    • @Thundaril
      @Thundaril 8 лет назад +12

      Dorje ain't that heavy on the prog side. Toska (Ben's, Bea's & Dave's project) expands a lot more into that direction.

    As soon as everything cut off at the very end, a church bell about 1/2 mile away rang a few times. It's tuned to C. It fit so perfectly I thought it was part of the recording at first.

      Epic

    • @michellelehky2374
      @michellelehky2374 8 лет назад +3

      Am I the only one wondering how this guy knows the tuning of his church bells?

    • @Justin.Franks
      @Justin.Franks 8 лет назад +4

      Michelle Lehky I have perfect pitch. But any musician would at least have been able to immediately discern that the bell was tuned to the same key as the song. I'm just able to know what key it is without any reference. It's not a big deal.

    • @ionutbuzatu4609
      @ionutbuzatu4609 8 лет назад

      That is cool! What instrument do you play?

    • @Justin.Franks
      @Justin.Franks 8 лет назад +4

      Ionut Buzatu My main instruments are piano and keyboard (yes, they are very different from each other), but I also play guitar and a little bit of bass (self-taught). I played the clarinet and drums in my high school's band but haven't touched either in about 15 years.
      A lot of people think that perfect pitch is an amazing ability that is incredibly helpful to a musician, but I don't think much of it. Sure, its useful in some situations, like being able to tell what key a piece of music is in, but it is actually a hindrance in some ways. I had difficulty playing the clarinet since it is a B♭instrument -- when you play a C on a clarinet, the actual pitch you get is a B♭. So I had to try to not think about the pitch being a whole step below what was written on the sheet music. Since it was only a whole step, it wasn't too difficult to put it out of my mind, but it still affected me, and I never was able to become as proficient on the clarinet as I wanted to.
      I tried playing the saxophone a few times, but that one I simply could not play at all. It's an E♭ instrument, so the pitch the instrument sounds is one and a half steps higher than what's printed on the music. That was simply too much for me to be able to ignore.
      And that same issue also affects my guitar playing. I can't downtune lower than one whole step, so D standard / Drop C is the lowest I can play on a six-string guitar, or A standard / Drop G on a seven-string. This is because I expect to hear a specific note when I play each string, and if it is more than a whole step "off", my brain basically gets in the way.
      For example, if I finger and play a G major chord, but the guitar is tuned down to C standard, I'll hear and recognize that I'm actually playing an E♭major chord. Then if I want to play the V chord (a fingered D major chord that is actually a B♭major chord), my brain tells me to finger a B♭major chord instead, which will be a G♭major chord in that tuning.
      In order to help with this, I've been trying to change how I view the guitar strings and chords -- referring to each string using string numbers (1st string, 2nd string, etc.) instead of string pitches (E string, B string, etc.), and thinking of chords as "pattern G major" or "pattern A minor" instead of just "G major chord" and "A minor chord", but it's been more difficult than I would have liked.
      Honestly, if I could get rid of my perfect pitch, I probably would. A good sense of relative pitch is really all you need. And having other musicians, after learning that you have perfect pitch, asking you to identify pitches or chords like a parlor trick, quickly gets old.

      Thanks for the recommendation, it was quite an interesting watch and a listen (although I felt Fjara video does not match the tone of the song as well). I do enjoy both. This one serves its purpose well, I enjoyed the song and enjoyed watching the band perform. I will defo listen to the song again, as far as the video goes, I think I'd rather pull a new live video if I want to see the band play. I guess if it is just the band performing, the video loses replay value for me.

    Im so use to Rob Chapman being a ripping youtube review guy who could knock your face off with a crazy riff on an entry level epiphone. Even though I heard he was in a band but I never knew which one. This is my first time seeing him really rock. Rabea Massaad was a believable rocker just by his afro alone. Thanks Rob for all the riffs and reviews.!!!!!!!!

    this is the first song I've ever heard from you guys. I was checking out Leo's video and your guitar player was on and I became curious. Thank God I did because this is perhaps the best sound I've heard in quite some years. You guys are tight very tight. Instrumentally, vocally, harmonizations man you guys are the real deal. Good music especially good rock/metal is not easy to come by as of late but this is pure platinum in my humble opinion. I pray you guys get tons of attention and stay true to what you are doing.

    Man this is just awesome, really appreciating Rob's vocals and I gotta say Dave's mix work is just stellar and everyone is just so on point Bea's guitar work is amazing Dave is killing it, really really enjoying Ben's drums and Rob's guitar work is phenomenal as always. Absolutely blown away. Keep up the fantastic work!

    I dunno what i feel about this song, i mean i like dorje as much as the guy who kill me to say this, but there is just too much nuddling around in this video and song in general. I mean where is the rhytmn that makes it stuck in your head? But i dunno maybe i need to listen to it a couple of times before i like it, but this will probably not be a fav of mine of dorje songs. Hope not the rest of the ep is like this.

    • @firstlast-wg2on
      @firstlast-wg2on 8 лет назад +3

      What do you mean where is the rhythm that makes it stuck in your head? Isn't that subjective? Or do you mean the time signature isn't a pop time signature?

    • @MatEnAlks
      @MatEnAlks 8 лет назад +4

      What? These drums are perfect. Original arrangement, time signature that creates good amount of tension and keeps things interesting. And it complements how riffs are written. It just wouldn't work with basic 4/4, and I even think that I would turn the video off after like 20 seconds. It's just so boring that ACDC(trademark) beat.

    Everything is fucking great. I mean everything. But i do think you guys should work more on the aesthetics. For example, everytime i see the drummer, i think, "what! Thats the drummer?" Image wise, he doesn't fit. Also Rob, i think you should work on your stage presence, the way you hold your mic is a bit unorthodox or it looks weird. Rabea looks good, i like his enthusiasm and that bassist is spot on with looks and feel faces.
    Rock on and genuinely wish you all the success!

    • @SpyZ86

      While I don't necessarily disagree with you, music should be about about what you feel and not about what you find visually appealing. I say let people do what they feel comfortable with and let their music speak for them.

      It should be about the music but it's not. Because music is a business first, second it's art. So that's why these things do matter.

    • @ned316
      @ned316 8 лет назад +1

      *****
      It holds because it is a business. And also what people see does affect the product. Bands are a product/ a brand.
      From Nirvana to The Beatles, Sex Pistols to Metallica. They all had an image and a certain style they portrayed. And no it wasn't just who they were or it was all naturally like that. They stretch the personalities further. Some even go right out and completely fake it.
