I'm a fan of the 348 and 71. Have one and have taken game with it, hope to take more but health issues are putting a dampner on that. Look forward to seeing videos of you hunting with yours.
Thanks for All of your Hard work and Effort to show us the Real Power of the 348! I own a 1937 Deluxe and referred to your videos extensively before making my decision, just thought you would like to know!
I've only recovered two North Fork bullets, both from larger game animals. They looked exactly like the ones you got out of the gel, perfect mushrooms. I guess I should mention all were 1 shot kills.
Interesting bullets wonder how would they perform against regular Cinder blocks filled & hard pack with sand ? Or something that would simulate 🦴 and Cartilage or muscle. ?? As always you bring interesting projectiles to to the Table 😁 ! I personally don't mind your shooting place is cozy home type , but I would like to see a longer distance if you have it ! Blessings 🙏 dear brother and 2 Ur Fam 💚😎🤙 no
Thank you once again for such an educational demonstration. Those are awesome projectiles and in terms of quality, penetration and expansion. Not only so, but in a rifle caliber, that may be one of the most overlooked big game cartridges ever developed. By using the 50-110 parent case, Winchester produced a cartridge with 35 caliber…PLENTY of frontal space for any North American big game…but also a tapered case which ensures no extraction problems that interfere with follow-on shots. I know a bear guide who’s been guiding Kodiak brown bear hunts in Alaska for the past 30-plus years, and while scouting alone, he carries an original Model 71. That speaks volumes for the potential of this fine old cartridge and the reliability of the Model 71. I’ve got three of them including a 1937 “Long Tang” and in my humble opinion, there are few rifles that point, shoot and get into action or achieve follow up shots any faster than this fine weapon! Thanks as always for a great video.
Good work. I've always wanted a 348 among a lot of levergun calibers. That would probably be the do all levergun. Deer to big bears it should handle everything with the appropriate loads. What say you? Keep up the great videos I look forward to them all. 👍 😊.
I'm curious how blackpowder would do in the 348 AI. Testing light and heavy loads in the 348 ackley improved, since I believe it can hold a little more powder than the normal 348. Though it's probably a dumb test, and a bp mess, but also sounds like fun.
So the core severed in two on the boards? I think I see what happened. The 71 and .348 is one of my favs. Went to the website it looks like kinda hybrid with lead only in the nose. Interesting. Mountain man
Curious if these are the NF percussion points. I don't believe the semi Spitzer solid shanks would be shedding the nose the way these seem to be doing.
I don’t know if they’d expand out much in a whitetail but a big old grizzly or Kodiak now they would get tested big time. Great video brother as always. Holler at me soon be safe and GOD BLESS
Interesting to know these days, if the Winchester 71 was chambered either for a .338 caliber or a .358 caliber, it would be much easier to get ammo for.
Right now I think you can get bullets from north, fork and hawk and you know I had a video of them hammer bullets at work really good and also I believe cutting edge has Bullet
WOW!!! I love the M71/.348, keep on bringing them Brother!! BTW, if You could just clean up Your range and maybe modernize it a little I believe Your channel would really grow, anyway, I’ll watch all of them!!!( I really hope You don’t take this the wrong way.)
I appreciate your honesty, I shoot so many water jugs. It sure does make a mess long with boards and stuff., i’ll try to keep the stuff picked up, but I’ll try to do a better job
@@Leverguns50 Hi again, thanks for Your reply, I’ve been doing a little binge watching and all I can say is You must be the most recoil tolerant You Tuber in the world!! Many years ago a Friend and I helped Charlie Boswell develop His Comp-N- Choke tubes. This required lots and lots of pattern testing with many of the magnum Turkey loads on the market,(mid nineties), and I quickly developed a bad taste for shooting them in short barrel Turkey guns. So when I see that.50-140 rock You I just cringe. Keep up the great vids and don’t pay any attention to an old Man’s ramblings. Your biggest Fan in Martinez Georgia, Jimmy Hubbard. P.S., if You ever need a good shoulder Dr. I’ve got one.
Another cool video ! For anyone who doesn't know, that is basically how military m193(and theoretically m855/ss109) 5.56 bullets work too.they break in half , base travels In a straight line ,tip(ogive to meplat) deform and makes a separate wound channel .it flattens ,bends and tumbles with a 5.56 instead of mushrooming like the .348 did. The unseen bit here is when a bullet breaks in half (usually at the cennelure if there is one) jacket fragments fly off in 90° tangents to the main wound channel as well. Making the temporary wound cavitation become a " self cutting" action.
I wanted to use a Northfork on my Cape Buffalo hunt in Zimbabwe. My PH said NO! His feeling was they penetrate too deeply and create too much risk when shooting a dangerous animal potentially in a group. Might hit a second animal which could be both expensive and dangerous!
Just got back from the range, surprisingly there were a number of lever guns out there today
👍😊 and still flipping gel block.
Nice vid! I love the 348 and my 71
Me too
Has always been a awesome video. Thank you for sharing. 🇺🇸
71s are AWESOME !! GREAT test.

