- I finally put my hands on the most anticipated compact APSC camera of all time. I've been using it for one week and I wanted to share my thoughts on it.
Let's discuss it in my video

looks awesome! the video sample looks so good
Thanks! And yes the video is really good
Excellent review, love your style. Subscribed.
Thanks!
Excellent review,. Just picked up a X100vi in black this week. Also got the weather kit and a discreet JJC lens hood, both pair well together.
I haven't purchased any accessory yet... But I know I will
Thanks for observations, a very pragmatic view. Thanks.
Thanks a lot!
Nice video Luca. I attended a Fuji Launch Event in my favourite camera store here in the UK, Campkins of Cambridge, earlier this week. The camera really impressed me so I have pre-ordered one. I really like Fuji products and already own an X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, X-T5 and X-H2 and the X100VI will be a nice addition to my kit. Now I am eagerly waiting for the call to say my new camera is ready for collection.
You will love it
Well done - agree completely
Thanks!
I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the camera. Your images are striking - not just because of the image quality, but because of your obvious skill.
They were ok at best.
Cool, thanks. @@r423sdex
Thanks! I forgot to mention that those are jpeg out of camera.
Do you recall the film simulation you used?
thank you for the video samples
Thank you, it's one of those additions that deserved some samples
Great video Luca as usual; we discussed already about this camera's pros & cons. Maybe one day I will buy it, but more for its unique style than for other real reasons. At the moment, for street photography, I'm gonna use the XT5 + 23 mm F2
Thanks! Your combo is great, you don't "need" an X100VI... But it is definitely an interesting camera that gives different vibes
Good catch in regard to the imperfections of the cable door. Does yours also happen to make a clicking sound when slightly pressing down on the door?
Yes it does, I didn't notice that until you asked
About the uhs-i slot: the olympus em-10 ii from 2015 is about the same size and already has a uhs-ii slot. Not having it here remains weird.
For the rest: great camera! Really enjoying it so far.
It is unusual for sure, I agree, but the performance you get is good regardless so... Why bother?
And yes, it's a great camera
We will never know how good the performance in bursts could have been with a better card slot.
All we know is it was probably a cost cutting feature, just like not including the weather sealing ring in the package as standard for example.@@LucaPetraliaPhotography
Very good review Luca, but I especially like the way that you explain all the “WHY NOT’S” of this camera, such as the battery, the memory card, etc. I also like that you explained the distinction between sex and sexy🤣. After watching your video I’m seriously considering getting it just to have in the car when I’m out and about, I don’t need to change lenses when I’m in the butcher shop. I have a question about the built in flash, because of its position it’s possible to get “red eyes”, when I got the X-T4 it came with an EF-X8 (nice little flash for certain occasions), for “real stuff” I use the Godox V860-III, here’s my question, if I mount the EF-X8 on the this camera, is the “computer” smart enough not to fire both flashes simultaneously, or do you have to dive into the menu and tell it what to do? By the way, Fuji should pay you for making videos like this one. Be well, stay safe and have a great weekend.
Thank you Enrique. I believe this camera is made for those occasions you mentioned, even better if you live in an urban area, doing daily commute on your feet. It's the camera that can always be with you without getting in the way of your normal life
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography Thank you for the prompt reply, can you tell me anything about my flash question? (if you know).
@@Enrique-the-photographer apologies, I missed that. I haven't tried yet, but I'm sure they won't flash simultaneously. I remember having the ef-x20 (I believe that was the name) with the original x100 and back then it was smart enough to disable the built in flash while using the external one. I'll try and I'll let you know
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography Thank you so much Luca.
Loved the video Luca. Beautiful photos!
Thanks! Those are jpeg out of camera, I forgot to highlight that in my video
How are you finding the autofocus sound? I just got mine and was surprised how loud it is compared to my old x100s.
I haven't noticed anything "weird" with it. It is similar to that of previous models, as far as I remember

I think they went with uh1 because uh2 might have created a heat issue.
Not the slot itself, but the data flow that may come with it
Complimenti il taglio che hai dato al video è molto professionale sembra di vedere un video ufficiale di Fujifilm
Grazie mille Daniele
Hey there, this camera does have the newer 40MP sensor. So it’s huge difference in image quality.. I have the XT5 so I know what this sensor is capable of. Enjoy! Lucky you, am still waiting for my X100VI
Thanks man! I'm sure you'll love it! And yes the 40mp sensor is great
Got mine today and love it for the most part.
