Agreed Rabbi. I'm a Christian from Peru that just moved to the US over year ago. From what I see in here looking it from an unbiased perspective it's people mostly debating against or for the state of Israel, politically inspired, not really based on antisemitism or hated towards Jewish people. Although there does exist a loud minority on the internet that is indeed antisemetic. I myself feel very sympathetic towards the preservation of Israel. I think Jews finally deserve to have one of their own after many years of persecution.

2:55 When something terrible happens to a group the correct action is to say "What did we do wrong?" Instead of "who did this to us?" Seriously? Then why does Israel and its supporters always jump to "Antisemitism!" In response to any criticism instead of asking "Hey, did we do something wrong?"
@Hmmm-hmmm No, he didn't. Candace was purposefuly bad faith in her interpretation of his definition. he obiously doesn't mean it changes at the whim of Jewish people. anti semetism has one definition, but the reasons for it have changed over the ages.
This video starts out great, but goes badly off the rails when it presents “what did we do wrong?” and “who did this to us?” as a dyad rather than a spectrum. When it comes to Israel, few parties wind up only in one camp. This video seems to sidestep that essential understanding altogether. The clear implication is that those who are pro-Israel have greater justification for their beliefs, given the simplistic model presented. Both Jews and Arabs have a lot of trouble with the “what did we do wrong?” side of the spectrum. This video does a pretty good job of unintentionally revealing its creator’s own beliefs that seemingly lean towards a kind of “scapegoating.” What a shame, as otherwise I would be drawn towards sharing it. As it is, I think its rash over-simplification makes it just as likely to cause division as to promote unity.
Thanks so much for the comment and suggestion! Perhaps the only thing I know for sure about the subject is that there is nothing I know for sure! Funny, while I love to pontificate via text, I don't know if it had ever occurred to me to make a video! Hmm... I suspect this is a serious case of me missing the glaringly obvious. Perhaps I should start a series "IMNHO" (In My Never Humble Opinion). What I might be able to speak to are the pitfalls of black & white, high contrast thinking. I wish I understood more about how to sustainably get opposing parties, both of whom feel so deeply and exceptionally wronged, to see and operate from the seemingly infinite shades of gray. It takes a lot more subtlety, pro-active thinking and compassion. These resources often seem in short supply., Taking accountability for all of one's actions, not just the "good," seems out of style. Addiction to claiming victimhood is all the rage. Most of the greatest oppressors cloak their justifications for brutality in the garb of claiming victimhood. Foof...
The moment a group is blamed for damn everything, we are in serious "Israel caused the tsunami." That's totally out of propotion. and "Israel cause the financical crash." No, there's a free day to everyone (like Christian's Sunday) on the day it happened (Saturday). And it's related to USA
Watching this thoughtful video after learning of Rabbi Sacks' death just last Shabbat shows how much the world lost in his passing. He had an ability to "boil down" complicated concepts into simple stories that were cogent, persuasive and demonstrative of a passionately felt morality. Although I never met him, the connection I felt through listening to his podcasts on the Torah makes me feel like I have lost a friend.
Lex Francis Think abour this way, the world woke up in 2008 (I think) to finansical breakdown, because of something happened in the USA. But instead of saying "we are a fault" it was easier to say "Israel at faulr"
@Sharon Efee No, it's absolutely clear from what he says leading up to 2:46 that he's talking about the Palestinians. Whose 'human rights' could Rabbi Sacks is talking about apart from the Palestinians? It's pure victim-blaming and if someone spoke like that about Jews they would rightly be called anti-semitic.
It's not about faults, it's about what's more productive. We can blame people and believe hurting them would solve our problems, or we can ask what could we do to fix the problem. Scapegoating doesn't help, it only creates more scapegoating. The Jews were persecuted so they fixed their problem with a country. Blaming and hurting Europe wouldn't have helped.
@@monsieurbertillon9570 no, I'm sorry, but he's referring to an old Jewish teaching. He is not victim blaming. When fixing a problem, we try to first look at our own behavior and fix or change that in the future so we can grow from our mistakes or learn from our failures. Instead of placing blame on anybody else. I promise this is a teaching that's very common, and not directed at Palestinians at least not in a negative way. It's just a "work on yourself first." attitude. Rabbi Sacks has said before he wishes all good things for Palestinian people and their right to their own state.
‘Denying Israels right to exist is antisemticism’ - besides the fact that ‘right to exist’ has no meaning within international law - no it emphatically is NOT antisemticism. Just as denying apartheid South Africa’s right to exist as a white race-based country prior to Mandella was not a form of racism, in fact it was the opposite. Thus one can be opposed to the existance of a state, namely Israel, based around a singular ethnicity, while agreeing with Hannah Arendt in the complete legitimacy of the geographical location, for many Jewish people, of Palestine/Israel as a homeland. The LATER should rightly recieve full collective support, while calling for an end to the ethnic based STATE. No modern country can morally exist as a state based upon a single ethnicity - period.
2:26 Did he seriously just say "criticising Israel's violations of human rights is the new Antisemitism" while saying at 1:08 that "criticism of Israel is okay"?
There's plenty of people who say that the United Kingdom should not exist _in its present form_ (eg Welsh, Scots and Irish nationalists.) This also applies in many other polities.
We ,all must empty our haterd hearts and fill it with loving ,kindness, and respect for others, which God almighty wanted us to be and act upon. May blessing of god almighty be with all.

