I don't think I'll ever get over how perfect of an idea this is for Capaldi's last ep. The guy literally started watching DW with the First Doctor and his Doctor meeting him is a perfect conclusion.
The ep is a great stopping point while also saying how the show must go on.

Also even if it wasn't intended, this was fantastic for the twelfth doctor. He started out in "Deep Breath" clearly hating how much he's changed and regenerated. Seeing a mirror of himself in the robots as he said that when you've changed every part of a broom over the years, it's not the same broom anymore. Here on the eve of his having refused to regenerate like 3 times on screen in the Doctor Falls (and who knows how many times off screen as we jumped to two weeks later), the TARDIS is forcing him to see that he is still the same at his core. Which also feels incredibly wholesome as this adventure was really just the TARDIS giving their Doctor what they needed to experience.

The music during the final battlefield scene with Twelve/Bill/Nardole is so beautiful and heartbreaking. I love Twice Upon a Time so much. It really is a great ending, and I think if the show had ended there, you couldn't have asked for a better one. I love the First Doctor and Twelfth Doctor meeting at that moment- one facing regeneration for the first time and the other wanting their incarnation to be the last. "Doctor, I let you go" is perfect final line. I also feel that line was Capaldi letting Doctor Who go.

I can't believe it's been 4 years... Funnily enough, I was where you are now, when you started this series, and the episodes have never failed to keep me watching. I chose to stop watching near the start of Series 11, so this _became_ my Doctor Who - revisiting my childhood - when I needed it most.
As often, I completely agree that the show should've taken a hibernation period. Come back around, well, now, and start with The Doctor in medias res, as happened in 2005 with the 9th Doctor (be they a man, woman, white, black, asian, whatever). Give writers time to rest. Because even the best writers in history can't be their best all the time, every time - especially not at the turn-around speed of Doctor Who stories. Moffat once said, when describing Blink, I think, that you know you've got a great episode of Doctor Who when you have a blockbuster story in 45 minutes (and Blink's mind-boggling reach in global pop culture is testament to that). But you simply can't do that for 12 years. And it's not controversial to say the average quality of the show has noticeably dropped.
Of course, to stop after Jodie and Ncuti would look dreadful. So, we'll probably have 1, if not 2, more incarnations to spread the load. But most importantly, the show needs new talent: it's effectively been the same people for almost 20 years. They need to let The Doctor go, and allow the show to regenerate once more.

Won't lie, gonna miss listening to these DW reviews (thankfully they're still on RUclips to listen to over and over again), and I honestly love this Christmas Special, especially with the parallels between the 1st Doctor and 12th Doctor.
Also, in terms of the Doctor not regenerating and dying instead in this episode or "The Doctor Falls", it was obvious it wasn't gonna happen, as Doctor Who is the kind of series that will never truly end, as well as the fact that the Curator exists, meaning the Doctor will live on and keep regenerating until they eventually retire and become the Curator (who I predict is either the 2000th or even 3000th Doctor, that far into the Doctor's future), now yeah, people would say that the Curator was an alternate future for the Doctor that'll never come to pass now for some reason (though the Curator was always intended to be the Doctor's set future, and even right now, as 2024 is about to end, I still think this is the case, meaning the Curator is still long after every Doctor we'll ever get, not just the 15th Doctor, but also the 16th Doctor, 17th, 18th, 19th, etc), but that definitely ain't true.

They've allowed me to relive those times in my life and go back and enjoy a show I've onced loved. We loved it so much that we named our daughter Melody. If this is the end of the channel, I just want to genuinely thank you. All I'd ask is that you don't delete the channel. I love going back and revisiting the older videos. Doctor Who is one of those shows that can give you an episode that connects with you so strongly in the moment where you least expected it, but when you needed it the most.
Until the TARDIS took him to meet his first Incarnation which also passed thru an identity crisis after his old body of him wore a bit thin after what happened during “The Tenth Planet” and was afraid of changing.
This episode basically allows the 12th Doctor to remind himself everything he has done, who is him, why is here there and why those changes, his sacrifices and his reason d’etre are the reason why the universe hasn’t succumbed to evil and why he has to go on.
Without physically doing it, he hugs the First Doctor to remind him to not be afraid of change so he can become the hero that he is.
And the First Doctor returns it to tell him how proud he is of seeing what he will become, that they have to go on and never be tired of change.
This episode arrived in a very important moment for me: one year after leaving my country I was sorely tired and wanting to throw up the towel, but watching that episode between All that burnout reminded me that everything I’ve ever done has been important and made the way to where I am and where I want to go, while I’m still me but embracing every change for the better
This is the episode I play every time I feel down and defeated by stuff that happened and I just feel I wanna end it.
This is the episode that highlights my favorite line that the First Doctor says when he promises Susan he will come back: “Just go forward with all your beliefs, and prove to me that I’m not mistaken with mine”
It’s the episode that makes me tell to myself: don’t give up, you have gone this far you cannot stop
It’s the episode that reminds me: let the bad go, keep being you, laugh hard and be kind.
    God I love this show.

