    The death of the rim brake has finally arrived

    • @albr4
      @albr4 5 месяцев назад +6

      I'm guessing someone blamed the 2023 vuelta team time trial crash on the trinity's rim brakes which triggered this change, when obviously it was the tyres that lost grip and the leading rider's mistake rather than the brakes not working well enough. I'm fairly certain the old trinity with rim brakes is at least as fast as this new version due to the drag increase from the discs, the improved tube shapes are just gaining back what they've lost with the discs. I'm surprised they've changed them since the vast majority of TT bike crashes are now caused by rider's locking their wheels up while using disc brakes.

    There is actually one more rim brake bike still in the WT, the Bianchi Aquila ridden by Arkea.

    Looks very tasty, wouldn't mind one of those really for speeding around. Just don't know how safe it is on open roads! I trust Giant to have engineered a good solution here with their mono riser and trust you'll be the first to take a look and call them out if there's something dodgy going on.

    Thank you for pointing out about TTV brakes. I have nothing against rim, but those brakes either rubbed or didn’t work.

    • @albr4
      @albr4 5 месяцев назад

      yep those side pull brakes are awful, I've used similar on an old argon 18. They should've mounted them to the front of the fork and used a center pull brake, like the tririg omegas. The Tririg brakes work flawlessly and make 0 difference in aerodynamics compared to a bike with no brakes at all (tririg claim it makes the bike faster). If you were designing a TT bike you could place the brake infront of the fork and shape it to match the fork/headtube which effectively increase the aerofoil length thus improving aerodynamics while getting around the UCI 80mm tube length limit.

    Ive been working with giants for a little while now, when i heard that there was a new trinity my first reaction was “NO GOD PLEASE NO” those old trinity’s are a fking nightmare to work on, like words cannot describe how much that bike sucks to work on, hopefully they got their heads out of their asses for this new one but only time will tell

    Glad to see they’ve retained the distinctive Trinity geometry. Only thing I don’t like is the fact that the the rear side of the lower section of the seat tube is not concentrically parallel to the wheel (like on the current rim brake model)…

  • @michaelgriffiths305
    @michaelgriffiths305 5 месяцев назад +1

    Looks like Giant have kept distinctive traits. May not have innovated much but a) having wider tyres with skinnier seat post = greater comfort b) brakes are an upgrade c) UCI deeper front end means it looks like frame will be slightly faster. Interesting point on the two bolts and be great in time to hear of those bolts have been isolated.
    Overall a solid update on a great bike. The Giant set up is quick even by world tour level standards … is there info on the price yet?

    • @veganpotterthevegan
      @veganpotterthevegan 5 месяцев назад +1

      It was still fairly competitive as a rim brake bike. The fork alone is likely a fairly big gain on top of allowing bigger tires

    I'd be really surprised if there isn't some kind of adapter for significant basebar vertical adjustment. Looks like 35s will fit on this - awesome. Agree on 2 bolt mono riser ... and I wouldn't be confident Giant have got it right - I have a feeling you might be selling a lot of adapters.

    Sorry, I cant wrap my head around a 32mm tire on a disc wheel. Certainly they are still designed for skinny tires. Or isn't the separation from the bulge not a concern with discs, because the flow stabilizes due to the lack of a hole in the wheel?

    Could they have not done a floating rear caliper to allow for sliding dropouts? Suzuki were doing this on GSXRs back in the 90s
    ETA; all motorbikes have a solution for this to allow for chain tension adjustment.
    Missed opportunity from Giant.

      They could have, but its added complexity in a world where making two holes round is a big ask. This is the bike industry, time to keep it simple.

    Never understand why the steering geo on tt bikes is so steep. Not like there've been any high profile tt crashes... As for bi7ching about Trinity rim brakes, unless you've worked on the rim brakes/front end of a BMC Timemachine, you are but a grasshopper! Oh, I've got a bolt left over... probably not important.

    Love my 2017 Trinity! It’s an absolute rocket ship and handles like a road bike, but the one thing that always bothered me about it is that the angle of the base bar is tilted slightly downward and isn’t adjustable. Beyond that, I wouldn’t change anything…
    Btw, disc brakes on a TT bike is absurd and shows just how far bullshit can take you. Disc for dirt, rim for road…iykyk!
