Andy is the man!!!! Chicken pickin is one of the coolest styles to learn. Most people don't realize how difficult country guitar really is. It looks easy because it is such an efficient way to play.It looks like you aren't doing much. Economy of motion. This is such a great tool to have in your arsenal. I encourage everyone to learn country licks no matter what style you play. It will humble you for sure but once you get down the basic licks and patterns you will be unstoppable. It's almost percussive the way you roll over and hit the strings and it requires really staying in the pocket but it is a really fun avenue to go down as a guitar player. Thanks for this great lesson.
I love adding chicken picking to blues based classic rock and metal style solos in songs, but I do it more like Eddie Van Halen does. But what I really wanna know is... why is Ace playing a freakin' tuba? Lmfao.
I wish I could take credit for that pic. I don't even remember where I found it. It is pretty hilarious.
My big pet peeve with vids like this is when they spend more time talking about the notes they played when the notes they played don't matter. With this style 99% of what matters is what youre doing with your picking hand. Hard to watch stuff like this and not get irritated.
Great Tele-like tones from the Strat!
Andy is the best! So versatile and knows so many styles from this style to slide to blues licks and on and on and on!!!
Excellent lesson! This is the epitome of guitar playing right here!
starts at 2:50
Andy looks a lot like the guy my dad paid to give me guitar lessons when I was 9. Then he ran off with my mom. No more lessons.
Taterly Saladman did that really happen?
Actually HE was Mr. Aledort...
Taterly Saladman dude u got me in stiches hahaha!!
Are you the "Tater Salad "?
that's awful but cracked me up...I'm sorry
Andy knows his stuff. Very good player and a great teacher.
Amazing sound and accurate technique, thanks for sharing!
Andy and Guitar World shaped my life. Before the Internet, guitar world was my sole information resource for my guitar life. .
Andy is the best...love your videos, man !!!
great video. GOD I LOVE THAT SOUND!!!!!!!!!!! I'm using this video tonight to try to show my nephew (long distance) a couple licks I need for a recording.
Andy your awesome Dude,Thank you for all your work,You are very gifted,Mikey from Ampgarage
Awesome lesson. Great playing 👍
Great lesson. Thank you much.
Thank You for sharing Mr. Aledort
Back in the day 11s were light gauge. Fender staggered pole pieces, and Gibson lightning bar bridges are all set for wound G strings. Thank you Ernie Ball! I am using Carvin T Bolt hard tails for this style music, and a Tele American Deluxe 3 pick up, or for special occasions I will dig out an old 62 Tele, or a Broadcaster that still has the Broadcaster sticker on it. They were all merely used guitars when I got them, so I am far from rich! Happy 50th Ernie Ball!
Man Andy is the best Haha I learned so much from him I can say I wasnt self taught lol Guitar world books were stacking growing up Haha
Brent Mason as well is a monster nashville player
Hey man.always read guitar world magazine song transcriptions u wrote.when I would see u name as the transcriber,I figured it be pretty much more accurate that other transcribers.but,I do appreciate everyone's transcription of a song.plus, you dig cool songs
Great job! And thanks for mentioning Roy Nichols. He was my idol!
Strats are cool for country !
Sounds great
Thank you Andy!!!
Andy Aledort is such a cool guy!
I'm trying to learn chicken picking because of how awesome it sounds in a lot of those mastodon albums
If you want to play like Brent hinds it’s a combination of this and a fuckload of drugs
Awesome thank you
Thanks man. Awesome stuff
thanks Andy ... yer the best !!
...Andy's a very diverse guitar player ....and pretty damn cool..
amazing tone
Awesome pickin
*intro starts* “wow that’s a really awesome sounding telecaster” *sees that it’s a strat* “WHAT”
finally a great chicken pickin' tutorial!
Don't stop tthe dope man !! U cool !! 👍
Awesome brother!!!Well said.I've been playing for 30 years and consider myself a well rounded player but damn these country guys will really hand you your ass. It's a style i never really paid attention to until recently. When i get into a style i really get into it.I feel like im starting all over with this style, and thats a good thing.Makes me miss me tele though.Thank god im into P90 guitars.A good P90 will get the tone also IMO.Keep on pickin brothers.Be open to all styles people.
Great job! What is the Looper/backup band module on yer music stand? Thats what I need, not a whole lot of folks near me thats likes to play everyday, so I could really use something like that. Tried some of the PC software stuff, just dont like the sound. Thanks, Doug
Amazing Tone !! I Thank you a lot for reply. Peace
Excellent demonstration man! Also, nice sack!
Andy Aledort is THE guitar master ;)
I want to be like Andy Aledort when I'm grown up!
The ultimate marriage.I've been preaching the benefits of compression for years and years. There is no way to lose with infinite sustain, and that is what a good comp will do for you.Nice talking with ya brother. You seem to have good taste or similar tastes i should say.some people hate my rig.lol
love it
so good
Great !
I have like three of his vids and they're pretty good
I had an eargasm at the beginning lol
nice job !
