My grandpa says he remembers when red delicious became popular and his friends and him wanted to see the hype and they went and bought one and were met with the biggest disappointment of their lives.
That reminds me about a story I read about in a test. The story takes place somewhere in Asia, and it is about a man who brought home an apple as a gift for her daughter. I think they saved up to get it, because it was an American export(I am uncertain). The daughter would oftentimes imagine how tasty the red apple would be, but she thought that the apple was too pretty to eat. Once a week had passed she finality decided to have a taste. She was disappointed when she finally tasted it.
@@awwci that story is so crazy given the fruit gifting industry in Japan and China. I mean they must've gotten tired of the disappointment and opted to outdo the US times 10😅
Omg when i was growing up my dad used to bring basket -20lbs of Kashmiri apples for winters back in India and those apples were so fragrant that i still sometimes remember those days and taste of those apples were heavenly. Now i live in Canada and apples here so tastless bland and your toungie would only onow the taste of sugar and now i stopped eating apples.
I go to the grocery store and see that half an isle in the produce section is full of different apples..I browse through them all and always end up buying the second cheapest one.
I stick to this order: Breaburn, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Red Delicious. If one of those four is on sale, the others may be superseded. The hardest to find is my number one.
Oof, thats one way of doing it. Just find the food you like. Gala is a nice crispy non expensive one. But buy just 1 new type of fruit every now and then. If its good. Try to make your nicer dishes with it. I stumbled upon Golden Opal. I only buy 2 at a time because its so good (also the price) but I can only eat half of it due to the Golden Opal being so sweet. Its based on the Golden delicious so it's sweet. But its crispy so non of the mushy traits that come from the "delicious" type of apples. They also somehow made it resistant to browning. So if you cut it, it will stay fresh longer. I eat half and come back the next day to finish it. I think they made it that way for people who do wine, cheese, and fruit trays. But seriously, try a new apple or fruit sometime. Just buy low amounts in case its not tasty or you want to save money.
It is! Red Delicious Apples are literally some of the most delicious, sweetest, crunchiest apples available! They're just trying to undermine the tastiest apples & promote this guy's apples, which I bet will be half the taste but twice the price!
Wow, people really are passionate about apples. Through all this video I was like "who gives a f*ck? An apple is an apple" I'll buy one of each variety next time and taste them.
It's kind of upsetting that one of the main criteria is looks. When I was in the right grade I started a pretty big garden. My friends always wondered why. I told them because, "One I want to eat as locally as possible and our grocery stores care more about looks than flavor."
But looks literally affect flavor. Maybe not in reality but in our brains it does. You enjoy eating something that’s looks organized and pretty than eating the *same* thing disorganized and has different weird colors. Like if there were two identical apple clones where one is red and the other is painted to look moldy and old, you’d enjoy the one that looks better.
@@Leen7293 lol... still pretty stpd and ridiculous though. You taste them not display them. Sure presentation can help to elevate the food by tricking the brain or staff, only if you refer to served dishes not agricultural products. Since when an average apple or other staff in grocery looks disgusting unless theyre infested or rotten? Unless, you grew up in a very commercialized environment where machines and companies are the one who produce these products. They sure look good, but taste like plastic and could oftenly dangerous with chemicals used just to make your food "look good". Im pretty sure youve seen a very pleasing food by picture and looks, but taste disgusting. And, Im sure after tasting that you would think about the worth of your money that is wasted.
@@user-tv4ih2kq6r the reason why the red delicious was so popular for so long was because it had its looks prioritised over its flavour so people would buy it for looks over other apples, and then the breed was diluted so it looked better and better but was undeserving of the name "red delicious". In order to out-compete the other apples in stores it needs to have advantages over them, and to do so it needs to appeal to common customer sensibilities. If it manages to taste good and look good it would do what the red delicious and honeycrisps do but better and then be the "best apple" and potentially corner the market or something
@@Anafyral666 To be fair in my point, I didnt specifically said that this apple or such bioengineered or commercialized product are all bad. But my point is out of circumstance, average apple doesnt have a problem to begin with; there are also cons out of pros provided which makes it not constantly "better" than usual ones. The misleading point here is they (the manufacturers) just "elevate" by preserving or changing some qualities, not fixing an issue regarding argricultiral products, etc.

