    We had a 2000 Volvo V40 1.9T. Nothing but problems after 100,000 miles. We took very good care of this car and rarely pushed it over 60MPH but at 133,000 our repair center said we had to rebuild the whole engine, which would cost $5,400. Volvos are very nice and extremely safe cars, but watch out for the costs involved!

      Volvos are reliable. You either lugged the engine or you just didn't take care of it properly. There are lots of these X40 volvos that have over 400k on the clock already and still running fine.

      I got a 2000 V40 T4 2.0 200hp variant. The car has taken a lot of abuse. I like to launch and feel the acceleration. Have taken it to the Autobahn and drove it 135mph. Besides from slurping gas. The cost of this car has been insanely low. In my 6 years of owning it never a warning light came on. Never left me stranded. And it always starts right up even in the freezing cold. I only take it to the shop for a yearly check up which usually costs 1600$~ (I do change the oil every 10000 miles by myself forever) At the moment it has 200000 miles on it and I'm sure I'll take it to the 300000 miles as it still drives perfectly. Not sure if I'm just lucky or if I happened to have the V40 config with the strongest engine.

      Im a student ( from Johor) and Im looking to buying this car so that i can go to my college ( in Terengganu ) without using my parent car. Is it good car for long driving and does it cost a lot to mantain this car? idc about the fuel cosumption because just like you said that’s the price of buying cheap old car.

    • @Fantasmo77
      @Fantasmo77 3 года назад +2

      @@kktimmy6020 I got the version with leather seats - so yes - it is a very good car for lang distances. With one full tank you can drive about 600 km at high speed. If you have an old car it's only a matter of time when the expensive repairs start. I'd say the motor of this car is very, very sustainable, but the rest - well - is not so much. I sold it in summer because the repair costs got too high. But I still see some of these cars in the streets so it also depends on how good it was treated in the many years before I guess.

      +Cristi Ursu I am planning to get one 1.8 from 2000 but do you recommend? how many miles has your?

    • @cristianursu6504
      @cristianursu6504 7 лет назад +4

      1.8 has 2 versions, the ~125 bhp one wich I recommend, is the 1.8 GDI engine from Mitsubishi, a friend of mine has this model, it's a good engine, mine has around 470k Kms and still runs like a charm, 2.0 N/A 136 bhp, the difference between these 2 engines is that the 1.8 does 0-100 km/h in 10.5 seconds and the 2.0 does 0-100 km/h in 9.7 wich is almost a second difference but also you get a better fuel economy on the 1.8, mine takes 8.5l/100 Kms and the 1.8 from what my friend told me, gets about 7l/100 Kms , it's pretty good but now it depends on how you drive it ;) If you want any other info about the car, I'm here to answer your questions, sorry for replying so late...Daniel Garcia

    • @jackpotit
      @jackpotit 7 лет назад +3

      The mitsubishi GDI engine had a lot of problems in it, which is why they stopped putting that engine into them.

    How's yours running now? I just purchased one, and so far two key issues are: 1. Airbag light is always on. 2. There is a strange whining or hissing noise when I turn the A/C on. It disappears when I turn it off.

    • @joelbuxton6884

      @@rogacz5966 Too much. $5900 CAD. The timing belt was not properly installed. Needed a new can shaft, among other things. Engine light is still on. Driving it as a tobaggan/commuter until it dies. Already poured at least 3000 into it. Great otherwise. Bought it at 108,000 kms. Feel scammed though.

      Gijs Dakraam A very good choice if you want something practical that works and gets you from a to b. Just be careful when buying one because the earlier models had some problems with rust etc. The ones from 2003 and so on are better because they had that problem fixed. Otherwise it’s a very comfortable car that feels nice to drive.