Hey brother I pray y’all are doing great Amen 🙏
Big game bullet that's for sure !
Thank you for putting this video together and God Bless You And Family .
Thank you
I've always wanted one of those rifles and calibers. Thanks for the great review and info.
You are welcome
The 300 sav. 450 Marlin guide gun are 2 of my favorites. But the model 71 348 win is my favorite rifle.
All these are followed up by my Ruger 1s.
Dang impressive! I sure like watching that jello bounce.
My all time favorite rifle! Thank you.
Hot bullet....😮......The gelatin was awesome....the camera wipe out was a fun ride..... great video....
That’s a energy dump now wow. I seen the fire inside the first block that’s interesting when that happens

Glad to help, I really appreciate you letting me know and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy that classic lever action
Those bullets look to be very efficient game getters. Great video. Thank you LG 50-110!
They are great bullets, glad you found the video

a conversation between you and ron spomer would be interesting. that looks like an effective round I like it.
One of my all time favorite rifles thr Model 71 .348. Must try this bullet. Seems outstanding.
I think they’re really awesome Bullet

I would have to agree with you that the Winchester model 71 and the 348 cartridge make the handiest lever action ever created
@@Leverguns50 ❤
Another great video. You don't hear much avout this round and rifle anymore.
Man that’s a big ol bullet! That would be a great bullet for a big ol bore hog! Thanks for sharing brother!!
You are welcome
Good bullets for just about anything
Muy bueno tu vídeo saludos desde Argentina
Thank you
Always good to get some .348 love! Good tough bullet.
Thank you
I have been waiting for these bullets to come to Canada...any thoughts on accuracy? I have them in 300 grains for the 405 Win and they are dandy!

I think with that particular, Bullet, you could probably take on almost anything

I am hopeful to pickup a 71. Wanted one since I was teenager. Now I'm old and retired, but never too late right?
I can't see why this cartridge isn't more popular, it's actually as ballistics goes similar to the 3006😮
It probably would’ve been, but it come out in the middle of the great depression
Love that 348. Good video.
Thanks 👍
Curious if these are the NF percussion points. I don't believe the semi Spitzer solid shanks would be shedding the nose the way these seem to be doing.
These are just soft nose bullets with a pure lead core and a solid copper base
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
All the way through I seen it come out towards the bottom of the last jug
I don’t know if they’d expand out much in a whitetail but a big old grizzly or Kodiak now they would get tested big time. Great video brother as always. Holler at me soon be safe and GOD BLESS
Great point!

No, the only other caliber ever come in, was three or four rifles come in 45,70
@@Leverguns50 Yeah, was just commenting how difficult it is to find .348 bullets.
Right now I think you can get bullets from north, fork and hawk and you know I had a video of them hammer bullets at work really good and also I believe cutting edge has Bullet
@@Leverguns50 Glad there's options. Just seems like it's marginally more popular than the .405 Winchester.
Lol that's some power make a great north American game rifle
Lost the bid on the 71. Dang it.
I Love The .348 Winchester in The Model 71 😀😊❤️❤️❤️❤️😀😊😎 Brother
Thank you, it’s one of my favorites too
Maybe I missed it, what is the velocity of that load?
2450 fps
@@Leverguns50 thank you.

Once I figured out how to handle it, it doesn’t really bother me unless I’m shooting off the bench, then, for whatever reason it becomes a real chore
🤠👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you
I wish someone would send me some gel blocks I’d like to try a couple of my rifle rounds out if it would stop them

Massive trauma for sure
Interesting video. That's some odd looking bullets , but I like what they did. What you reckon velocity was close up , maybe around 2700 ?
2450fpsI went up to 2470, but then I backed off I might can get up to close to 2700 in the 348 AI
RUclips wont let me like ur vid
Like nice folk phone numbers on utube?
That's just nasty 😂 chow next time sure.
It looked like the copper jacket was spiraled that was probably why it broke off like that I think anyways
Too bad they are producing these fine bullets any longer.
They just sent these to me so they must still be making them
@@Leverguns50 Looking them up online for some. Shows none available. Hope your right!!
@@cw2a Reloading International has North Fork. Still produced....
To much video of gel being flip😅and you are to confusing on the explanation.
Thanks for your input, sorry for the confusion
What is the purpose of the textured shank of these bullets?
I think it’s to cause it to slide through the board smoother And not build up a lot of pressure, think I’ll will out of the 348 AI as well