I love your videos. Not only they are clear and direct, they nail the problem, but they are educative and you never get bored of them. Nevertheless, I think you, as a Jew, forget as most Jews the main reason of antisemism, that is envy. You will answer immediately "But why envy?, we've been prosecuted, masacred and despised for years", and I must answer those were the consequences of envy. People envy Jews because of their success, not because they are "rich", this a naïve untrue idea, but because they survive as a "people". Despite all prosecutions, pogromos, Shoa, etc,..... Jews are still Jews, nobody has managed to make them dissolve in other cultures. Jews have a higher level of solidarity with other Jews than we, Christians, have with other Christians, or Muslims with other Muslims. All the times I've seen Yazadies, for example, been raped, masacred etc.. by ISIS; I thought "Bad luck for them they were not Jews, if they had been Jews, the IDF would have organised a quick operation in which 1000 people would have been rescued in one night. Besides this, despite all what you've gone trough, you don't hate others, you even don't hate the one whoe were your offenders. You have all the right to hate, but as a Jew friend of mine, whose parents were the only survivors of the Shoa in their respective families, always tells me, her mother used to say: "Success is the best revenge", "concentrate in working hard, building Israel, reading the Torah, becoming a good Jew, improving your education, etc... you will not have time to hate". Hate is the feeling which unables people to progress. People also envy Jews because of the miracle of Israel, because when you are middling and mediocre you hate the one who successes, despite how hard he has worked. I always say hate for Jews is a "litmus paper", if you are a whingeing middling, for sure you will hate Jews. If you admire people who succeed and are a hard worker, you will admire them.

Pertinent facts, Rabbi Sacks, and skilled art to explain. Overlooked though is the Bible. Old and New Testaments explain we are in a "Spiritual" battle. It is the unseen Principalities and Powers in heavenly realms fighting the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Hurting the humanity that God created in His image. Why would Yeshua come as a JEW? To fulfill hundreds of prophesies and be the Sacrificed Lamb of God.
Criticism of the Israeli state and of Zionism is not antisemitism. Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and is illrgally occupying Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem under conditions of apartheid
Good commentary - some confusion over saying we can criticising Israel, but then that critical comments about her are AS. Criticising or spreading hatred of Jews is AS, yes and we all want rid of it, but Israel , a multi faith country, can have her policy criticised without being AS....as can Zionism which is a multi faith movement.
The Antisemitism has always been highest in Western world the peak of this was Holocaust where millions of Jews were persecuted horrifically at the hands of Nazis. When Nazis were finally defeated the right thing was an independent state for Jews. As they were persecuted in Europe there should have been a state for them in Europe and especially Germany. But Europerans, UK being the front runner, decided that they should have a home away from Europe in Palestine. Creating the state of Israel in that part of world is the biggest Antisemitism because not only Israeli but Palestinians do not live in peace to this day. Jews were living in harmony with Palestinians before creation of Israel. This all changed when Europeans decided to "exile" the Jews to the land faraway instead of finding and creating the state within Europe where they coud've lived in peace very easily. I have met many Jews whose parents and grandparents refused to move to Israel as they fear that if they do go a Palestinian family will have to be displaced because of them.
So how do you explain this survey of 2017 showing an increasing negative attitude to Israeli Arabs. Even prior to the poll, its pretty shocking that 20% of Jewish Israeli’s thought Arab Israeli’s shouldn’t live in Israel: Mr Smooha, an Iraqi-born Jew and laureate of the Israel Prize, in sociology, termed as "grave" what his poll shows as the negative shift in Jewish perspectives on Arabs. The percentage of Jewish respondents who recognise the right of Arabs to live in the country as a minority with full citizens' rights declined from 79.7 percent in 2015 to 73.8 percent today. The number of Jews willing to have Arab pupils in their schools dropped from 57.5 percent to 51.6 percent. Those refusing to have Arab neighbours rose from 41 percent to 48 percent and the percentage of Jews who decline to enter Arab communities climbed from 59.3 percent to 63.7 percent.
Israel is 40% European Jews, 40% Middle Eastern Jews, and 20% Arab (Muslim, Christian, Druze and others). Israel is more multicultural than most of the world. And is there a country with "open borders"?
The argument put forth at 2:47 is highly problematic. The author clearly intends his point to be applied to the Palestinians, who by any measure have suffered terribly at the hands of Israel and its Zionist belief system. But the paradigm he offers is given as an example of the wide-ranging human condition, thus relevant to the historical experience of other communities and nations. He seems to be saying that to justify your actions by claiming victim-hood is unhealthy and unproductive. Unfortunately, victim-hood has always served as Israel's get-out-of-jail card (or rather, throw-the-Palestinians-in-jail card). Isn't the Rabbi being inconsistent in allowing one rule for Jews and another for the rest of us? When will he urge Israel and its leaders to ask, "What have I done wrong?"
Shalom, it isn't mankind's decision if Israel exists, it's Elohim's. Yehovah's Word said He would bring the nations against Israel to bring them into judgement. Let us pray for the healing of all hearts and minds in Yehoshua's holy Name

