It's always so nice when Desi includes Jared in her videos, they are such a lovely and charismatic couple and their chemistry is very nice to watch ❤🎄 Thank you both for this lovely video - sending love from Australia!
Thank you for saying that! 🫶🏻 Jared really enjoyed being in this one. I think we’ll make this a tradition at the end every year to share our thoughts about all our favorite books of that year ☺️
I totally agree! Lord of the rings style sagas all the way here, even in movies unless they're old golden age of cinema movies, so great to see some new exciting sagas recommended. Romances for the sake of romances just never seem to hold my interest, but a good saga - such a treat!!!
I absolutely LOVED seeing Jared's reading taste! He's so much fun. And he's absolutely right about Tress of The Emerald Sea. Brandon Sanderson wrote it because he and his wife were watching The Princess Bride and his wife wished Buttercup played a more active role in the story. So Tress of The Emerald Sea is basically a fanfiction of what would have happened if Wesley got kidnapped and Buttercup needed to save him. Desi, I know this book is right up your alley. You would LOVE it.
You will absolutely LOVE The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden: it’s the ultimate Russian fairytale, set in winter 🥰 it has magical creatures, friendly house spirits, witchy main character and it’s just overall my absolute favourite book of this year!!
I read The Bear and The Nightingale a couple years ago and I think I just didn’t read it at the right time for me because I didn’t love it 🙁 But I think I’m going to try reading it again! The winter atmosphere was incredible ❄️
I did love The Bear and the Nightingale series a lot-one of my favourite series and reading in the heart of winter is a must! I thought I’d add that if you’re looking for something similar but a bit more accessible, I really recommend Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Great winter read with an Eastern European folklore fairy tale vibe.
Ok, that was SO fun and adorable with the two of you! Such a cozy video and it was really wonderful to get both of your recommendations. I’m excited to read these books; thank you!

It was so great to have Jared join in!! His choices would be everything my husband loves to read also!! I had the hardest day all year yesterday of challenging my introvert personality and this morning I woke up and cuddled with my dog and cat on my bed and started watching your video and it brought tears to my eyes as it feels like it was just made for me after such a challenging day yesterday. I added a few of your recommendations to my Christmas wishlist and Jared, I am sending this video to my husband for him to watch now too. Thank you to both of you!!!
Anytime you have book recommendations I take notes in my phone. Thanks to you for the past couple of years, I have found genres that bring me joy and comfort. I lost my love for reading as an adult as I went through my internship to become a dietitian. Now everyday after work and on the weekends, I love drinking my coffee and losing myself in my books. I cannot thank you enough for bringing back that spark to my life.
You make me wanna buy and read every single one of these books! The way you describe them not giving away too much, just enough... amazing and thank you for uploading!
I wanted to spend time talking about *why* I liked it, rather than explaining too much about it. I probably should have said a bit more about each book, but I’m still glad you enjoyed it! ☺️🫶🏻
Thoroughly enjoyed it ❤ Like all your lovely and cozy videos that inspire me to put more effort into celebrating each season (especially fall) do seasonal activities and decorate my house ❤
Same here! I am a new reader (much thanks to your videos inspiring me) and I am not a fan of romance so much! I appreciate Jared’s recommendations so much! You guys are amazing
Absolutely loving getting to see more of Jared in these videos! My husband loves the perspective and personality he brings because he’s always saying “that’s exactly what I was thinking Jared!” or “that’s totally what I would do/say” 😂 Jared and I totally share taste in books too so I absolutely loved all his recommendations! They’re basically all on my TBR now haha. Ya’ll make me so happy and I love you together 🥰
Yes to The Wheel of Time show!! My husband read the whole book series (I did not) and it did really bother him in the beginning that the show wasn’t in line with the books. However, he was able to eventually look past it and we both really enjoy the show 😊 He really enjoys seeing me be shocked by things he knows are coming and I love getting extra details from the book after watching something happen.
I love to see Jared's taste in books! He and I have closer taste in books. I would love to follow both of you on Goodreads if y'all are on it. I love getting new recommendations like this from books I haven't heard of or wouldn't even think to look twice at! I can't wait to hear what you read for December/winter. 😊
Your videos are so good for my sanity! When I feel the mom overload of each season, I love to watch your videos and be reminded to slow down and enjoy the beauty in each…. If you haven’t already experienced it, you must read “Scarlet” the sequel to “Gone with the Wind”. At the end of the book or movie either one, I am always holding my mouth and breath swearing Rhett isn’t going to leave. My husband gets a kick out of it. Well when I found out that there was a part two and bonus it is focused around Scarlets Irish roots and historically true Irish history… well I have read it several times! Don’t waist your time with the movie. Such a let down but the book… oh my goodness. You will love it.
