*I will never compare the two. I understand the loyalty some have to Joey but there should never be any animosity towards Jay just because he's not Joey. Joey was an incredible, talented, amazing drummer and an all around good person. Jay is also an incredible and talented drummer who deserves the same respect for doing what he does. He gives his all to the band and to all of us. They're both amazing.*

There is 0 animosity towards Jay. Jay is the only drummer on the planet I think that could fill Joey’s shoes. He was a student to the Joey style while adding his dad’s style to the symbols and toms

Joey stepping in for Lars was last minute. Lars took unwell at Download and Slipknot had just finished their set and they asked Joey. It wasn't just him though, Dave Lombardo from Slayer stepped in for a few as well.
Joey will always be something else man.

Joey is without doubt the GOAT metal drummer, Small in stature but an absolute colossus on those drums. Never had a drum lesson in his life and made it look so easy. Joey forever, R.I.P.

I think they're both great. Joey filling in for Metallica was awesome, but don't forget Jay filled in for his dad on tour with Bruce Springsteen (who constantly changed up the setlist at the last minute). That was pretty awesome too.
Yeah, Jay has said that he had to learn over 200 songs because you never knew what the set list was because it changed every night and always last minute!

Joey’s headbanging while playing is just so impressive to me. Both are fantastic, but the showmanship of Joey gives him the edge for me.

Slipknot is one of my favorite bands, both drummers do the band justice but i have to admit to me joeys style is unmatched.
Joey is more raw, brings the intensity and was innovative. Jay is more assured, he’s never had to work for it.
Both are amazing drummers but Joey was the first drummer to do blast beats in the mainstream and influence so many morden metal drummers and it's awesome that you guys did this

Jay’s definitely a great drummer, but it’s Joey for me. Consider this- Joey got sick with a disease called “Acute Transverse Myelitis “, which is a form of MS, and lost the use of his legs. He fought through treatments and physical therapy for a couple of years (which is the timeline of him and Slipknot parting), and came back like a beast to play drums again. You guys should check out some music from the bands Joey was in after his comeback, like the bands Murderdolls, Sinsaenum, and my favorite of them- Vimic. A good song to check out would be Vimic- She sees everything..
There's a drum cam video of Joey playing Creeping Death with Metallica at that fill in show. Do that next week
Morning fellas! Loved watching them both play! I saw a difference between the two styles for sure! I tried not to be biased but I love Joey's style of playing! He is more raw when he plays! Enjoyed this guys!🙂🤓🤘

Joey was one of a kind. That vid compilation didn't do em justice. He's the goat, imo.
For me you'll never beat Joey. What he did with Slipknot was amazing but it's really what he did outside of that which makes him shine. He was in over a dozen other bands in his lifetime, not to mention having done collaborations with over a dozen bands too. He was simply prolific, and was noted as having an encyclopedic knowledge of music.

Jay’s got the skills, but Joey just had this lightness and dexterity to his playing. Like how Bruce Lee built himself for speed rather than brute force.

Jay's dad Max has been Bruce Springsteen's drummer for decades. Jay has even covered for his dad playing with Springsteen. The guy can play any style
Joey could play any style too.
Both are mind blowingly amazing drummers. I don't think one is "better" than the other. Jay was a fan of Slipknot from a young age, so I think he had huge admiration for Joey

I think it's very difficult to compare both. Such comparison videos would also be better if they had taken the same song and how the two play it differently (imo). But both are insanely good and I think this is more a matter of personal preference as to who you like better because jay is in no way inferior to joey

The bit of joey in the studio if theyhad put the full version you would have seen he was kust testing the drums it is not a song ( it is from roadrunner 25 th anniversery video) saw jay live and he killed it but joey will always be #1🤟 great one guys and btw joey toured with korn ( playing drums ) rob zombie , minestry all while still being with spipknot

Fun fact Jay Weinberg’s father is a well known jazz drummer and taught Jay how to play drums for jazz music they even played together so when Jay got the gig with Slipknot he took what he knew about jazz drumming and brought it to Slipknot
It's ironic as Joey started out playing jazz as well.
Jay's Dad tried to teach him but quickly found out it wouldn't work. They were two different people with different styles & Jay wanted to find his own way. This was brought up on a Guitar Center video with both Jay and his dad👌🏼
joeys style is and will forever be unmatched that no-one can deny, but we have to agree jay is extremely talented in his craft on tours with his dad back in 2009 he learnt 5 songs per day if he needed to fill in for his father, which only occured once, when you think of the two you shouldn't immediately think of comparing the two, more so respecting the two because as jay has said previously he formed a friendship with the whole band including joey before joey was removed from the band, im sure he even had some tutoring from joey. the only way i think of it when thinking of "joey vs jay" is how well jay took over for joey to keep his legacy going as the title of slipknots drummer

I'm not going to judge which one is better overall because they both work great for slipknot. But...... I like Joey's style better because he just went so fast and headbang at the same time I liked it. But I'm not taking anything from Jay. He still makes it good to listen and that's the most important for me. I don't see the drummer that much usually during a concert unless I'm wrong and the main thing is to hear all the beats etc.
You should check out when joey jordison stepped in and saved metallica when Lars was out for some reason.
Jay's father Max, is Bruce Springsteen's drummer.

