I’m in San Diego using your recipe with Seventh Generation dish soap, j-lube & baking power though I increased the baking powder another tablespoon to 4. On the beach when the winds were about 3-5 mph, the bubbles went often about 1/2 to 3/4 mile before bursting!!! Very impressive! I’m trying to determine the perfect amount of wind… seems anything above 8kts is too much!
Heather Feather ASMR You remind me of when I celebrated learning science in second Grade. I still love Science. We did this at my grade school Ms. Gatti
This was one of the best videos ive seen in a while. The soundtrack is so soothing and goes really well with giant bubbles :3 Keep up the good work man!
tried the first recipe it worked pretty well tried the guar gum recipe it was ok but seemed to work better when I mixed the two batches. just made the original recipe and added two teaspoons of guar gum a little more (2 oz) of soap and tripled the baking powder..... it's 10:43 pm trying not to go outside and see how it works. either way this was a blast.
If only everyone spent their time being creative and making beautiful things like this instead of using time, effort, and resources for war... The world would be so much better.
LEGENDARY! I can't wait to travel the world and do this! Thanks so much. Gonna make some wild animals think im a mighty wizard hahah ill wear Blue Robes and a Blue Wizards hat!
I found that if you sift the guar gum with a wire strainer into the dish soap a little at a time while stirring it, it will mix in much better and much faster than if you just dump it all in at once.
When stating quantities, it would be very helpful if you could mention them in metric as well as most of the world uses metric ;-) You mention a bottle of dishwashing liquid - I'm not sure what this size would be? Many thanks for your wonderful and useful videos! :-) From New Zealand
I love your channel. Oh and you should try adding glow stick liquid to your bubble mix and do it at night. Or even add some florescent ink to them and set up a black light.
I added some glow stick solution to my bubble juice. The bucket of juice was definitely glowing, but I think the bubble walls are too thin to see any of the glow. They were just normal bubbles. (And, yes, I did do this at night.) If anyone has better results, please comment :)
I wonder if these huge bubbles would freeze in winter. I froze some small bubbles last winter. It was interesting to watch them freeze. These huge bubbles would be fantastic! There are some cool photos on the internet of frozen bubbles done by professional photographers.
NightHawkInLight when you say 3 Tablespoons of baking soda in the video you are dumping in huge mounded tablespoons, do you mean ones like that or 3 actual tablespoons?
NightHawkInLight Your reasoning for the baking powder doesn't make sense to me though. Baking soda is alkaline and baking powder is a combination of baking soda and some dry acid (usually cream of tartar). If you were trying to counteract the alkalinity of the dish detergent shouldn't you be adding just a straight acid like vinegar or cream of tartar?
NightHawkInLight this article might be of interest: soapbubble.wikia.com/wiki/PH_Adjusters_and_Water_Conditioners baking soda will make a difference but does not provide as much of a benefit as baking powder (for the reasons that NightHawkInLight mentioned). Citric acid and tartaric acid will also work BUT you need to be extra careful not to add too much. If the pH falls below about 7.0 with Dawn-like detergents, the bubble juice does not work well. A pH of about 7.4-7.6 is the target though there is some wiggle room. baking powder has the benefit of being virtually impossible to over-use -- whereas with citric acid the difference between great bubble juice and juice that doesn't work is a small one.
I need some help with a school project. We have to design a catapult to launch and cotton ball as far as possible. We basically get Popsicle sticks, a spoon and some rubber band. Any help is appreciated. (P.S. Great job on the video I'm going to have to try this)
Hi, have been creating giant bubbles for a couple of years. Love them! Recently had a major set back - first failure!!! We have had a heat wave in UK, with temperatures up to 30C/86F. Some big (not giant) bubbles formed on the strings, then instantly popped. I use Fairy Platinum liquid, J-Lube, baking powder & water (no dragon spit!). PLEASE ADVISE. Thanks.
Ha, you must not be a baker. To be accurate, those are not tablespoon amounts. More like 2-3 tablespoons. The measuring spoon needs to be leveled off to be a tablespoon amount.
Hello I love what your doing and Im very interested in the process and the effects it has on people.. The large wand your using what type of rope / string your using I would really appreciated if you came with some info... Keep up the good work..
I have everything I need now to try the giant bubbles! I was wondering about your measurements. You state you use 1 tablespoon of guar gum and 3 tablespoons of baking powder, but in the video you make your tablespoons very heaping. Do you recommend using true tablespoon measurements or heaping tablespoons like you use in the video?
Thanks for your quick response! What is the shelf life of the bubble mix? I just came in from trying out the bubbles...amazing! They worked great! I'm thinking they would be fun to take to the 4th of July fireworks!
The self-life is variable -- for some people it keeps for weeks for others though it degrades after a few days -- especially once exposed to the elements. More here: soapbubble.wikia.com/wiki/Shelf_Life
*@NightHawkInLight* Maybe you can add some kind of heating just in front of the bubble-ropes, so the air in the bubbles are slightly hotter & makes them rise up, instead of popping on a grass straw. Maybe like a thin copper coil that's short-circuit to a battery? ( *But first* research any explosion risks by short-circuiting the battery type you will be using ).
Just did this today with my girls and they loved it. We used nearly all of the solution. I even made a smaller bubble wand with smaller sticks and less string for the smaller one.
So, I'm going to try this, but after seeing how you measured your "tablespoons" in the video I'm going to assume I should actually use 2x of all the dry ingredients called for in the recipe.
So I recently was at a kids birthday and tried the recipe for bubbles, 3 cups dawn platinum, 1 tablespoon of guar gum, 3 tablespoons baking powder 3 gallons of water. And for some reason, they weren't great. I could hardly make anything big. The only thing I can think of is, I had kept the detergent in my trunk since last summer. The detergent was the only ingredient that wasn't powder. Could it have frozen in the winter or gotten way too hot this summer and somehow broken down? I guess from now on I'm going to buy new detergent right before I try to use it.
I've started using a different mixture myself that's more reliable. It's a modification of "Mike's gooey mix" which can be found on the soap bubble wiki linked in the video description: 4 gallons 4 cups hot water 4 cups Dawn Ultra 8 grams j-lube 14 grams baking powder
@@Nighthawkinlight Well. I went and bought a lifetime supply of guar gum powder and its definitely worked great in the past so i dont want to change that
@@floatingkid Maybe try that suggested mix switching in the guar gum instead. One of the things that makes mixes perform poorly is the pH not being right. If you have a way to test pH you want to aim for right around 7
So what's your opinion? Do you like the J-Lube recipe or the Guar Gum better? Videos alone can't really tell us as we don't know what the humidity was between the two. Since I'm writing you, thank you so much for your first tutorial, since watching it I've been obsessed. I've been doing my own Giant Bubbling since August of this year and the meditative experience and the fun has enriched my life and brought a lot of joy to many I've surprised in my community's parks.
What type of cotton rope do u have or does it not matter as long as it's cotton and what brand of baking powder are you using and can u use tap water or does it have to be store water
Hello - please can you give me the volume of dish washing liquid - I live in Vietnam and we don't have the same standard bottles you have in the video - please help me with the recipe - I want to try this as a class project for our school - TIA
I used to be called 'bubble boy' by my parents because I loved making bubbles! I've really got to try this sometime, thanks for the video!
I am subbed to you