I wish the q button was raised as it’s hard to find and a couple more custom buttons. Frustrating how certain functions can be assigned to buttons but not the q menu.
The Q button isn't in the best position, I wonder where they could have placed it. To be honest in a week I only scratched the surface, I will definitely be back on buttons layout and potential improvements in a later video
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography I wish it was just slightly higher on the back.
Also the play button - I wish it was the bottom button like nearly all the other camera bodies I’ve used. Really confused me and keep hitting display instead
I think over time we'll get used to it. I will probably reassign the AE button to the Q and leave the Q menu to another function
@@LucaPetraliaPhotographyyes good shout. Think I’ll do that. Assign the eye focus or something to that button as I don’t mess with that as much
complimenti
Grazie!
Silver is indeed ‘sexy’ but attracts too much attention, IMO. All of my 5 of my Fuji rigs are Black for that reason, so as not to attract any unwanted attention.
You're 100% right on that
The silver version is certainly the classic look for a rangefinder camera and far more fashionable, but in my opinion, the black one is way sexier. It’s kinda like the difference between a pin-up picture of the 1940’s/1950’s with the girl in a one piece and a modern picture of a girl in a bikini. Both sexy images, but the bikini is way sexier…
I completely get it... Yet I prefer the silver, although it's just for this camera
great camera bur the poor battery / bigger files for 40 image sensor / fixed lens / price ....
The battery is more than fine. I've been shooting 2 hours of street photography and I just lost one bar... It's all about being smart while using it.
Bigger files are better for cropping, although it may be too much for day to day use. The sensor is great, and the lens is very good too
"Good enough" is a good argument. But an UHS II slot wouldn't have been very expensive, I suppose (1-5€?). An improved lens? Doesn't have to be clinical. It's really crazy that - even for their cash cow and completely overhyped best selling camera - they aren't able to improve or not willing. Incompetence? Probably not. Brutal cost management and/or extremely limited development ressources.
I think I covered those aspects in my video. The uhs2 slot is probably not about cost savings. I believe the difference in cost of probably in the range you mentioned. But allowing a much higher data rate would have required a different heat dissipation unit, much bigger. That would mean disrupting the camera design. Engineers had to choose... And they choose not to disrupt the camera, and rightfully so. The real world use for a Uhs2 slot in a camera like this is so negligible that the risk of breaking a perfect toy was just too high in this case.
It is also funny how the request for a new lens redesign comes out of nowhere. The lens resolves this sensor, it was already redesigned for the previous version. If it does what it's supposed to do... Why the need for something different?
Curious about your “improved” and “clinical”lens comment. Many reviewers say the lens resolves the 40MP sensor. I had the T & F, and now the V, and I upgraded due to the new lens being sharp at MFD which was the weakness of T/F. Yet many users wanting ‘softer & more dreamy character’ of the previous lens hence slapping those mist filter. Hence I do not know what you meant by ‘improved lens yet no need to be clinical’, if you believe that the lens is not able to resolve the new 40MP sensor, doesn’t it mean you won’t get ‘clinical’ sharpness, hence it’s ok?
The lens resolves the 40mp, I never said the opposite. However there are lenses that look sharper in the same sensor (all the new Fuji primes, for example). But while those lenses seem to be "too perfect" (clinical) at times, having a bit less character, this one doesn't get you that same vibe. It's sharp, but gets you a different vibe
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography yes I get you first time. My comment above was for @lumberjack actually
The fact it has some limitations and no option to changes lenses is a deal breaker for me. Shooting with an X H2 and X T3, spoiled me. My go to is the X H3 and the FUJI XF 16 to 80mm f 4 lens. The perfect combo for most situations.
That's why this camera isn't for everyone... It is more than understandable that the lack of flexibility may become an unsurmountable hurdle for many people
Is there an X H3 as yet? Think a fixed focus f2 semi wide should be sharper than an f4 zoom. An H2 and 16-80 are great but more than twice the size and weight. X100VI is a city and low key camera (in black of course).
Thanks God is not hollow lol
😅
Camera is likely great. But at that price not including a standalone battery charger is a very cheap move. Not to mention the awful camera strap.
Unfortunately that's the way everyone is going. I stopped complaining about that since I realized it's a lost battle
Mitch that’s a do-do comment, really…
So your conclusion is...not great, but OK.
Good way to make things up... It's a great camera for what it's made for
Talks about image quality, shows his face the entire time - come on
Did you know what you were talking about? Yawwwnn