For me the most heartwarming thing about this video is seeing a man that reads because in the UK, men just don’t. My ex prided himself in the fact he’d only ever read one book in his life - and he was 35 at the time!! Kudos to Jared for bucking this trend and being confident enough to vlog it.
Yes! I totally agree! Where are all the male readers in the UK hiding? 🤔 My partner is a music guy but he does buy me books and if I'm debating between 2 books he buys me one so I can buy the other so I can't complain too much! 🫣
I live in the UK and my boyfriend started reading when he realised how much peace and joy it brings me, now he reads more than I do 😁 not quite ready to get his own library card yet, maybe in a few years or so
Really? I wonder why they don't read? I am in the US and my husband of 25 years has always read more than me... - he never takes a break from reading...
I will always and forever recommend The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. It's good people on a cosy space journey, it's inclusive and welcoming and uplifting, and it makes me a better person every time I read it.
My husband has read a lot of the Wheel of Time books, and we watched the series together and both enjoyed it. He definitely pointed out all the differences to me, but said he didn't mind them.

So happy to see Jared sharing his favorite reads even though he was a little nervous! As someone who was camera shy for the longest time, I relate. But am so excited he went outside of his comfort zone to share. It was nice getting two similar but still quite different perspectives on 2023 reads :)
Loved this ❤ Will you guys PLZZZ do a video on your reading habits. Like when you read, how you read (physical, audio, both etc), how you fit in to your day, tips to get into reading/read more, reading goals etc. I mean Jared is 7 books into a series he started inOctober 🤣 I need alllll the tips! I WOULD LOVE IT 😅
You two are two peas in a pod ! So cute together !! “ Slewfoot” has to be hands down my favorite book this year ! I’ll be rebuying it in hardback to add to my collection! Thanks you two for more recommendations on good reads ! Can’t wait to dive in ! Stay safe and feel better !! ❤. Happy reading ❤❤❤
This video came on autoplay like a dose of "this is what life should look like" and a big audio hug. Thank you for being what seems the only corner of the internet that makes sense. And thank you for honoring your limits with your illness. With so many youtubers extolling the virtue of productivity at all costs, the internet can be a lonely place for people struggling with one or more similar issues as you've described yourself as having. And to have one woman on the internet honoring her health and capacity as an example cannot be appreciated enough. Thank you thank you thank you Desi for being one of the only truly happy relaxing influences some of us might see all day or even all month in this insane culture we live in. For perspective, I think I heard something to the effect that every two days our world produces the same amount of data as has been generated since the beginning of the world until 1900. Your dedication to helping us feel okay in the midst of that daily atomic bomb of information especially in a young not as traditionally cultured culture as America cannot be appreciated enough.
So great to see you both on camera! Desi, I’ve already read about a dozen books this season because of you. I’m so glad I stumbled across your content. I needed the gentle shove back toward reading. It beats the heck out of watching more reruns!
I don't know if you'll see this comment but this was by far your best video ever (granted all your videos are perfection). But the simplicity of this video- the aesthetic, the lighting, the coziness and two people so in love talking about books they are absolutely passionate about is something else. Now that you've given us the taste of this cosy sit down video with Jared you will have to make this a regular thing (of course no pressure) absolutely in love with this video ✨🤍
I highly recommend the Pages and Co. series. The sixth and final book came out this year so you can binge the whole series. It’s middle grade but pure joy for book lovers.
It has been many years since I have read Stardust. I did read Lost Coast Literary and was surprised by its story and found it to be so nice. Jared is great on screen. Dragons win for your reading this year. The Tress book is in my to-read list. It is nice to hear good things about it. This was sooooo cute. I recommend the series "Before the Coffee Gets Cold" which is about time travel in a cafe! It was one of my favorite books I read this year (I have read the first two but the fourth book just came out and i need to catch up).
This worked out so well for you to have Jared there as well, since there are so many people who love high fantasy. This was such a great video. Loved it!
The colouring in video is so pretty. It is fun to have Jared join you and you both look so cute in your sweaters. 🙂 I always enjoy your book recommendations and how enthusiastic you are about them. ❤ Happy December, dear Desi.
