He sounds like he was being a p**k ass towards you regarding Sugar Shane. I myself called out Mayweather, CM Punk, Paula Sisters, and even Mike Typist to MMA rules matches but of course I'm not a celebrity or youtuber getting what's it called - clout, so I guess maybe that's why even though Mayweather's handler said they don't do that and CM Punk said "Don't give up on your dreams" or some other inspirational message but I get why you would do this because I tried this 10 to 12 years ago because it all happened between 2013 and 2018. I'm 47 now and I could still go and the main one I'd want is CM Punk because I thought he was conceited and obnoxious fighting Gall in his first MMA match and I'd called him out before that match was even announced and having me would've given him a better chance at winning at least since I told him I'm not a black belt anything. I've just worked on different stuff since the age of 13. Anyway, I didn't like how he seemed to make fun of you, but if you didn't care, I shouldn't either.
As far as I can tell, from information on the "Forever True" internet, Frank Dux successfully dodged every single challenge publicly delivered until he was an old man and no longer really able to compete with young athletes. If he wanted to he could always contact Larry Holmes. Larry is always up for it! In the recent past Holmes challenged that other redoubtable figure, Steven Segal to an exhibition fight with all proceeds to go to a charity of their choice.
@ Seeing Seagal get himself "backed into a corner" with a real fighter that had nothing to lose, was not afraid to be as aggressive and couldn't be bought off is a bucket list item for me. Especially a fighter who tended to fight in a "Americanesque, boxer-ish" striker. Kinda like that Chinese MMA fighter that calls out all these old men who act like Tai Chi can win a real fight and "Chi energy" is real. Or even just a legitimately dangerous "street fighter". Seagal tuned up in a street fight would be epic!
@ You just got to hope he got out of the boxing game well and fit with no lasting neurological effects, Randle took a lot of shots throughout his career, too many. When you consider his greatest asset was his chin. He was slow, not skilled, couldn’t punch that hard, basically he wore the other guy down via heart, guts, and his chin.
Tex Cobb has to be the funniest dude in the history of martial arts. He went on the tonight show after his fight with Larry Holmes and said something to the effect of "That wasn't a fight, it was an advanced game of tag and when it was over I was it."
Larry Holmes also said that, after the fight, Tex called him in his hotel room at 1or 2AM, was drunk, and was yelling at him to meet him out in the parking lot for a rematch! 😂
@@thomasswafford250 Yeah I saw it too. Completely one sided. But Holmes was not hurting Cobb in any way other than maybe his self esteem. There was no reason for anyone to stop it other than boredom.
@@scottwheeler2679 actually in the 9th Tex landed one and wobbled him but, that was the only damage he did to Larry. Larry's jab was one of the best ever!!

Cobb could strike, but his striking shined more in an "all strikes allowed" format. He was a full contact Karate fighter, so he was trained a lot more weapons than just boxing style punches.

Thanks for interviewing Richard, Viking. What a great guy. First saw him when I was a teen working in a movie theater in Charlotte, NC. Loved him in The Octagon. I appreciate his words about Frank and every other martial artist he encounters. A real gentleman who has lived an amazing life. Would love to interview him myself. Good work!