I'll never compare the 2 guys as I have extreme respect for both. They're both amazing in what they do (have done) and brought to Slipknot. For the band to choose Jay as Joey's replacement speaks volumes in itself! 🤘🏼🥁🤘🏼
Only thing I will say is that I think Jay may be a little more fluid in the way he moves around his kit. Otherwise their abilities are unremarkable!
Now remember this, if jay couldn't fill the shoes of a legend that is joey, well, he would of not been introduced to slipknot. But both ad you" say beranger they both of different styles of playing.

Let's not forget that Joey wasn't the first drummer to drum on a moving platform like that. Tommy Lee did that long before Joey with Motley Crue. Tommy also upped it even more by basically drumming over the crowd on what was pretty much a roller coaster. Tommy is also probably the best Rock/Metal drummer ever. You guys should check out some Tommy Lee. Having said all that, Joey was a beast, and so is Jay, who takes after his father Max, who is also a great drummer.
To me Joey's style seems more thrashy and jay's has more of a groove to it

I always loved max Weinberg. Growing up watching Conan. , And jay. His son is obviously talented. AF. Joey is my boy though. , Funny how things work out. , Cause I'm sure jay was there when. Slipknot appeared on Conan. Throughout the years ,
Jay is more refined. Joey didn't give a fuck, if his left hand was closer to the drum than his right hand he would use it. Jay seems more like he's sticking to the basics and mixing Slipknot music into it.
I hate the vs. Jay is the only drummer on the planet who could fill Joey’s shoes. For the same reason Joey was the only drummer to fill Lars’s shoes. Jay vs Joey has never been a debate for maggots. Instead it’s a “what if “ dream. Jay and Joey dueling drums. Holy hell that’s a music lovers wet dream
Joey has it all. Jay is a great replacement but don’t kid yourself Joey is polished, precise, as well as a great showman. Remember Jay grew up idolizing Joey and learned from him. Jay is more Groovy and is very good at adapting to anything whereas Joey is just a legend with the fastest and most powerful percussion out there. Comparing them is like comparing one of the greats in Modern wrestling with the undertaker. Both are great but the undertaker is just on another level.

Joey was a lot cleaner and played with more ease. Jay is good but always seemed like he was stretching himself trying to play Joeys fills.
If you look at them both….
Joey was more slouched for his drumming, allowing him to have the ability to put his whole body into his hitting, the ability to swing his hair wildly and the insane hand speed he has with his legs too. Regardless he has POWER and presence he is a SPEED demon.
Jay sits way more upright in his chair and a lot closer to the drums and he has more crisp and direct movements, but he still has power and ability, but a different style than Joey.
They both are incredible, I suggest you go check out some recent drum cams from Jay, they have some great songs posted and he really does bring his own flavor to the music, doing the legend Joey proud as well I feel
The fact that the drums were not Joey’s first love, but he played them JUST so he could be in Slipknot, and ended up being one of the best metal drummers of all time, love you Jay, but Joey wins.
It's so disrespect that people are comparing joey with jay.. there are other drummers who can fill up like jay did in slipknot but what joey did with slipknot isn't replaceable..we don't compare gods with people..jay is good but joey is god tier drummer.. a man who inspired millions of people to be a drummer and joey was the face of slipknot and made them who they are today in metal world..

Jay is really, really good. He’s a great fit for the band. BUT, to me there’s no comparison. That’s Joey F’in Jordison, guy was an absolute beast and in my opinion one of the drummers ever. The first time I heard the opening blast beat on P=S I was blown away. So even though I really like Jay, it’s not even close for me
I don't think it's really fair to compare the two - Just for the fact that Jay is classically trained & Joey is not. That said, Joey is from another planet. There's something about those dudes from Iowa, they're just different.
This makes no sense unless you compare song for song but to be honest that’s also not really gonna get you anywhere because they wouldn’t have hired jay if he couldn’t play every song beat for beat

I think for me, Jay is a great great drummer, world class. But Joey, on top of being a great world class drummer, was an innovator, a personality, a bona-fide once in his generation influential rock star.
Joey wrote music that nobody had wrote before and he was really good and talented but I personally like jay and he’s drumming style more and the fact that he also can play joeys song make him my best drummer

Joey was a monster on drums. Jay is perfect for their new style. The fact Joey cover for Lars is cool but Lars is thr weakest drummer in metal history. It works for Metallica but not any other band. Why do you think most drummers learn Metallica songs first? Metallica is kind of the gatekeeper to the metal world. If you don't like Metallica as someone who never listened to metal you will never like metal. For that I respect Metallica but first 4 albums are the only ones I listen to. Besides I'mmore of a megadeth fan.

Comparing Joey to Jay is like comparing Dimebag to Zakk Wylde, Zakk can play Pantera songs but nowhere near Dimebag's level.
Joey was one of the best drummers ever, only Mario Duplantier is on the same level for me. But Jay is also great drummer, I love outro to Killpop.
