    8. Gym, hiking, biking or other physical activities done regularly

  • @adamknight5089
    @adamknight5089 Год назад +232

    I would add 3 more to make it a clean 10:
    8. Real estate - learn about pros vs cons renting and buying, learn laws of tenancy, capital gains tax, investment vs owning, and designs (houses, apartments, villas, townhouses, duplex)
    9. Social calendar - the more adult people you know, the more discounts + freebies you can get, get a calendar to record birthdays, parties, family meets, friends outings etc.
    10. Technology - master your PC, tablet, phone etc. Get a password manager so that you can login to everything, backup your data religiously, stay up to date and in warranty
    Honorable Mentions
    * Cleaning - Learn how to clean every surface properly, what products and tools needed, get a cleaning kit then replace pieces. Clean your home, office, car etc. regularly.
    * Cars - Learn to name + identify components of car, check prices of cars and items to know market costs, read car reviews and do test drives to stay in the know always

    I volunteered in an archive for a year after school and the whole thing with smalltalk with your colleagues was so weird to me.
    It was the first time in my life that adults treated me as an intellectual equal and it took a long time to just casually talk to them about their life and family (some of them had children older than me).
    Looking back I‘m so glad I did this job because it made me way more comfortable with talking to people that are intimidating because of their age or rank.

    • @MilnaAlen
      @MilnaAlen Год назад +16

      Interesting, I think my childhood was actually an advantage, I always got along with adults well and was included in conversations my mum had with friends. Certainly by the time I was 14 I was nearly an equal in the writing and woodworking courses I took with her, and not intimidated at all.
      My challenge has been time management and sticking to healthy habits, since as kid and teen I didn't really have any choice or control, just did what I was told.

    I used my down time at the beginning of the pandemic to finally learn how to touch type after 50 years of using the hunt and peck method. It has been a MAJOR game changer for my work at the computer. It was a bit easier to learn than I expected it to be and now practicing my typing has become a meditative practice that helps with my anxiety and depression. The pay off for learning this skill is way greater than I imagined!

    I completely agree about mending your own clothes. I've been thinking about this recently- I'd honestly have to watch a YT video before I was able to sew a button back on. And I'm in my late twenties! I also regularly throw out socks that get a hole in them. The total trainwreck of our economy now has me thinking I need to learn to darn them instead of just replacing 🙃

    • @emmanarotzky6565
      @emmanarotzky6565 Год назад +1

      I think most modern socks don’t work very well if you darn them. If you make any weird lumps the socks become unusable anyway, and if there is a hole it means that the whole thing is thin and worn out so you will just get more holes on the edges of what you repaired. In that case I think the time is worth more to you than the possibility of keeping something out of a landfill for a few more months at most.

    • @redgii_

    I think that with home repairs it really depends on the difficulty. I wouldn't mess with electricity or plumbing. If you live in an apartment trust me it's cheaper to hire a professional than to pay for your downstairs neighbor's apartment renovation after you accidentally flood his apartment.

    Cooking also helps a lot in managing your expenses, since you need to organize your budget to buy food and other consumables. I'd say cooking, accounting and housekeeping are the top 3, in my experience. Get yourself a few tools to fix basic stuff. Most basic repairs are easy to learn and master, as long as you have the time and patience for it. If you don't have the tools, it's also good to keep at hand the contact of trustworthy people who can fix it for you.
    Also, learn to manage your time and the space you live in. Unless you work from home, you'd want to return to a relaxing place after the daily struggle. Save time for yourself, keep a tidy space to chill for a while and do nothing.

    I like that this video is practical useful advice instead of the usual "drink water, prioritize yourself, and have a fun time!". Not that the latter is bad advice, but it is completely worthless if your sink has been broken for 3 days, there is a chair full of dirty laundry and you've been procrastinating that 20 minute task for over 3 weeks. All of the latter was me some time ago.

    When it comes to the political affairs, definitely research your local, state, and national politicians and government officials, but also the global organizations and entities that make major decisions about your country.
    Pretty much every government takes nearly half of your income through taxation, permits, registrations, tolls, restrictions, fees, inflation, etc... so it makes sense to explore your options and dedicate some time to stay on top of it.
    Don't just default to the established parties, like the Duopoly here in the US, but explore third parties and independent options, even if you are told that they don't have a chance.
