I remember in the 70’s and early 80’s when the IC would do local jobs from the Hawthorn yard in Cicero to service the industry in Forest Park. It wasn’t often but I do remember waiting at the Cermak Road crossing when they used a Switch Engine for those jobs.

thanks for being a faithful follower of mine. The annotation has the link to abandoned parking garage or you can click here: ruclips.net/video/zSbjzjwB44k/видео.html. I've never thought of that about the backpack. I just thought it was just random trash but maybe something did happen I don't know. I did encounter another interesting find here it is: ruclips.net/video/Vihjz6WGk4c/видео.html.

I was born in March of 1994 and lived in the Chicagoland area until December of 2007 and I think I maybe saw one train on these old tracks. They must have been on their way out when I was still pretty young. Why were the tracks removed anyway? No longer needed or too hazardous and/or costly? Let me know if you have any information on the matter.

      No longer needed I guess.

@@TheMostAwesomeMan2424 I could see it. There was hardly any service on those tracks when I lived back up there from 1995 to 2007. BTW, I moved with my family to Chicagoland when I was one year old. We moved from Southeast New Mexico. And we moved back there in 2007 and we have been here ever since. I miss the railroad action and the historic cemeteries and most of all the connection to my Italian American roots (my mom's family is from Taylor Street in Chicago's Little Italy and my father is from Southeast New Mexico and they met in Chicago after he got out of the Air Force at the end of the 1980s. I hope that one day I can live up in my homeland again and take my own train videos and eat delicious food with my fellow Italians.

Mike, you were blessed not to have a train come through on the active track.

Dave Wollenberg well, I did not cross that track but the one that sat vacant until I reached the end of it.

Did this track get a brief run over in 2007 or 08? According to google maps 2007 or 8 on cermak road the crossing lights are on. Btw can you try to do an update of this railroad track? Apparently the tracks are all gone and the signals at north riverside mall and cermak road.

+Haydn Haycocks (railwizard2014) There may have been a final run at the time probably to remove the hopper cars at the end of one the lines which sat for God knows how long. I may do update where I return and record what's left or I may just write an update on the description. by the way, I will eventually combine all the parts of videos for this track and make it into one video. stay tune everyone.

I had a feeling google maps August 2011 where you start the video with the track pulled off the running track is still stuck to the active line

Haydn Haycocks may have been. I actually recorded in November 2011.
