So the point with Romi and Michelle and Never Been Kissed is that they were supposed to look awkward. They are the outcasts.
The dress in Footloose is a prom dress for the 80s. Andie's dress in Pretty in Pink was even a disaster IN the 80s.
I saw it in the theater. As someone who was already very much into vintage, I actually yelled, "She cut up Annie Potts' vintage dress for THAT?!" when Molly Ringwald came out in that dress. It still gives me nightmares.

Romy and Michelle's outfits were a very big part of the point the film was making. The film rocks because it's about being true to your self and the value of friendship.

I knew Carrie's dress would be on the list. It is timeless. Everybody hated Andy's dress, at that time and every moment since then.

Andie was supposedly a very "Fashion Forward" Girl, but she ruined two perfectly nice dresses to create what resembled a hideous pink potato sack. Not to mention, one of those gowns belonged to her friend and manager. Even Molly Ringwald herself disliked the "timeless" dress.

I was born in 1972 and saw "Pretty in Pink" in the theater. Even then, her dress was shockingly bad. I remember thinking "she tore up a vintage dress to make THAT?"

While I agree with most of this list - I wouldn't recommend taking movies from the last few years as example. You say now Emma and Alyssa's looks are "classic" but the movie is from 2020, so in ten years we might consider them hopelessly outdated and "very 20s".

As much as I liked Rachel Leigh Cook's dress in She's All That, I LOVED the silver halter dress that Taylor wore. OK, so I clearly can't remember RLC's character's name (wait, is it Katie??) nor can I remember the mean girl Taylor's real name! Dang it

The actress playing Taylor was Jodi Lyn O’Keefe. I loved Laneys dress and wore a very similar one to homecoming but I agree, Taylor’s was a little better

I wasn't a big fan of Bianca's dress back in the 90s, but now for some reason, I dig.
I loved Rachel Leigh Cook's dress, in She's All That. It was very beautiful and elegant. She definitely had class. I hated Molly Ringwald's dress, in Pretty in Pink, but clearly, it wasn't her first choice, either. There was nothing "timeless" about it. It just kind of hung there on her, like a sack. Ariel's dress in Footloose didn't age well. And neither did Romy and Michelle's Madonna-inspired dresses. But the dresses they wore to their high school reunion looked awesome! Drew Barrymore's shiny prom dress in Never Been Kissed was horrible! But I loved the Shakespeare-inspired dress she wore, at the end of the movie.

I just want to say it is WILD that "10 Things I Hate About You" cast Gabrielle Union as a high school sophomore. While she does look quite young, she was twenty-four, the only high school cast member who was in their twenties and not high school-aged. Larissa, Joseph, and Julia were 17, and Heath and Andrew were 18.
Pretty in Pink was an iconic movie, but I never liked her clothes, even though I was a teen in the 80s

Sorry but number 3 should be reversed. Bianca’s dress was fun and bucked the late 90s trend and Kats was plain and boring conformist to the late 90s prom trend
