emotions aren't able to be put into proper words, but into music they are. and that is exactly what tchaikovsky managed very well. I adore this piece and it always makes me think of my dearest places /people that I have been /been with

One of the greats Leonid Kogan. I have a recording of him playing this piece with an orchestra, as great as his playing is here, it is better in it's original form. He always reminded me of Heifetz, it's exciting playing, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Like Heifetz, I wish he were around today, todays players are all brilliant but there are none that I would say have greatness. I wish I had lived in their time. I remember I heard Erick Friedman at the Wigmore hall in 1975, he was Heifetz's best pupil. I sat there spellbound by his sound, I know I will never anything like it again, i couldn't believe it, I thought a sound like this only existed in fairy tales.Years later I remember speaking to Professor Claire Hodgkins,( who was also a pupil of
Heifetz,) about the effect Erick Friedman's playing had on me,
she told me Erick Friedman was very I'll, but she would be very happy to pass on my message.
Unfortunately Clair Hodgkins is no longer with us. She was a very friendly lady. We used to talk about
Jascha Heifetz for hours. I never met her, our conversations were all by phone.

Frank, as a violinist myself, I can say that almost all the violinists today are stamped out with a cookie cutter. In the old days, you could tell Kreisler, Elman, Thibaud, Heifetz, by their sound. There was no mistaking it. I heard Kreisler play at Orchestra Hall Chicago in 1947 when I was a seven year old student. His playing affected everything I have done since! Kogan was in that pantheon of truly great violinists. Someone once said, truthfully, that neither Kreisler, Elman, or possibly even Heifetz would make the first cut in today's Tchaikovsky Competition because their playing was far too unique!

Then you haven't heard of Augustin Hadelich! He has that "something else" the old generation violinists had that you can rarely find anymore.

God damn beautiful, one of the best mono sound I've ever heard. I would take this recording over any perfect stereo sound recording out there. The artistry quality is just ridiculous

It's not mono. I just looked closely at stereo tracks, and they are slightly different. But yes, the piece and performance is genius, raw and beautiful.

Stereo in a 1952 recording? Perhaps it was released on one of those artificially enhanced LPs that simulated stereo.