It was so great to see you both! Now I need to pick up some Brandon Sanderson books after hearing Jared talk about them! 🙂 Some of my favorites that I think you'd also enjoy include: The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Among the Beasts & Briars, the Whimbrel House series from Charlie N Holmberg, and (as someone else also mentioned) the Winternight Trilogy series from Katherine Arden. They are all fantasy adventure with magic ✨
Love seeing Jared in the video. This was as cozy as ever. The set up and the sweaters made me feel like a kid watching Christmas/winter specials in the 90s in all the best ways. I have to add some of these books on my list. I also fully agree with Jared, as a fantasy reader, I don't mind romance but it's not why I read the book.
Please please PLEASE - do more videos like this with Jared! I love both of your books - I love each and every one of Jared’s suggestions - so would love to get more rec from him! Love you guys! From me in the UK! Xx
I think this video is so cute. love jared joining you Desi, for the wrap-up. high fantasy is such an extensive genre. even though you guys have different tastes, it shows that youre both passionate about reading. Slewfoot is on my audbile wishlist, so i'll probably be listening to that. wishing you good books this December!
Oh I love this!! Nice to see you both together 😊Jared, 'The Wheel of Time' was my absolute favourite series growing up, and I still enjoyed the TV series... so I think you should give it a try 🤩It isn't very faithful to the book, that's true, but I didn't mind as it was so beautifully cinematic and packed full of adventure. Merry Christmas!
That was fun! Adding a check mark since you answered a question as to whether Jared is an avid reader like you Desi and it was so fun to hear you both talk about your reading favs for the year. Thanks for sharing Jared with us and look forward to his guest appearances when you can squeeze him in! 🙂 hah
This was so fun! Loved seeing the different tastes you both have. You should make it a yearly thing! I also read Wheel of Time this year and I have a feeling that Jared will have so much fun when he gets to the last books in the series that Brandon Sanderson wrote on behalf of Robert Jordan. I'm such a Brando Sando girlie and Tress was definitely my top read this year.
So loved seeing you both and hearing about your fav reads!! If you haven't, I HIGHLY recommend reading The Rose Gate by Hanna Sandvig! It's my new fav book of all time (tied with Austen's Emma and Tolkien's The Hobbit). I SO hope you try it!!
And you did such a great job with your reviews, Jared! It’s so fun to see you BOTH doing them and so neat to see you on more videos! Bravo! 💖💖 You two are two peas in a pod! So cute and adorable! So happy for you two! You make sooooo many people happy with your videos and your book recommendations! You don’t even know! Thank you both! And Desi-you’re so beautiful and adorable!
PLEASE do more of these! This was such a good cozy hug! Loved seeing both of your best reads and now my TBR grows yet again! Lol ❤ but seriously this video was so comforting after a tough week
Darling Desi and Jared, love your recommandations and will be adding every single one to my 2024 tbr. Hope you'll recover soon from the cold & have a wonderful December :) Ps. some favourite 📚: Small things like these (January), The Alice Network (March), The Cat Who Saved books (May), Beach read (June), Shuggie Bain (also June, but wouldn't recommend to everyone as it's really devastating, bleak, heartaching), A Wrinkle in time (July), The Island of Sea Women (August), Please look after mom (September), The Haunting of Hill House (October), A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series (October to November) & Wuthering heights (November) - my reading taste is mostly magic, sadness, family or murder (sometimes all 4) :/
Joe Abercrombie for Jared! Watched this with my husband and he likes very similar books as Jared and Abercrombie is his favourite. Loved seeing you guys do this video together!
Jared’s reading style is similar to mine! I loved getting to hear both of your takes on the books this year. If you haven’t- I HIGHLY recommend reading all of the throne of glass books. They get better and better as they go- fantasy romance in the best way. All the things that tie together. Once you get to heir of fire, it’s just phenomenal. The first couple are great, but the entirety is what makes it so well done. Fourth wing was amazing, the dragons are my favorite part. Iron flame- not the best written book but the story was so so good. I got stuck in the middle feeling unsure, but then as a whole just really loved the story! Excited to read Brandon Sanderson this coming year and can’t believe I haven’t yet! Divine rivals was so deeply satisfying as a book, can’t wait for the next book. I hope you both continue to share your favorites. Literally adding all of Jared’s fantasy picks to my wishlist!
