
Any small motor will work
Good times
nice one
Well done Mr Newton. I bought one straight up. Plan to put a motor on it
Excellent, share the results
@@AndrewNewton will do. Takes me a long time. I think I enjoy building more than fixing. Still haven't flown my 1200mm t-28 that's over 3yo. Have a bixler 1.1 with inav that ready to maiden plus another unbowed t-28. My missus is starting to hate it
@@AndrewNewton unboxed
Sorry typo
Needs a wing rod mate. Lovely plane.
Hi Andrew, I follow you from Italy and I appreciate all your videos and I find them fantastic! I am waiting for my first Blixer 1.1 glider to arrive and I hope to learn to fly with the same grace as you. I am very struck by your calm and joy of flight for every plane you try.
Now I wanted to build myself a Chuck Glider, but with the engine. Can I ask you for advice? Engine BR1811-2000KV, folding propellers Gartt 6030, lipo 2S 550mha, servo 9gr, can they be good for this glider or are they excessive? Thanks Sir.
Thanks Mr Zino. Yes I think that gear would be good. Wings need spars or laminating for stiffness.
Brilliant mate.
You did a great job flying the Chuckeetah first time in that Cyclone.
The stiffening of the wings made such a difference though, looked more controlled.
For 20 bucks it would be a good Slope Soring Trainer???
Well done..
Chuckeetah! Clever.
the cg based off the model when i chuck it, is pretty far back, not 1/3 like i would expect. When you have a minute could you let me know what cg you ended up happy with? thank you.
Just checked mine and its probably 40% or further back
@@AndrewNewton thanks, I guess they way it comes is correct.
They two I ordered are finally at the local post office
Excellent, needs a spar but it's a sweet little sloper
Great glider! Good job! Can you please tell me what exponential and dual rate settings do you use?
No rates and expo for this glider, but I usually start with 30% expo and 100% rate
Just checked out the cost and it is cheap and deals if you buy more than one.
Packs of 3 would be a good idea
Was just thinking you could make it into a cheap, 'lite' version Le Fish for aerobatrix, and you stated that as an option yourself.
That would definitely be interesting for light wind days.
;-D
The mod is done Jo, just waiting on weather. Extended the ailerons and added elevator area. Really looking forward to testing it.
Just ordered 2. One for a good breeze, and I'll try to set up a "Lite" version for aerobatrixs on the slope.
🙌✈😍
Do you always use a BEC to power your Receiver? I'm trying to build a DLG and can't figure out how to power the receiver and keep the weight down. (The internet is letting me down this time)
Yes I use a 2S Lipo and BEC.
Cool! How did you connect both sides of the elevator ? Just a piece of wire ?
Yes, pushrod wire bent in a U shape
@@AndrewNewton I never saw it done that way. Seems obvious once you see it though. Another tool added to the bag.
Hi Andrew,
I ordered this glider to power it with a front engine.
The center of gravity is 2/3 as a glider and when it will be motorized the center of gravity
must be where? 2/3 seems a lot to me, I thought I would place it at 1/3
Yes I would test at 1/3 first
@@AndrewNewton Thank you very much from France👍👍👍
Neat! What is your opinion of wingerons on these planes? Would it be possible to eliminate the elevator using them? THX.
Certainly works with the LIDL, might be more difficult to build with this one because the wing is slimmer
Flexi fest ha ha I am stealing that one :)
Ha, use it well James.
What size was those carbon strips ? I need to order some not sure what to
3mm x 0.5mm
I bought one of these a couple of months ago when they first showed up on BG. Sadly it turned up in a plastic bag horribly mangled.
You can flatten it out manually and let it set like that, or apply some gentle heat (like hot water) and it should go back to proper shape on its own.
which BEC did you use? Also did you plug in the BEC servo cable into the channel 1 connector?
This BEC hobbyking.com/en_us/5v-5a-ubec-2-5s-lipoly-7-2-21v.html plugged in to ch3
mine came today they increase the price by 3 us dollars !wondering how it flies in slow wind
Will find out as soon as the conditions allow
Beautiful conversion! The question is how did you linked both sides of the elevator?
Red?
Or green if you're colour blind?
Is it sub 250g? And what do you think of the new casa rules?
Two thumbs down
Andrew Newton yes I agree :(
I have that exact glider lol
Looks ugly now due to rc conversion attempt lol
For me the ball bearings werent enough to balance it as a chuck glider, stays tailheavy
I think mine was to initially.
thanks for making me spend more....
Any time

No problem Sandy. I'll use this as an opportunity to make a video in my new house. Will be available in about an hour.