@i am fierce I don't think any scientist walks into their lab each day cackling like "HAHA! it is I who shall USURP GOD with my APPLE PROWESS!". More like: "Mmm today we will make a uniquely crispy apple".
@i am fierce as someone who does science (specifically astronomy) I can tell you firsthand that science is not proof of whatever god you think is real. A creator? Not clear, but it's possible. Something known by humans? I couldn't give you a number for how arrogant and improbable that would be. Life does not work in absolutes. There is no action that the universe will know strictly as "gods domain" unless it literally violates the laws of physics. Some things violate *our understanding* of physics, but that is not the same. Making fire was "gods domain" until it wasn't. Electricity was "gods domain" and now it's a part of everything we do. Organ transplants were "gods domain" yet now they save lives on a daily basis. And not long from now, we'll be printing organs entirely from scratch. Your fear isn't that we're trying to play god. Your fear is that the god *you* know plays an increasingly small role in lifes mysteries. Tell a person 400 years ago that humanity has eradicated entire diseases, and they'll say "but disease is the will of god. How can you know to do such a thing". When humans study "gods power and creation" like you say, they're not seeing magic and miracles when they look through microscopes and telescopes. They're looking at parts (enourmously complicated), and trying their best to understand how they work. If you wonder why people who study science are less mystical, it's because they understand that mystacism isn't helpful. And it's a myth that scientists are arrogant for doing this. When there is risk inherent to a technology like gene editing or AI, the scientists who work in those fields are the FIRST PEOPLE to point them out. It's just that they're actively involved in trying to understand how the risk actually works. And this isn't to say that science tells us that our universe is a sterile place of only matter. What it really tells us is that science is SUPER hard, and that's about as far as we've gotten. Matter on its own is super freaky, and there's probably way more to know about it. But there's so many possibilities for things we don't know, that purely speculating about them is not going to give you the truth.
@i am fierce Ok now I legit can't tell if you're trolling or not. If you are, then wow good job. If you're not, then I don't even know where to begin with you. Maybe at elementary school science?? I genuinely didn't expect this level of jelly logic! Do you WANT me to explain how trees and babies are made?? Because if you don't at least understand those things, it's gonna be way harder for you to grasp evolution or cosmology. I can TRY explaining it for you, but I can't tell if this is serious.

