  • In the Navy, Chiefs act as a bridge between the officer and enlisted sides. They have the expertise to get the job done at the deckplate level. Seaman Andrew Dean has the story of one Senior Chief who took his enlisted expertise to the officer level and got commissioned as a Warrant Officer.

    So to explain going from senior chief to Warrant officer instead of Master chief, he was a Senior Chief in a technical field that didn’t HAVE slots for Master Chief....your only two paths for promotion is to qualify as a master chief outside of your limited technical field of specialty which requires to to go back and learn a different set of skills and leadership,or you advance in the officer side your your field of specific skills. And that field starts in the Warrant officer field first and from there either hitting a second and final ceiling at the highest rank of warrant officer, or making a third jump to a fully commissioned officer

    • @Impedancenetwork
      @Impedancenetwork 7 лет назад +2

      I have a degree and I was an enlisted E-4 in the USAF for 5 years. I did not respect "warrant officers", although the Air Force at the time did not have such a rank. To me warrant officers were officer want-to-be's. What they wanted was respect from enlisted and officers. I think they get neither. You aren't an officer and you aren't enlisted. You are in the little narrow strip of "no respect". After getting out of the military and getting my Electrical Engineering degree I even had more respect for officers than I did when I was in. Now I know how fucking hard it is to get a degree. I'm not talking about those who get a pussy degree like sociology or business degree. If you have a STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics degree) then you worked your ass off in college. I spent 5 years with my nose knee deep in differential equations and didn't see daylight for almost 5 years. That deserves respect. There are officers that are idiots but there are enlisted guys that are fucking bigger idiots.

    • @Impedancenetwork
      @Impedancenetwork 7 лет назад

      I was in from 1985 to 1990. So looks like I'm old as fuck. I never saw or knew anyone that knew a warrant officer. It's stupid to even have the rank. You want to be an officer go to college. You want to be a knuckle-dragger then go enlisted. Having something in the middle serves no useful purpose.
      The biggest idiots I ever met were enlisted. Some dumb-fuck cousin fucker from West Virginia in the chow hall serving me food. Or some dick-head driving a police car around base. These know nothing fucks needed to go get an education so bad but they didn't. For some reason they thought being ignorant was noble.
      I agree anyone can get a degree if it is a liberal arts degree but not everyone who wants to be a scientist or engineer makes it through their degree. 40% of the engineers in my first engineering class failed it. You only get to take a class twice and the engineering school forces you out of the school. So say bye-bye to engineering and hello so some useless degree like sociology or political science.

    • @tommyeli88
      @tommyeli88 7 лет назад +22

      Guy that's stupid statement. Warrant officers are the subject matter expert in their field. Professionals at their craft that's it taught to always know the answer but if you don't know immediately where to find it. They have the experience and knowledge to do what is necessary to carry out the mission. When you get a warrant officer you don't have to worry about having to teach them your job (like commissioned officers). When dealing with most Commissioned officers I felt at times I have a glorified private. Just because have a degree(book smart) does not make them fully capable of handling a job. Seen it happen time and time again. Warrant officers are highly respected and are constantly asked for their advice and recommendations(from LTC and above). Maybe you ancient and don't know how the military works now but you are way off buddy

    • @Impedancenetwork
      @Impedancenetwork 7 лет назад

      Well it's obvious that you lack skills in reading comprehension. I would bet you never stepped foot in college. I typically hear the word "book smart" from uneducated retards who want to claim that all knowledge is obtained "on the job."
      You said, "They have the experience and knowledge to do what is necessary to carry out the mission." I don't doubt that a bit. I was a subject matter expert on the maintenance and troubleshooting of tactical combat aircraft in the Air Force. I was asked constantly what I thought needed to be done to get a particular aircraft operational again. I did my job with professionalism and expert knowledge. I was also not so pretentious that I thought I "deserved" respect from lieutenants or Captains or whomever by obtaining this "fake" rank of "warrant officer". The military should stay away from any enlisted ranks that have word "officer" in them. This makes enlisted personnel feel better about themselves for not having been smart enough to go to college. It's like the military patting you on the head in a patronizing way saying, "ok johnny we know you're not smart enough to go to college but you're such as hard worker we are going to pretend you are an officer so that you can feel better about yourself and you can tell your friends and family that you ARE AN OFFICER." It is a patronizing rank. Be proud of being an enlisted guy if that is what you are. Don't accept this pretentious rank because you want to be better than the rest of the low class enlisted troops.
      You only have my respect based on your knowledge not your rank. You can be everything you stated in your statement and have the rank of Petty Officer, Seargent, etc. Everything I just said can be condensed into these couple sentences. If you want to be an officer go to college. The military doesn't need a "special" rank for people that think they are special. The military does a lot of stupid shit and has a shit-ton of stupid people in it. This is largely why I got out.

    • @tommyeli88
      @tommyeli88 7 лет назад +15

      lol...just finished my first degree last year so I guess I just meet that quota. I know you are alot older than me so I will try to respect my elders and not insult you too much lol. College don't make you smarter it makes you think differently. Just like any job you can have all the degrees in the world but when it comes down to it you got to have the experience. All I'm saying is that Warrant officers have that experience. Officers will have that experience but no time soon. And trust me I've been in joint commands not all officers gods as you claim them to be. You made alot of claims but have zero clue wtf you talking about. You making it sound as if I'm saying college isn't important. I think everyone should go to college but not everyone built that way. It's obvious you're either an idiot or been away too long from the military or both to know wth you're talking. Because believe it or not genius the need for warrant officers have been increasing over years. Someone from higher up is in dire need of them. And let's cut the shit I bet you left because you was just as wasted up as you are now. Just couldn't make the cut. Thank you for showing me that idiots are not just in the military.