They say Jews deserve human rights when given Israel, but where is the human rights and justice for all those Palestinians who have been killed, misplaced from their homes and had everything taken off them?
Clarity can be found in the idea of 'denying Jews to exist as a community'. No matter who you are we can relate. Simply substitute an open space in for the word 'Jews' and extend it to every conceivable group of people including your own. What's not as clear is how to understand the relationship between the two questions of "What did we do wrong" and "Who did this to us?" No group of people will be homogeneous in it's beliefs and answers become less about the "we" and more about the "I".
Perfectly explained and I agree. Thank you for the grandiose and enlightening video, which is so important in this time of new anti - Semitism under various "guile" between poetry and the BDS campaign!
I am not a Palestinian, I am not a Jew, I am not a Muslim, I am a person just trying to understand this whole issue. If anyone is really informed on this matter and has some time to spare could you please enlighten me? At this moment I see a lot of argumentative tactics taking place to justify certain claims that the Jewish people are making (ie. any talk about human rights is the new anti-semitism; so any Palestinian or person talking about the Palestinians human rights is automatically an anti-Semite). I truly want to understand this complex situation, so if anyone can shed some insight I would be greatly appreciative (even if it’s just sending article titles; but I would prefer to engage in dialogue). Peace and love
A group of persecuted people forced themselves onto another who had done them no harm. The persecuted people had no one to take out their anger on except the indigenous people of the land and stripped them of their rights and dignity. Now, they're trying to ignore and rewrite history by spinning web after web of lies, causing the conflict to appear complex. It's not. Hyper racist colonial invaders came out of nowhere with brutal disregard for the local people. The local people never accepted them. So the invaders had to come up with lie after lie to appear as victims.
Antisemitism is the desire of destruction of the Jews. And making excuses to destroy Jews as a "noble" thing. And here's the inconvenient truth, when people justify the Othering of the Jews, they become vicious, cruel, evil, and stupid in the process. Reality then crashes on the antisemite with a vengeance. And in the end, the antisemite is trapped in a bunker, ranting and screaming how everyone except themselves are to be blamed for their failure.
If you wanted you could have investigated it on Google. Providing you really don't know, you must be a totally uneducated person, which is very strange and hard to believe. So yes,to quote the upper answer,up yours!
I don't really agree about that "When bad things happen to a group, they can ask one of the two questions - what did we do wrong and who did this to us-". I think that the group can ask what they did wrong that caused the people to do those bad things to them. I feel like it is denying what they did and trying blame on others rather than looking back of what they did. In my personal opinion, by the Balfour declaration, Jews do have rights to have the land of Israel but that does not mean they can harm the innocent people in Palestine.
The proclamation by British Empire, the supreme entity of colonial atrocity, makes Israel legitimate? Balfour was a deal between Stalin and Britain........legitimate?
“New Antisemitism is denying the right of Israel to exist”, says Sax. Israel is a political construct. Judaism is a cultural construct. Zionism is also a political construct. It would appear that what Sax is doing is to try to suppress discussion of political aims by saying that such discussions are anti-racist, which they are clearly not. The root of Judaism is Abraham. Abraham moved from Mesopotamia (Southern Iraq area) to the area of Israel where it is claimed that a mythical being, the existence of which there is no evidence, aka God, told him that he and his descendants are promised the land known as Israel i.e. a political claim based in mythology. Whilst I agree with the right of people to exist, it is the expansionist political aims of Zionists and the Israeli Government and oppression of existing residents (Palestinians) which people challenge, not the right of Jews to exist.
Yeah, right! Criticising Israel isn't antisemitism, is a democratic right of evryone! And today, a lot of people criticising the apartheid of Israel to Palestine. Thank's for say what isn't antisemitism. 1:09
The children of Israel are forbidden to live in the promised land. They are meant to live among the nation's that God put them in because of their disobedience to God, "don't take my word for it ,it's all in their own scriptures, God told them what will happen if they disobeyed him(detronomy). The promised land was given to the jews on a conditional basis instead of unconditional basis which means they must accept the God of abraham and keep his laws and commandments, unfortunately they violated the commandments and that's why they must live amongst the nation's that their punishment.
I don't understand. If that first definition of what anti-sematism is at 1:28, then simply saying "I hate Jews" is not anti-Semitism, nor is drawing swastikas on the synagogue wall, etc. That original definition at 1:28 seems like a very rare and fundamental case of genocide.
the acuard situation is difficulty in interacting with Palestinians. as blacks can not accept a free south as stated in Virginia, so Palestinians can not accept Israel.
Great video. However, it is missing one additional component of the psychology of hate. An old saying goes like this: "I you can't defeat them, then join them". Most successful groups, nations and even empires have gained acceptance from their enemies after the last group some how integrate with them. If this issue is included in the analysis, the question now becomes, what have we done wrong? How can we fix it? Next time you are approached by a non Jew, please think about how many 100s of millions of people, perhaps billions are desendants of Israel and Juda. Think about them as your own, be inclusive and you will see a quick shift. You will see a how individual persons become more accepting of you as a person. Furthermore, individual persons will also become accepting of Israel as a Nation. If you are with Israel, become an embassador and not a soldier.
So hating a violent expansionary state is the same as denying a people their right live? Jewishness is not a state. States come and go, the people live!
2:46 ironically that exact same line of reasonging could be directed toward the jewish community, rather than being eternal victims against unjustified hate
All states start as ethnostates and then evolve when they are stable enough to admit other ethnicities. Jewdism is both an ethnicity and a faith. Meaning you can become Jewish in two ways, like an American citizen can become American in two ways. One way to become Jewish or American is to be born form a Jewish mother, or an American parent, the second way is to study the Jewish or American values, adapt them as your own, accept the authority of Jewish law,, or American law, then you and your children will be just as Jewish or American as any other Jew or American. That is the model for becoming a citizen of Israel. I think they should evolve and give the "right of return" that they give to all jews, also to all Palestinian's. But before they can do that thye have to be more stable and accepting of all kinds of jews and then they have space to accept others as equal citizens
The Semitic race includes all the sons of Sem, the son of Noah, and includes the Arabs, the Canaanites and the Jews, but a German writer assigned it only to the Jews when they were suffering from persecution.