Thank you for this series Harbo, whatever you decide to do next, with this level of passion, commitment and quality I have no doubt that you’ll find a lot of success! I remember watching your first videos on my phone in my car in 2021, throughout my time in a house-share in Bristol and at my various jobs (you got me through a couple of tough night shifts!) and while stressing out late at night in the uni library this last year. You’ve been a great companion and it’s been a pleasure hearing your thoughts and analyses on each episode, and even if I haven’t always agreed with your overall takes I can always appreciate your reasoning and critique. Also, I’ll miss choosing an episode to watch before bed and thinking, “actually I’ll hold off for a few days on this one until the Harbo review’s out.”
On Twice Upon a Time, I’m so glad to hear that you feel so positively about it - personally it’s become my favourite episode of the show (especially after listening to the audiobook narrated by Gatiss, I highly recommend!), but I’ve always felt it was the most perfect an ending that this show could ever have, as well as being a truly heartwarming and introspective epilogue to the Capaldi era. As much as I love the S10 finale, it’s these 3 episodes together that really elevate the Capaldi era and 12’s character arc to the number 1 spot for me and I think we needed this moment of reflection to truly round-off this part of the show. As you mentioned, I can overlook the First Doctor’s dodgy moments for the most part and his inclusion is made completely worthy thanks to his great rapport with / contrast to 12, and Moffat taking the opportunity to examine just how far the character has come, both in-universe and out. The conversation with Bill on Villengard and with 12 on the battlefield are priceless moments that really cement this as a full-circle character moment across 54 years.
And there are just so many fun and interesting aspects of the story, like the opening credits, Testimony being benevolent and the return of Rusty, and I love that Gatiss and Pearl Mackie get a final outing. And I adore that Brig connection, I don’t care what anyone says. The ‘Doctor of War’ section got my hyped to shit the first time I saw it too, and the “to be fair, they cut out all the jokes!” is gold.
But the Armistice scene is truly special. It baffles me that this was something that Moffat had never quite gotten to do, so he used it as the timey-wimey emotional resolution to the most perfect epilogue (that he never intended to write) and it manages to be so thematically resonant with the Doctor’s character arc at this point. It’s just pure poetry and such a respectful and moving use of one of the most hopeful moments in human history. And it could only happen in Doctor Who.
Also, similar to yourself, when this came out I’d just finished my first term of uni and was feeling quite lost and suddenly quite lonely I was one year into my first serious relationship (that had recently become long-distance) and I watched the episode at her house at midnight on Christmas while she and her family were all fast asleep around me. I watched most of it with that familiar goofy grin on my face, but during the final 15 minutes I just wept. Because I knew that I was saying goodbye to my childhood, like it or not, and that things would never really be the same again. And here was my childhood hero, not wanting to change either - but reminding himself why we must. And we did, and things worked out pretty okay (for the most part)!
Thank you again for this series Harbo, and sincerely well done on reaching the end of the journey - this part of it anyway! It’s wild to think just how much has happened since I started following you, and it’s amazing to see how far you’ve come since those early days, and you should genuinely be so proud of yourself. Enjoy the rest of your festive season and remember to take some time to yourself if you need, you’ve more than earned it mate. Wishing you all the best for the new year and beyond, and looking forward to the next one!

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and committed series Harbo and all your videos in fact. I've been following your work for a while, probably since 2020, and I've enjoyed so much of it! There was a time when I had your reviews of The Infinate Quest and Dreamland in my watch later for a while as I hadn't seen them yet myself 😂 This was a fantastic review to end on and your vulnerability at the end is something that will be appreciated by many. Many thanks xx

Your timing was apt for me. I loved the episode for itself, but last night, our beloved dog passed away in his sleep. He wasn't ill or particularly old. It's been a horrendous shock. My husband and our adult son who lives with us are equally devastated.
Letting go isn't going to be easy. He was always going to be our last dog for various reasons, but we've had dogs for nearly 40 years. Even though he was a very quiet dog (greyhounds aren't exactly known for their noise and energy on retirement) the house is too quiet. We were expecting a few more years with him.
I've thoroughly enjoyed your various series. I hope you don't stop completely, I like your explanations. However, doing what _you_ want to do must always be your priority or you'll come to hate it. Having it as a hobby for a while as you discover what you want from life might be the way to go. But I'll remain subbed as long as you carry on. Thanks for this series, I've really loved it.