I had her too. Soooooo yeah
Check Greg Koch on chicken picken!! Dude is a beast player of all styles!
Great lesson. Never noticed, but the muted notes are like a rhythm keeper. Also notes can be muted and the exact note could differ. Often the rhythm guitar are hitting those notes. Kind of a flavor experience.
Bkaaaaawk 🤙🤙
Thanks!
its up to you i hate light strings cuz i feel like i lose some fullness of tone but i use 10's on my strat and 11's on my tele if u can bend fine on 11's go that way they sound great but can tear the hell outta ur fingers.
You're right, I noticed that too.
Can someone tell me what amps and effects he's using?
I actually have 10s on this guitar 1:55. Awesome
If you move from a F to a E does the E become flat ?
lots of similarities with slap bass there. i like!
Should I use 10s or 11s on my strat for country
Good Job Andy. We would really appreciate an update with HD video and close-ups of pick angles.
mate, can you please show us slowly the intro you play?
@thezepp68 Don Rich, James Burton, Roy Nichols, and a few choice others were using that lick quite a few years before Gatton.
This guy should have his own lake so he never runs out of drinking water.
His voice sounds like chicken pickin. Smooth and clicky
Great voice... sounds like cheap whiskey and Lucky Strikes.
Plz ... can you help with some information about his gear or just a help me to get that tone ??
He´s great and his guitar sounds amazing !!
I´ll be glad if you can help me someway.
Anyway ... thx for sharing it !!
(Sry my bad english)
Check out chicken pickin videos of Johnny Hiland. That guy is the best in Nashville!
hiddencharges Yes, the man is great. I would also recommend Doug Seven.
Brett Mason sez: Come on down.
Next to Brent Mason..
@Matt Beeman When I called Johnny Hilland the best i somewhat misspoke. I wouldn't say anyone is the best. Nashville has great pickers! About the time you think you've seen the best...just go around the corner to the next bar or recording session. Brent is great but not the best anymore.
I wondered what brand of 10's Andy uses... I noticed the bridge saddles and I'd like to have strings that didn't require me to do so much work just to set my intonation. If anybody knows please pass the info on ;9)
D’Addarrio-these days I like the XTs best…
Aldort ran style articles in Guitar for the Practicing Musician, which was like the bible of TAB transcriptions
Andy Aledort is fuckin amazin!
does anybody know a beginner video? pls...
@ 1:55 = Andy plays amazingly effortless.
Sound like a tele..nice
25 yrs ago, i took a lesson from this guy at usc, he was a sub for my regular teacher, the song i was working on was cruise missle=steve moris. thing is, he disagreed with everybody else on how it was played.
Wow, that is a GREAT story!
The guy did not play a thing, but he had an energy+presence, he just wrote things out., never saw him again. , My point, hes not the most famous, he did not become usc faculty which depends more on politics than who is the better player, but i got a sense that he could blow most players into the weeds, His analysis of Randy Roades solos was most interesting to me. He highlighted how well RR new his modes+exactly how to use them, Its unnerving to me that he claimed that i was playing steve morse wrong, why? #1 the guy that eventually became chairman of guitar at usc said i was playing it correctly #2 my teacher back home who was a monster said i was playing it right to, I am an average player at best but i will wonder for the rest of my life who had cruise missle right, can't find any live performances of morse playing it so i guess ill never know, ROC ON BRO
@NickMercurio thumbs up to that.
Really helpful tip about how to get those percussive clucks in between the notes. If some of you guys can spend more time practicing your git than checking out this guy's package, then you might find that your own sack will get a little stouter.
Would like to see more of the left hand.
He sounded so sad when he said ‘and now a days you got....Brad paisley” hahah
,😍😍👍
Cant....Look....Away!
Yes, Mr. Andy Aledort: You are CRAZY Excellent! WOW! Very Impressive.
Is there a KFC Finger Pickin' Good Video? - LoL!
Viewers: If you watch this video in it's entirety, you may just recall the Joe Walsh style of rockin' n rollin' when Andy Aledort teaches the pick-choke technique.
madonna - holiday has a nice chicken pickin" though!
Check out Jimmy Bryant's Pickin' The Chicken.
good balls man :D
Bagus
Surprised I didn’t hear Brent Masons name!
Wouldn't have hurt to see BOTH hand views when he's showing the picking hand technique.
Strat with tele bridge? Nice...
@BaseballGod710 Reverend Jim from the show Taxi.
got enough compression ?
For real!
says the King of Tone, James Rockford. Do you have any idea how well respected Andy Aledort is in the industry? You're not qualified to comment on his tone.
BALLS!
Did anyone notice how he never talks about using his right ring finger as an anchor? I'm just saying.
theScytheofGod so what. Just saying
I just noticed his bulge. Just sayin
@xXNeoShredderXx ----Oh Yes he DID!!!
practice. you can get that tone out of any decent strat going through a decent amp.
look up eric johnson if you want to hear what practice does to your tone.
i want Fender !!! :)
Hi I'm Andy Aledort and i'm going to teach you how to roll a joint!
@Ghostman7777 we're not, it's staring at us
