  • During my time in Seoul, South Korea, I lived in a goshiwon (a little 7sq metre room) and I absolutely loved it.

Great video! I'm considering staying in a goshiwon when I visit Korea in the future but I'd want to teach English classes for a few hours each evening from my goshiwon room. I've heard in a few of these room tour videos that being quiet is important so I wonder if teaching with my headphones on (essentially having the equivalent of a few hours of phone calls each week night) would be too disruptive to my neighbors. Thoughts?

It depends on the goshiwon. I was in a shared work/student goshiwon, so it was important for me to be very quiet after 9pm so that people could study or sleep. There are other goshiwons that allow noise until midnight. You'd have to ask the owner of the building or the person renting it about that. As a general rule, though, I would say that hours of talking on the phone wouldn't be appreciated in a goshiwon. You can hear everything through the walls.

I don’t complain if the rent is cheaper and have work