I don’t know enough about the specifics of Israel’s history to be any sort of authority on it. That said, I agree with this video’s overall sentiment, but it really lacks nuance. The author’s false-dichotomy of blame - we can ask “what did we do wrong” or “who did this to us” - alarms me. I don’t think it’s fair to deem the protests of Black Lives Matter as a form of scapegoating, but if the dichotomy presented were true, then one would have to call those demonstrations “scapegoating”. Sometimes people do shitty things to other people, and pointing that out when it happens is usually very helpful in preventing it from happening again. I’m not sure what the Allies of World War 2 would even do if all they could ask themselves was “what did we do wrong” in the face of the Holocaust or the Rape of Nanking. Furthermore, asking “what did we do wrong” can be answered with “we didn’t stop them from doing this to us”. Obviously the US, GB, France, and every nation ever would greatly benefit from asking “what did we do wrong” more often than they already do. Maybe it was a mistake for the US to exist at all: colonialism destroyed the majority of peoples and cultures native to North America, and even if that claim weren’t true, it doesn’t help to just to call it a form of scapegoating and not take it seriously. Human-rights give me a headache sometimes cause they are often conflicting. Is self-determination a human-right? Sure, but that obviously means that everyone has to respect everyone else’s autonomy. Personally, I think nationhood is more of a privilege than a right because of this very conflict. If a nation exercises its collective right to self-determination by violating the autonomy of others, then it would obviously be violating that right. But then wouldn’t it also be a violation to stop that nation from doing that? Yeah, technically. That’s why that right - absolute national self-determination - is not very useful.
Our dear Rabbi Sacks is an great voice of moral clarity and he has given a very compelling account of anti-semitism and the dignity of difference. However, in many ways it contradicts the spirit of the Tanakh and the Talmud: “How fortunate are you, O Israel. When you act according to the will of YHWH no nation or tongue can dominate you. But when you do not act in accordance with the will of YHWH you are delivered into the hands of a lowly people, and not only a lowly people but into the power of the beasts of a lowly people” (Babylonian Talmud, Ketubot 66b). “Rabbi Yehudah son of Shalom said, ‘Good or evil comes to the world solely on account of the children of Jacob!’ A certain [Roman] hegmon came to Rabbi Abbahu and said, ‘The entire world should assemble against you as against this locust-to obliterate you from the world in a single instant! For if this nation does not worship its Lord, it is written: He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, and the earth will not yield her fruit (Deuteronomy 11:17). If she strays, the entire world is destroyed on her account!’ He replied, ‘But it is you who cause her to stray and not to follow the proper path!’ He said to him, ‘It is your sins that rouse us!’ Rabbi Yehudah said, ‘The hegmon spoke well'” (Zohar Ḥadash 28c). And now, if you will truly heed My voice and keep My covenant, you will become for Me a treasure among all the peoples, for Mine is all the earth. And as for you, you will become for Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation (Exodus 19:5). And it shall be, if you do not heed the voice of YHWH your God to keep and to do all His commands and His statutes that I charge you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you… The sojourner who is in your midst will rise up high above you and you will go down far below. He will put you in debt and you will not put him in debt. He will become the head and you will become the tail. And all these curses will come upon you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed. For you will not have heeded the voice of YHWH your God to keep His command and His statutes which He charged you (Deuteronomy 28:43-45).
4:46 "it matters to all of us" .... but i can't seem to find the animation that represents black people.. please don't say its the guy in the FEZ.. It doesn't speak to me
Unfortunately, Jewish people have built an ironclad alliance with the political left, and usually despise the political right. But, if you look at who has been steadfast in the support of Israel since the beginning, it had been the right. Now, it's plainly obvious who is who, and the lefties are strong antisemites. However, your treatment of the right has soured our support for Israel to some degree. We don't support your enemies, but we probably won't be very generous in the future. I pray Israel will survive, but on this topic, I'll pray with my heart, not my wallet.
Most Jews are leftist! I'm not a Jew but that would mean that all the Hollywood Jews are fake Jews! or self-hating Jews? Someone once told me that the worst anti Semites are Jews themselves!
Lets also make this CLEAR, BDS was started by PALESTINIANS suffering occupation. Rabbi Sacks needs to account for the words of Archbishop Nobel Peace laureate Desmond Tutu who states on having visited Palestine/Israel: "I have witnessed the systemic humiliation of Palestinian men, women and children by members of the Israeli security forces... Their humiliation is familiar to all black South Africans who were corralled and harassed and insulted and assaulted by the security forces of the apartheid government... In South Africa, we could not have achieved our democracy without the help of people around the world, who through the use of non-violent means, such as boycotts and divestment, encouraged their governments and other corporate actors to reverse decades-long support for the apartheid regime... The same issues of inequality and injustice today motivate the divestment movement trying to end Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian territory and the unfair and prejudicial treatment of the Palestinian people by the Israeli government ruling over them." This was said in March 2014.
This analogy fails when you realize that denying the right of Israel to exist **as an ethnostate** is not denying the right of Jewish people to exist as a collective on the same basis as everyone else. The justification for Israel's foundation in 1948 involves a kind of special pleading that would not be applied to any other people. The justification for disestablishing an Israeli ethnostate would equally apply to all other ethnostates.
We were not church members growing up and I attended an Episcopal school that had lots of Jewish kids in attendance, my friends, some religious and others not so much. Bigotry was not in our make up. I don't really understand the upside. That being said I have learned to hate and distrust the narrow minded and bigoted among us. I try to understand but I don't make any great effort.
I'll tell you what causes anti-Semtism: the learning of Talmud and other עבודה זרה as though it were Torah. עבודה זרה = זרע הבודה The word הגויים (the gentiles) is exactly the same word as הגויים (learning - the letter ה is punctuated with חירק חסר). The Gentiles are brought into existence by our learning. They are the very embodiment of our thoughts, feelings and intentions when we learn Torah. They are our פנימיות externalized and made visible. So, if you don't like how they look - look only to yourself to blame. Because your learning is not true Torah learning you are bringing Gentiles into existence who are the reflection of your עבודה זרה. When we learn true Torah with love in our hearts and the desire for universal happiness and well-being we bring beautiful Gentiles in to existence. The Gentiles are the Rabbis' babies. If they are not loving - you have to look only at yourselves.
Joshua Balondo Their videos usually are Ashkenazis are just magically hated for no reason where ever they go They’ve been tossed from a 109 countries because they didn’t do nothin!
With respect I think what you are saying is accurate in a lot of ways but there is a lack of self criticism when you talk about Israel ... don't get me wrong but the majority of the people don't criticize Israel just because it's a Jewish State ... the reality it's that there were other people living there and they got kick out of their houses and those same people don't have the right to return among other things.. so please let's be just with all sides of the problem