I'm so sorry to hear that, it's always so difficult losing a dog, I went through the same thing a couple of years ago. But it's always important to remember he passed knowing he was loved and he had all those wonderful years. It's a thought that helped to comfort me so I hope it can do the same for you too and I wish you the best with processing that loss. Stay strong 🙏

Honestly it's been a pleasure watching all your videos reviewing each episode of modern who as we do seem to share many similar opinions plus your very chill and not an obnoxious arse even in regard to episodes you didn't enjoy unlike other reviewers that just shout about of what they hate. And I also appreciate that you're both a fellow Clara fan and 12th Doctor fan as I personally love series 8-10

Thankyou for all the work you put into these reviews. I've enjoyed them a lot over the years, often rewatching your reviews after rewatching the episode. Thankyou for your nuanced takes, I enjoy your perspective even when I disagree.
I have also found Doctor Who, especially the regeneration stories, quite therapeutic when processing things and moving on to a new phase in life. I wish you all the best for whatever you do next.

Thank you for all the years you've given us. I got into your videos when I started watching Doctor Who again (since I was little) a few years ago. You've helped me appreciate and understand the show in a way that I never would have otherwise. I really admired how you attemped show the show in a good light, or at least an open-minded one, despite all the hate it was receiving during Chibnall's era. I watched and listened to your videos in bed, at my desk, on the toilet, in the shower. I'm sorry about what happened to you, and would like to let you know that we do not accept that fan as one of us; I hope you'll be able to find someone better. I'm also sad to hear that you don't love the show as much as you used to, and I won't try to change your mind.
But thank you, Harbo, for everything you've done for the community, and I wish you the best through the next chapter in your life.
    🟥⬜💙
Edit: I just realised you're not stopping making Doctor Who videos, you're just ending this series, so that's a relief!

Lovely video, and where the content morphed from Doctor Who to real life is where the artistry and vulnerability lives. You will have brighter days ahead I am sure. I wish you every luck in your personal and professional life. Surely there is scope for reviews of excellent sci fi series like Dune Prophecy or HotD? What about visiting and revisiting classic Who or Doctor Who audio? I will certainly miss this channel if it ceases, but mate you owe us nothing so live your life.

I'm so thankful for these kinds of stories, they and the people who understand and appreciate and share them, they allow us to hope for the next line of trial and error to be that much better because we've grown that much more. Also just went through a necessary breakup this month as well and the ending of your video had me bleary eyed (American, sorry, we cry ;)). Thank you for your candor Harbo, and you do deserve to be treated better in the future! Thank you for these videos, they've been almost as formative in reflection with that mid/late-twenties growing up as actually rewatching the episodes (and learning to love Clara and 12). Can't wait to see what's next, here's to moving onward

As Series 10 was my first series, I’ll always hold TUAT close to my heart for the reasons you outlined in your review, but then that on camera moment towards the end where you talk about the troubles in your life regarding the break up of a relationship, that hit me. I can relate as someone who has had 2 break ups within this year, I get how it feels, but I have faith that you’ll be okay and it makes you a better, stronger person. You always make great videos regardless of if I agree on the opinions of an episode or not, your videos are well thought out and put together, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours

I know pivoting from Doctor Who to another show is almost impossible on this channel, as it's been built around Doctor Who.
So if you have to start a new channel or something, however you resolve this. I just want you to know you are excellent at what you do, I'm grateful for the videos over the years and I hope you find a way to pivot and keep going, would be a waste of talent otherwise.

this ep IMO both serves as a farewell to the 12th Doctor and offers a full-circle moment that ties back to the very first incarnation of the Doctor, portrayed by William Hartnell. This episode is not only a fitting send-off for Capaldi but also an important reflection on the journey of the character, both in terms of personal growth and in the historical context of the show itself. a reflection on who they were, who they are, and who they will become. By bringing the First Doctor into the final moments of the 12th Doctor’s era, the show creates a beautiful sense of closure, completing a narrative arc that began in 1963 with William Hartnell. It is a full-circle moment that reminds us that, no matter how many faces the Doctor wears, the essence of the character-and the adventure-remains timeless.