The animal does not know that they are not born in to this world but in a slaughter house and will never live or feel what freedom is, of course they will be fed and they will grow old but they will never know real nature. Only in my little region in Italy we have already lost more than 50 with their unique features forever Sadly, less crop means no market. I know an old man who's trying to keep the last types alive as a second job.
The problem is storage! They might harvest sooner for longer storage. Storage loses flavor and crispness. If your store notifies you in some way, try all apples when it's a fresh/new harvest.
So what happened is that at the time when they were the favorite they started to be bred to appear redder and more appealing while the taste and texture diminished because of it
@@ultraprincesskenny6790 ooooffff edit: as a grocery store cashier, I sometimes judge people for buying red delicious. Like, out of all apples to choose..... you chose THAT. Lmao at ppl who don’t understand that everything we eat has undergone this same process just instead of in a food industry lab it used to be done out in the greenhouses and gardens of farmers…
Well actually this was done in greenhouses farms and gardens .... we started producing high yield vegetation back during the time of the pyramids being built... it has been proven that ancient Egyptians produce a high yield wheat plant ... to actually genetically modify a plant all we have to do is change variables only letting high yield plants fertilize the plant and doing this over and over would create a modified plant that is genetically diffrent from that in wild ... there is no chemists in a label splicing this and that ... my family has been in comercial farming for years .. about 30 plus years we have seen monsanto rise to power and work with there company to make these seeds ... all it takes is time and know how ... imagine having planted yellow snapdragons next to red snapdragons.. the next year you get a group of orange snap dragons in between the red and yellow.. that is what they did with these apple .. they allowed one 0lant to pollinate the other until they get the right flavor and look .. this does cause the plant to be weak against disease and bugs.. the image of GMOs is that they make plant in a lab but really use a lab to check the overall values of the product ... it's not like trying to grow meat in a dish they actually farm grow and study these plants till they got it right
I wanna try it. I love lab grown food. They are made to bear more crops, use less pesticides, last longer, use less water/land, etc. Nothing bad about them. We really need to end the misconception about them.
The sad part is the apples we eat actually from the last season. They are kept in temperature controlled storage in a sealed room. They are often sprayed with wax to stop them from biodegrading. He did mention that they need to taste the same in October as they do in March, but he didn't say how they do it. Personally, I don't eat apples outside of their harvest months because of this. I have my own apple trees anyway so I can preserve them in my own way without chemicals. I would love to test if Cosmic crunch is as healthy as other apples. Does it have more/less sugar? does it have more/less vitamin C? Are the tress more susceptible to disease?. If they poured millions into research, I'm sure they know these answers and they would market positive findings.......but they didn't
All very good points. All I know is what my taste buds and such tell me, which is that I've never liked Red Delicious, and that Cosmic Crisp is absolutely amazing. The apple called Envy is even better in my opinion.
Technically there is no core in an apple. The best way to eat an apple is to pluck off the stem, then eat it from the base to top lengthwise. When you find a seed, spit it out like you would a watermelon seed. I learned this trick years ago, and since then been eating every apple like this. When I'm finished eating it, there is no waste. Only seeds for a new apple tree if I decide to plant them, and a stem.
I have a very small honey crisp apple tree, I love the honey crisp. This is a great video :-) thank you for the lesson on propagation and transplantation.
Just found this at the store yesterday. It’s actually really good, kind of taste like a honey crisp (of course) and a peach weirdly. Not cheap though, $3 a pound but I live in Las Vegas shopping at a major chain grocery store.

Im talking about the retail cost of them.
I go to the grocery store and see that half an isle in the produce section is full of different apples..I browse through them all and always end up buying the second cheapest one.
Sometimes the cheaper apples are more tasty. People don't buy them because they look wonky and because they think cheap=bad.
I stick to this order: Breaburn, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Red Delicious. If one of those four is on sale, the others may be superseded. The hardest to find is my number one.
I've taste tested the whole selection before and my favorite actually was the red delicious, except I only like it with the skin peeled

Very true
The title of this video is so misleading, I thought it was like lab meat but with apples. It was honestly more interesting than that though.
They still are made in a lab

Depending on the company, it actually could be both
How can you be a product...
What is a product? Something you can use, abuse or do whatever you want without any responsibility. When these guys push something on your plate through advertising and presenting fake twisted facts(check how they change names of ingredients into numbers) in this case the big companies are using and abusing you your health which makes You a product to them.
Check how 5-10 companies make up 90% of big brands for eg nestle, Ferrero, coca cola, etc and the same companies are invested in big pharma(no need to go elsewhere wikipedia has all the details all you have to do is compile information
) the way research and development is conducted tell me why wouldn't they design their products to distort your health in a way you become all around customer(product from my point of view which can be used and abused with no responsibility) how 30g which is considered as as one serving in many countries covers 20% of daily value required of fat and double digit percentage of sodium, etc. Their agenda is pushing unhealthy stuff on your plate saying that you are a customer but you look carefully you are indeed a product to them the moment you buy their product and assume yourself as a customer. In meat industry they use the term harvest instead of slaughter, sounds dignified right? The animal does not know that they are not born in to this world but in a slaughter house and will never live or feel what freedom is, of course they will be fed and they will grow old but they will never know real nature. Same way a human will always think that he/she is a customer(feel dignified) but not a product because one day when packaged food will ruin our body we will have to lean our lives on prescription medicine.

When I'm finished eating it, there is no waste. Only seeds for a new apple tree if I decide to plant them, and a stem.