I love you Desi, so much, thank you for showing up every time when I need a cozy homy feeling, I appreciate how Jared looks at you. you're my fav youtuber
Thank you for recommending The Wishing Game! I was struggling to find a fiction book that would get me excited to read again after years of not reading much or just non-fiction. And thanks to your partner for joining you, because it made the video stand out in the sea of young women recommending books 😅 I'm not far into the book, but so far I am loving it.
Happy Holidays Desi & Jared (& the fur babies)🎄I'd love to see a reading vlog with both of you reading the same book. Also I really enjoyed Fourth Wing, such a fun time. I'm listening to the Iron Flame audiobook right now, and The Divine Rivals is on my TBR. Oh and I love Stardust, book & movie ✨
I love your videos so much!!, I honestly rewatch your videos so many times, they just transport me to such a happy place and your spirit and vibe is just so calming I love you!!!
Wheel of Time - I adore this series so much. My husband and I both read it AND watch the series and can highly recommend it to you. We don't mind that it isn't always exactly how it is in the books, because the series does a very good job to be truthful to the characters- which we care about the most. The first episodes of the first season are quite ok, it gets better with every episode though - and the second season is brilliant, in every way! Must watch, in my opinion. NIce to see you both again, missed you !
Starling house was honestly my favorite book of the year. I still get chills thinking about that book 😂 thanks for another awesome video. I’m glad Jared shared his recs. My fiancé has been wanting to get more into reading novels (he only reads mangas at the moment) and he loves fantasy so I’m going to send him this video. Thank you guys and happy holidays!! ❤
I wanted to recommend Jared to read Red Rising by Pierce Brown. It’s a phenomenal series . I know he’s usually more dragon fantasy but this is incredible sci fi best story ever! He’ll love the characters . And Desi you’re need to read Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier! My favorite book ever. It’s so you, too.
I love that I'm a hybrid of your reading tastes. I got a bunch of new recs from Jared! Tell him that I think the show is worth it! go into it knowing it isn't identical to the books but honestly still really enjoyable. (my dad and I watch it together when I visit for the holidays and we both really like it!)
@@TheDarthSoul I loved hearing Brando Sando so much! I hear that name many many times a week in our house because of my husband! 😂 Also, I’m curious what you both would think of the Skyward series! I’m pretty sure Desi would love it, and I think you would like it quite a bit too! It’s full of intrigue and a little intense occasionally for a YA book. And it’s Brando Sando! Need I say more?
I haven't read the books but I watch the Wheel of Time tv show and overall enjoy it! Imo, it's a grower...s1 starts slower and i didn't warm up to most of the characters except Moiraine and Lan. S2 i actually liked much better and i was really impressed with the number of well-written, complex female characters. Of course it's easier to watch adaptations without reading the source material, but from an objective standpoint, I'd recommend!
My reading taste is very similar to your husband's and I wish we had more high fantasy oriented channels on booktube. I wrote down a lot of his recommendations 😃 And I am looking forward to reading Slewfoot so much! I feel like it might exactly be my kind of story. I wish you both a cozy and magical christmastime! 🌲🌟

I loved this video! It was so fun to see both of you sitting together discussing books! Would love to see this style more often. 🥰
Jared reads my kind of books! I added a bunch to my list. Thanks for bringing him along for this one! Great video ❤️
I love how Jared sat down with you in this video! You guys are such a cute and friendly couple ❤️ I hope you guys are enjoying the cozy season!!!
So great to see you both on camera! Desi, I’ve already read about a dozen books this season because of you. I’m so glad I stumbled across your content. I needed the gentle shove back toward reading. It beats the heck out of watching more reruns!
I loved this video! It's great for Jared to make a longer appearance. :)
That makes us so happy! ☺️ Thank you for watching!
You guys are the cutest couple❣️🧿 and true kindred spirits🥹 and Desi, I whole heartedly love u and ur book recommendations❤
You're videos are so great and are exactly what someone needs after a long week, thank you so much ❤
I hope you take some time to relax and enjoy the weekend! Thank you for being here! 🥹🫶🏻
@DarlingDesi ❤️
I started reading again thanks to the inspiration from you Desi!✨Thank you
I highly recommend the Pages and Co.
You guys are adorable! My tastes align more with Jared's, but I love hearing what you're reading Desi.
This worked out so well for you to have Jared there as well, since there are so many people who love high fantasy. This was such a great video. Loved it!