Assad killed more civilians in the last 6 months than Israel did in the last 70 years combined, yet people don't try to boycott syria or protest about him all the time. There are dozens of muslim countries way worse than Israel that don't get bashed at all. 90% of the UN human rights resolutions are against Israel. The only explanation is antisemitism
So criticizing Israel is not antisemitism but denying Israel's right to exist is antisemitism? Isn't that contradictory because Israel does not equal Jews? Also I think most people who criticize Israel have a problem with how Israel is occupying someone else's land. It's the same with America - when someone criticizes America for taking the native's land and the way they treat the natives is that being racist towards Americans? Is criticism of Russia's takeover of Crimea anti-Russian, being racist towards Russians or just an opposition of the military action taken by the government, meaning it has nothing to do with the Russian people? This video was pretty good except the conclusion seems contradictory and it felt very biased towards the end. I'm not against Israel and I'm not being antisemitic, but this video makes it sound like any criticism of Israel as a state is automatically antisemitism which seems contradictory to your earlier statements.
MultiSciGeek Yeah well, being Jewish I can maybe explain it a little bit : Denying Israels right to exist is stupid and will never work but it's not antisemitism in theory, in practise it's a different story. The thing is that today lots of stupid & violent people assume that Jewish people almost by definition must be militant Zionists (this is of course extremely far from the truth), they hate militant Zionists so they physically and verbally attack Jews whenever they see us. Now you tell me, if that is not antisemitism, what is it then?
Adina Meissner Yes attacking Jews physically and verbally because of their religion/ethnicity is antisemitism. However not every person associates Jews with militant Zionists - the ones who do that are probably ignorant racist who are antisemites anyway and use "anti Zionism" as an excuse to be racist. It's also wrong to assume that everyone who criticizes Zionism or Israel is automatically antisemitic because "lots of people think Zionism and Judaism are the same thing" - so no, in that case being anti Zionist, criticizing Israel and even criticizing Judaism isn't necessarily antisemitism. I think that legit constructive criticism of Israel might be silenced by the notion that it's antisemitism... we should be careful to separate the two. Criticism and debate are part of the democratic process and Israel is a democracy.
MultiSciGeek I have family in Israel, very religious Jewish people, who are critical of the policies and practices of parts of the Israeli army and they define themselves as being anti-zionists. What you are talking about is criticising the right wing Israeli government, which is not synonymous to Israel. I’m not a fan Netanyahu, but you know what, the core of the problem is that the Arabs for most of the time since Israel’s creation didn’t want to negotiate with Israel, they have been offered a country of their own a number of times. What they want is to destroy Israel, if you listen to their media that is what they say again and again, and it is kind of hard to be generous to people like that.
Almighty YT Claiming that Israel has an ideology even remotely similar to white supremacy is just wrong. White supremacy is all about pure genes, skin color and the claim that one "race" (white europeans) are superior to ALL others. I doubt you could find 1 person in Israel who claims that Jews are genetically superior to all other people. When it comes to "whittle that down": In israel you can find both mixed religion couples & openly gay couples, some of them are even married. Where are those couples among Palestinians and in Arabic countries in general?
I stand with Israel as I always have and always will for I'm a proud Zionist therefore Israel will always have my support and love God Bless Israel ❤️❤️❤️🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱❤️❤️❤️
What did the Palestinians do wrong? And where is the Israeli governments ability to make space for them? Why do you conflate the existence of Israel with anti-Semitism? There are Jews who think Israel should not exist, there are more Jews who think what the Israeli government are doing is wrong. Personally I think there is space for both, but continued expansion of settler areas and less and less rights for the Palestinians, isn't helping or following your sentiments expressed in the video.
Liz T look at Gaza now, and then tell me who's being persecuted. Children being shot and maimed far from the border fence!! If you think this is acceptable then I suggest you look to yourself and see where blame lies. Occupation is occupation in any language, most people know what it means, trying to reassign the word to sit yourself doesn't really wash.
Liz T the question remains, "what did the Palestinians do wrong?" I doubt even you could suggest the people of Gaza deserve what they are currently getting.
Liz T Who's telling you they are terrorists? I don't suppose they have their own agenda, eh? Since all the people killed have been on the Gaza side of the fence is pretty clear the Israeli's have been during into another people land. I don't think you'd be very happy if your child was killed in you back garden because your neighbour thought they were going to trespass on you land!! Even you quote if true,"most" isn't all, so you seem to be admitting not ALL those killed had links to terrorism. What about the thousands who have been injured? You blinkers need lifting a little and start seeing the truth of what's happening. There is terrorism in Gaza not all of it is from Hamas.
You seem to be have trouble with reading, see if I can help, who's telling you the 32 are Hamas terrorists? Let's pretend the 32 were all terrorists, that STILL leaves 8 who died for no reason. Then let's look at the other 1,700 injuries are you really suggesting these are ALL Hamas terrorists? Or does that fit with what YOU want to ease your conscience. Once again going back to the video and what the good Rabbi said, "What did the Palestinians do wrong?" Emotional bias, by the way, if you have no emotions then what are you? That's the most ridiculous argument for killing anyone!
And allowing propaganda to cloud your vision means your happy to accept 8 innocent people being killed, that's STILL presuming your figure of 32 terrorists is correct. How do you know this; the IDF said so? You don't have to be emotionally influenced, your morals should do that for you. what if one of you family was one of the 8, you'd be happy with that? You keep blaming Hamas, but it's the Israeli's doing the killing and maiming, it seems to me that if this is what Hamas want, for publicity purposes, Israeli keeps falling for the same old trick every time. You'd think they might be cleverer than that. They fall for the same trick time and time again, surley a change of tactics might be in order. You keep saying 32 were terrorists but you seem to accept the other 8 and the thousands of injuries as acceptable, don't get emotional about it, get moral, and then tell me that's acceptable. Once again ask yourself what The good Rabbi said "What did the Palestinians do wrong?" I notice you can't seen to answer this question.
Does the Antisemetism against Palestinians hold the same importance ,since the Palestinians are SEMITIC ,and does the denial of the right to exist in their Palestinian state any less validity ?
Agreed Rabbi. I'm a Christian from Peru that just moved to the US over year ago. From what I see in here looking it from an unbiased perspective it's people mostly debating against or for the state of Israel, politically inspired, not really based on antisemitism or hated towards Jewish people. I myself feel very sympathetic towards the preservation of Israel. I think Jews finally deserve to have one of their own after many years of persecution.