That place looks so peacefull...
Your yard is awesome, love when the bubbles break and fade away.
If only everyone spent their time being creative and making beautiful things like this instead of using time, effort, and resources for war... The world would be so much better.
There is something about watching bubbles that makes me happy and relaxed, thanks!
Thank you for all the projects....as a school teacher my students will love to see this one and others as well.
Those are massively HEAPING spoonfuls. You should write up your final recipe using level spoonfuls so its accurate every time.
Those are some awesome bubbles
Just in time for summer.
WalcomS7 Yep, that was my purpose in making this video when I did.
Beautiful! They even seem to be more shiny and colorful than before. Or maybe it's just the sunlight. Either way, great video.

I made this 3 years ago and it works the older the better so you can make it a munth ahead .
About how many ounces of Dawn did you use?
how about adding a fan on the ground, to keep bubles in air for more time ? :D
you give reason to my dismal graveyard shift. thank you!
I love your channel. Oh and you should try adding glow stick liquid to your bubble mix and do it at night. Or even add some florescent ink to them and set up a black light.

hello how are you can you tell me which use j- lube and Guar gum and which shop I buy this please
Thanks Champion I am now using this mix in my shows an its perfect!!
Amazing video keep up those great projects and have a great day :D
I find guar gum superior to a syrup, starch or J-lube base. The bubbles are also lighter.
Simple and natural compared to J-lube. (and J-lube seems to have some other associations that I'd never have guessed)
You said to add fool bottle of the soap, but what size bottle was it?
You are the coolest guy on youtube!
I followed you other recip I love it, what recipe for you this is the Best.
Thanks
This is awsome I hope when I get older I can do the cool stuff you do (I'm only 14)
Are you doing cool stuff now?
It’s so cute and awesome

Great video looking forward to the next as usual .
NightHawkInLight when you say 3 Tablespoons of baking soda in the video you are dumping in huge mounded tablespoons, do you mean ones like that or 3 actual tablespoons?
Nick Horvath Very full tablespoons, and of baking powder, not baking soda.
Thanks for the clarification (yeah I watched a second time and noticed it was powder but thanks for pointing that out).

Are the bubbles heavier? None of these bubbles seemed to soar, but it could have just been wind conditions.
Nightenstaff I don't think they're heavier, it just happened to be the day I was filming and whatever the wind was doing.
I made giant bubbles like this once and they did float up. They did once we used a blow dryer to it. Put heat in it. Lol
