Hello sir, i had a question. If i want to sell leads on commission basis, what approachs can I take to make the arrangements successful and not get screwed? Like what should i say to the BO?
The main thing that sucks about selling leads (why I mostly don't do it) is 2 things: 1) People who need leads usually don't know how to sell the leads at a high rate (no good repeatable sales process), if they did, they wouldn't need your leads in the first place. As a result of this, they will tell you your leads suck, and might charge back their credit cards for leads you delivered to them, even though there was nothing at all wrong with the leads. 2) What's a lead? You can say every phone call that lasts 30 seconds or more is a lead, but that doesn't account for people accidentally calling them (thinking they were going to call a competitor), people asking for services they don't deliver, etc. so a lot of people will get pissed at you if you charge them for all calls over 30 seconds. Really, you will almost have to audit every lead yourself, and only charge them for ones that actually get to a quote stage to not have any problems there. I like offering a PPC service instead, as with that, all adspend goes on the clients card, which takes out the option for the client to simply charge back their card to get back the adspend, if they can't sell their leads. If you sell quotes instead of calls, you will eliminate most of your risk, that said, you will have to be damn good to sell quotes as the client's sales process will likely be shit, so you will have to make up for that by generating the leads super super cheap on the front end. Even when you sell quotes, people will still often still bitch, as they don't follow up the quotes like they should, either. You have to bring on 10 clients to find 1 who doesn't have their head up their ass in terms of lead handling, to get a long term customer, who has a superior sales process to make good use of your leads. Make sense?