Brilliant analysis, fabulous animation.
yeah but it's bullshit.
These resources often seem in short supply.,
Taking accountability for all of one's actions, not just the "good," seems out of style. Addiction to claiming victimhood is all the rage. Most of the greatest oppressors cloak their justifications for brutality in the garb of claiming victimhood.

2:46 is confusing. Groups who are persecuted should assume it's their fault?
Lex Francis Think abour this way, the world woke up in 2008 (I think) to finansical breakdown, because of something happened in the USA. But instead of saying "we are a fault" it was easier to say "Israel at faulr"
@Sharon Efee No, it's absolutely clear from what he says leading up to 2:46 that he's talking about the Palestinians. Whose 'human rights' could Rabbi Sacks is talking about apart from the Palestinians? It's pure victim-blaming and if someone spoke like that about Jews they would rightly be called anti-semitic.
"Groups who are persecuted should assume it's their fault?" No if they were expelled at least 109 times
May Rabbi Sacks memory always be for a blessing. Z'l

THANK you so much RAV SACKS. YOUR ANALYSES OF THE ANTISITISM IS GREAT AND TRUE.
Wow these are best videos ever made by anyone
Their right to exist.
Rabbi Sacks was a true mental gymnast.
There's plenty of people who say that the United Kingdom should not exist _in its present form_ (eg Welsh, Scots and Irish nationalists.) This also applies in many other polities.
I don’t see worldwide protests about it