I love that you sat down and did a video together! 🥹👏🏻
Y’all are just so sweet together 🥹
The colouring in video is so pretty. It is fun to have Jared join you and you both look so cute in your sweaters. 🙂 I always enjoy your book recommendations and how enthusiastic you are about them. ❤ Happy December, dear Desi.
I think Jared is really good at describing his favorite books!! Being too hard on himself haha. Love you both! 💙
It was so great to see you both! Now I need to pick up some Brandon Sanderson books after hearing Jared talk about them! 🙂
Some of my favorites that I think you'd also enjoy include: The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Among the Beasts & Briars, the Whimbrel House series from Charlie N Holmberg, and (as someone else also mentioned) the Winternight Trilogy series from Katherine Arden.
You have to try Mistborn, Desi. I’m not that into high fantasy but loved this series and am ready to start my next Sanderson series.
I’m obsessed with having both you and Jared sit down and give us your favorite books! Loved this video!
That was fun! Adding a check mark since you answered a question as to whether Jared is an avid reader like you Desi and it was so fun to hear you both talk about your reading favs for the year. Thanks for sharing Jared with us and look forward to his guest appearances when you can squeeze him in! 🙂 hah
Fellow fantasy nerd here! Loved hearing Jared talk about his favorites this year!
Brando Sando! The end of Lost Metal had me sobbing. Mistborn is a great series! I hope you read it Desi!
I hope you guys do this again next year! Jared sold me on Brando Sando
And you did such a great job with your reviews, Jared! It’s so fun to see you BOTH doing them and so neat to see you on more videos! Bravo! 💖💖
You two are two peas in a pod!
Hope you'll recover soon from the cold & have a wonderful December :) Ps. some favourite 📚: Small things like these (January), The Alice Network (March), The Cat Who Saved books (May), Beach read (June), Shuggie Bain (also June, but wouldn't recommend to everyone as it's really devastating, bleak, heartaching), A Wrinkle in time (July), The Island of Sea Women (August), Please look after mom (September), The Haunting of Hill House (October), A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series (October to November) & Wuthering heights (November) - my reading taste is mostly magic, sadness, family or murder (sometimes all 4) :/
Ok, Jared might need to start his own channel 🤭 It was a nice change seeing the both of you in a sit down video. Happy reading for both of you ✨
Jared needs to start his own booktube! Love all the fantasy recommendations ☺️
I’m on my Maas kick too reading Crescent City!
Joe Abercrombie for Jared! Watched this with my husband and he likes very similar books as Jared and Abercrombie is his favourite.
Loved seeing you guys do this video together!
Wow❤
This is a goal now...revisiting all the books read in a year with my loved one..in a cozy candle lit December night ✨☕
Thank you for such a gorgeously cosy video of book recommendations, I truly enjoyed it. I hope you are both feeling better soon ❤
This was the perfect time for this video. It’s the season to gift books and you’ve given us some great choices.
I love you Desi, so much, thank you for showing up every time when I need a cozy homy feeling, I appreciate how Jared looks at you. you're my fav youtuber
SLEWFOOT is da bomb. The AMAZING artwork provided in the book helps visualize the characters even more!! So glad you enjoyed it.
it was so nice to see Jared 🥰 lovely video ❤
The way you look at Jared is BEAUTIFUL. And he looks at you the same way. I hope you both have the best lifelong relationship.
Thank you for recommending The Wishing Game! I was struggling to find a fiction book that would get me excited to read again after years of not reading much or just non-fiction. And thanks to your partner for joining you, because it made the video stand out in the sea of young women recommending books 😅
I'm not far into the book, but so far I am loving it.
Hi desi,
I was wondering if we could have, a “cozy winter morning routine”?
Anyways, this was a great video and can’t wait to see more :)
i can’t express the joy i feel whenever i see you upload a video - this is such a well made and beautiful one ❤
It’s so you, too.
omg it’s my favorite book as well! I haven’t met anyone else who feels abt it like I do!
Yes!! I always write the books down and borrow them from the library
Wow!!! Jared has a very good taste!!! We need him more here 🥰
Thank you! 😁
-Jared
@@TheDarthSoul I loved hearing Brando Sando so much! I hear that name many many times a week in our house because of my husband! 😂
Also, I’m curious what you both would think of the Skyward series!
Wow, this is a video I might watch with my husband later!!! Your choices are spot on for me, and his books are many that my husband has read or has on his list! Please have more book recommendations on your channel from both of you! It was so sweet and cozy and I loved it! 🎄☕️📚