There's no core in an apple? What's all that nasty hard stuff in the middle? I don't like eating seeds and hard pieces of cellulose.
More trees? Guess we'll have oxygen for a few more seconds than I expected
Not funny

In the netherlands we have 1 supreme apple thats everyones favorite and its called the kanzi, its crispy, juicy and sweet. the perfect apple
Hm, i never saw these in the NL. This was 10 years ago tho
thanks i just found my stripper name 🥵
✨ *cosmic crisp* ✨
😹 😹
The red delisous is an atrosious apple, i prefer the more citrics ones like the golden or fuji
These people need to stop. We have doctors everywhere!
The perfect Apple has expandable storage and should have had a headphone jack until recently.
I have a very small honey crisp apple tree, I love the honey crisp. This is a great video :-) thank you for the lesson on propagation and transplantation.
Same but I don’t have the room for a tree right now.
Just found this at the store yesterday. It’s actually really good, kind of taste like a honey crisp (of course) and a peach weirdly. Not cheap though, $3 a pound but I live in Las Vegas shopping at a major chain grocery store.
I do wish I had that kind of commitment
I never imagined even something as simple as agriculture has started getting produced in labs now too 🥲
Agriculture isnt simple. Lot of thought goes into it.
These apples really are the best apples I have ever had. Fuji and Gala used to be my go to apples but when I found Cosmic Crisp it quickly got moved into first place and bumped Gala and Fuji down a couple spots. 😂
I LOVE GALA!!!
Eating one right now, had em in my house. They really are the best apple (though my favorite is a honey crisp)
Howard Moscowitz: "There is no perfect pickle, there are only perfect pickles" Same goes for apples!
And why risk monocultures sensitivity to diseases when the world needs biodiversity?
Nearly all your food is a product of engineering. Garlics, banana, tomato even bread and rice comes from years of engineering and crossbreed. There is no such thing as natural seed anymore. People been crossbreeding since ancient time. The first recorded in egypt and china
@@brukujinbrokujin7802 engineering and crossbreeds are not a problem, but monocultures are supplanting the richness of varieties we had!
Just in my little region in Italy, we have lost dozens and dozens of varieties, with their unique flavors and features. Lost forever.
To simply put it, the market now is not profitable if you don't have a variety that is widely known and produces great quantities.
It's so sad I want to cry
@@samuelebernardi4754 i agree biodiversity is important. But you must understand that human needs to eat too. If we care so much about biodiversity then we must not eat bread or rice, which is impossible. Open google maps and zoom at any european/america. Then you can see a huge ammount of white/yellowish area. Approximately 60% of the whole country. Its wheat field. Back then it was forest with biodiversity, animals, birds, flowers and plants. The most damaging is actually rice/wheat field because everybody needs that. The media wont talk about this because its simply unfixable. They always attack unimportant field like apples, palm trees etc. They are minors. As long as i agree with you, i still eat wheat
@@brukujinbrokujin7802 I can see what you're saying, that's also true.
I think we should also consider that a large amount of these crops goes into livestock and this could change if we adopted a mediterranean diet.
My point was that I would rather pay more for my apples and keep alive local varieties, keeping it km 0 reducing shipping, but sadly that's not how the market works. No supermarket is interested in this kind of business.
I'm not positive about the future either.
@ShaunDoesMusic I see where you're coming from, I also believe that in the future automation could be capable of ending poverty and bringing extinct species back.
But I really don't think we're getting there. I'm not a Luddist, on the contrary, I think that since the industrial revolution we have come closer to working less and living better, but at what cost. As humanity we are letting industries destroy our planet, spieces everywhere are going extinct, we could have end poverty years ago.
Today we could end poverty just by reducing the wages of the 3 richest... But we don't. There is not enough class coscience to do that, why?
I think it all comes down to capitalism, history teaches us it will not change without a revolution, I'll leave it there.
Bought some at Sam's Club today. It is a revelation... it sounds crazy but this apple could be so addictive. Granted it was $9 for like 6 apples, but SO AMAZING.