Excellent! Thank you! I have a couple lectures that are a bit longer on the topic, but this is a great 5 minute summary!

Thank you, Rabbi Sacks.
I fear we/the world will learn/are learning the hard way.
I hate all hate but shouldn't Israel open its borders and become more multicultural too?
Israel has muslims and christians. There are 1.2 million Arabs in Israel.
That's also true. Some people would argue that Israel (the state, not Jews in general) is somewhat racist
So how do you explain this survey of 2017 showing an increasing negative attitude to Israeli Arabs. Even prior to the poll, its pretty shocking that 20% of Jewish Israeli’s thought Arab Israeli’s shouldn’t live in Israel:
Mr Smooha, an Iraqi-born Jew and laureate of the Israel Prize, in sociology, termed as "grave" what his poll shows as the negative shift in Jewish perspectives on Arabs.
@Confirmed Russian Bot the natives of Israel are the Jews, and they can all come. So your statement is false :)

Brilliant as always sir rabbi Sachs

If anyone is really informed on this matter and has some time to spare could you please enlighten me? The persecuted people had no one to take out their anger on except the indigenous people of the land and stripped them of their rights and dignity.

Very interesting. Nobody explains things as well as Rabbi Sacks!

I don't understand. If that first definition of what anti-sematism is at 1:28, then simply saying "I hate Jews" is not anti-Semitism, nor is drawing swastikas on the synagogue wall, etc. That original definition at 1:28 seems like a very rare and fundamental case of genocide.

Thank you. I love listening to your teachings. Blessings in plenty
the acuard situation is difficulty in interacting with Palestinians. as blacks can not accept a free south as stated in Virginia, so Palestinians can not accept Israel.

