My grandfather was at Texas A&M college in the forties and decided to hop a freight train to get home for Christmas break. He hopped on right behind the tender where all the coal for the engine was stored. He said the train had some kind of a scoop to take on water from the side of the tracks without stopping, and when it did this it splashed all over him and drenched him. He hung on getting colder and colder until he saw some lights beside the track and jumped off. He went into a building and by a stroke of luck a man found him freezing and took him down to a boiler room and put a blanket on him. He says he might have died if he wasn't warmed up. He never hopped a train again lol.

45 years ago I worked on unloading railroad freight cars, there were some beat up cars back then and the doors were so rusty that we couldn’t open them by hand or with crowbars. We had a large gas powered fork lift with a big chain and hook. We would get a running start and pull those doors open and sometimes they would come completely off. On the boxcars that had sliding bulkhead partitions inside they could literally squish you against the other bulkhead door if the cars slam to a stop.
Back when I was painting trains. I would make sure to remember the identification number on the car that I had pieced up, and then after a day or so, I'd call the phone number to whoever owned the rail line that car was on and run a check on it's current location, destination, etc.

Something I never thought I'd say: "This is perfect train-hopping music" lmao 😂
How does one know what train to hop to go to whatever destination you’re going to?
Yes
Back when I was painting trains. I would make sure to remember the identification number on the car that I had pieced up, and then after a day or so, I'd call the phone number to whoever owned the rail line that car was on and run a check on it's current location, destination, etc.
He clearly doesn't he keeps commentingthat hes not sure what direction the train was taking. Luck of the draw. 🤷
They don’t
He doesn't but he knows the general direction and just goes with it. Headed west
You should get those hot hand warmers to keep warm train hoping looks litt cool video 🎉
Nice to see you back Kevin. Hope all is well. Stay safe.
The jazzy tune by Chris Tiano was a bonus! Cool vid.
These videos are filling a Stobe the Hobo sized hole in my heart.
Thought you were gonna say arse
Incredible video you are blessed with a great attitude and spirit my rail riding friend
Haven't seen a good train video since Stobe the Hobo (RIP). Thanks for the video. Be careful!
He was a good man
@@OneshotMovementhe was a drunk. Hobo shoestring was a better train hopper. I think drinking did him in also.
@@Oxtcxst kinda weird, alcohol led to the death of both.
Love your enthusiasm Kido and a lighthearted approach to the brutal life
Don’t know why or how this posted on my feed, but yea I’m feeling this kid. I work everyday living a boring fucking life and he is just free. Ain’t easy doing what he do but God it looks free. Stay up K, and be safe. Just subscribed too.
I stay home everyday, take care of pets now . Kids gone . Just know a job isn't the problem . We all still work all day no matter if you have a pay check or not .
Nice job. Good shots of scenery without showing too much - your timing is good. Commerce CA - heck you're right in LA. Chill out. Of course I realize that was back in March.