However, in many ways it contradicts the spirit of the Tanakh and the Talmud:
“How fortunate are you, O Israel.
“Rabbi Yehudah son of Shalom said, ‘Good or evil comes to the world solely on account of the children of Jacob!’
A certain [Roman] hegmon came to Rabbi Abbahu and said, ‘The entire world should assemble against you as against this locust-to obliterate you from the world in a single instant! For if this nation does not worship its Lord, it is written: He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, and the earth will not yield her fruit (Deuteronomy 11:17). If she strays, the entire world is destroyed on her account!’
He replied, ‘But it is you who cause her to stray and not to follow the proper path!’ He said to him, ‘It is your sins that rouse us!’ Rabbi Yehudah said, ‘The hegmon spoke well'” (Zohar Ḥadash 28c).
It doesn't speak to me
I'm assuming you're African-American. That was a picture representing people from African countries, not every group ever.
This is propaganda
No, what you listen to is propaganda
So is every political argument
How sick. How low can you go ? Nothing to do?
There are 22 Arab ethnostates in the world, bud. And Hamas wants to establish another Arab ethnostate.
Accidentally erased all my codswallop and twaddlepop, guess that amounts to an apology to Liz T.mecca lecca high Mecca hiney ho!
Free palastine ❤
Oy VA oy it was produced by white animations!!!!! Someone won't like that! 8-(
Thank you Rabbi Sachs !!!!
That's propaganda.

Blind dolt
We were not church members growing up and I attended an Episcopal school that had lots of Jewish kids in attendance, my friends, some religious and others not so much. Bigotry was not in our make up. I don't really understand the upside.
That being said I have learned to hate and distrust the narrow minded and bigoted among us. I try to understand but I don't make any great effort.
Hugh-John Fleming Well, isn’t that helpful. What an example to us all.
Hate speech is whatever we say it is....
Antisemitism is whatever we say it is....

I'll tell you what causes anti-Semtism: the learning of Talmud and other עבודה זרה as though it were Torah.
עבודה
זרה = זרע הבודה
The word הגויים (the gentiles) is exactly the same word as הגויים
(learning - the letter ה is punctuated with חירק חסר).
The Gentiles are brought into existence by our learning. They are the
very embodiment of our thoughts, feelings and intentions when we learn
Torah. They are our פנימיות
externalized and made visible. So, if you don't like how they look - look only to yourself to blame.
Because your learning is not true Torah learning you are bringing
Gentiles into existence who are the reflection of your עבודה זרה.
When we learn true Torah with love in our hearts and the desire for
universal happiness and well-being we bring beautiful Gentiles in to
existence.
The Gentiles are the Rabbis' babies. If they are not loving - you have
to look only at yourselves.
Your video is propaganda.
Joshua Balondo
Their videos usually are
Ashkenazis are just magically hated for no reason where ever they go
They’ve been tossed from a 109 countries because they didn’t do nothin!
I need someone to tell me why something is propoganda just when it justifies Jews and Jewish country.
@@sharonefee1426 Because it only scratches the surface of their crimes. It's always how they are "persecuted", but never digs deeper to find out why.
The video editing is great. The message, however, is just propaganda.

Bull kaka
Is this a parody?

Yeah well, being Jewish I can maybe explain it a little bit : Denying Israels right to exist is stupid and will never work but it's not antisemitism in theory, in practise it's a different story.
Adina Meissner
Yes attacking Jews physically and verbally because of their religion/ethnicity is antisemitism.

I have family in Israel, very religious Jewish people, who are critical of the policies and practices of parts of the Israeli army and they define themselves as being anti-zionists.
And what is your point?
Almighty YT Claiming that Israel has an ideology even remotely similar to white supremacy is just wrong. White supremacy is all about pure genes, skin color and the claim that one "race" (white europeans) are superior to ALL others. I doubt you could find 1 person in Israel who claims that Jews are genetically superior to all other people. When it comes to "whittle that down": In israel you can find both mixed religion couples & openly gay couples, some of them are even married. Where are those couples among Palestinians and in Arabic countries in general?
So this is a "fact" video? Nietzsche said something about facts....
LoL
Exqweez me .. who is Semit - who are Semits .. i thought that Thy are half way in skin color .. and half way between pools and equator

Once again going back to the video and what the good Rabbi said, "What did the Palestinians do wrong?"
Emotional bias, by the way, if you have no emotions then what are you?
Uh nope...If Israel wants to do "xyz," OK, but other nation states should not be made to pay for it.
Does the Antisemetism against Palestinians hold the same importance ,since the Palestinians are SEMITIC ,and does the denial of the right to exist in their Palestinian state any less validity ?
Is anyone here because of Ben Shapiro?
israel will rise to fight the great evil!
Beanmachine91
No they won’t
They’ll use whitey to do it for them like always