Randall fought for a kickboxing world title after he retired from boxing too. Also Benny the Jet confronted Frank Dux at his own dojo as well and it ended with Frank talking his way out of any trouble! I guess he won the kumite by talking his opponents out of fighting? ✌️🧘🌈
Yup. My brothers made all the equipment for boxing and martial arts in in So. Cal. in the day. They used to joke about "Ninja Dukes" and talked about Benny calling him out. According to my brothers Dux was making claims that he beat Benny in a "secret" match. That did not sit well with Benny. Ironically Benny's kumite fight in Hong Kong was recorded and can be seen on RUclips. I don't think there is any footage of Frank Dux ever competing in any combat sports.
Loving this interview, I've known of Richard for years but never really looked into him, after listening to him here, I've got to say, what a great guy. So down to earth, no ego, someone who I would love to train under.
I remember watching the boxing match between Randal "Tex" Cobb and Ernie Shavers. Cobb's toughness is legendary. Ernie Shavers, the biggest puncher in that era, couldn't stop him. Cobb broke Ernie's jaw and the fight was stopped. It's still hard to believe what I saw. I only knew him as an actor but he was legit.
I saw an interview of Tex sometime after the Holes fight, and he said a week before the fight , he was in a fight in the alley behind the bar with three guys, one of them hit him with a pipe in the ribs he won , but still fought Holems with brused ribs. Great guy , and a humble bad ass.
I remember that Holmes Cobb fight. Saw it back in 81-82. Brutal punishment Cobb received but never a backwards step. Real tough guy. These are great interviews btw. Looking forward to Richards impression of Seagal
I love Richard's advice about going to see where you stand versus publicly trying to declare it. What I learned from martial art is that there are so many people better than me. Also, you don't necessarily know who they may be on the street. So, it makes you humble if you are self-aware.
I’m 55 and have trained in a few styles my whole life. I had a trainer from the states that came over a few times a year, and he had trained with Judo Gene, all his youth. A few times he would have us attend dojo’s and issue a challenge and arrange it, and we’d attend. The gym would be closed and the curtains drawn, and we’d test ourselves. It was always respectful. Often painful, sometimes bloody, but always respectful. Those days have gone.
"Those days" are really unnecessary nowadays, tho. If you want to test yourself there are myriad ways to do it. From no contact to semi contact to full contact, take your pick! The last 10 seconds are the best and I´m looking forward to when Richard will talk about Seagal. It´s amazing that he knew him before he became a big A-movie star.
Stephen worked for the gotti crew.he shit his pants when he got chocked out by the judo master.he had a security blanket when he went to court and the feds had to calm him down because segal was crying into his blanket.
I met Tex Cobb in Toronto when he was filming a Police Academy movie. His hands were massive, big man, but was he ever funny. He loved acting, he said " Acting is just lying, and I been lying all my life. I lied to my Momma , I lied to my teachers, and now they pay me to tell lies, it's great" he also said Manual Labour was a little Mexican dude, and laughed!! What a character!
That Houston fight in '82 where Cobb lost by unanimous decision after 15 rounds, Cobb was disappointed they stopped the fight and said that after another 15 rounds Holmes was his.
Dux claimed he fought about 30 elimination matches to win the Kumite. That's a lot of people: 2 in the final, 4 in the semifinals, and so on, you reach over 1000 participants in just 10 rounds.
For one fighting event that sold as an underground exclusive fight to the death free for all martial arts matches.. 1000 man sure is a lot of participants..
He was also in a movie called raising Arizona, uncommon valor. I got to meet him in a days inn hotel in Fayetteville,Ar. Back in 85,86 i was 14 he came to box a guy they called sailor. Randle is a really down to earth guy that shared his pizzahut with me while sitting in the loby. Cool memories.
The best short and simple shit talk scene I've ever seen on film came from Randall Cobb on Walker Texas Ranger when him a Walker meet out in the woods. You would have to see the scene to understand it so I'm not going to try to quote it, but in the scene you can tell that it was just Randall being himself and I absolutely could see him saying it all in real life.
Never in Martial Arts, just a retired cop. I'm in the corner 100% with Mr. Norton about braggarts and blowhards. It's all about just walking the walk, you do not need to boast. The closest I have come to Martial Arts is self defense training by Grandmaster Joe Hess as a police officer. He was the same way, he did not have to say a word. He displayed his ability through actions and education. A man that could easily take apart most men without breaking a sweat. Good video.
This man is a true martial artist. And he's totally right about All these fighters talking to much and dancing in fights is for guys that are scared actually!
As I remember it.... After Cobb left boxing he wanted to go into kick boxing and he was denied. Some say it was health but most tought it was out of fear from his competitors.
@bam6684 true. I've seen it a few times. I also liked him telling what it was like to work with Jackie Chan. Had no idea he could really fight even though he's just an actor. Amazing!
Cobb was a funny guy…great sense of humor and comedic timing. He was on Carson after the Holmes fight and Johnny says: “you know…it looked like, to the viewer, that Holmes was punching you a lot….and you weren’t returning any punches?” And Cobb says….in his Texas twang: “yeah, you noticed that too….huh.”

I met Tex back in the nineties in Nashville, TN. Nicest man ever.
Randell Cobs was a true warrior.
He was just one of those guys who was tough as hell.
He added a lot of the sense of fun to the movie
Learning from the greatest is one thing, having a match against them in a public setting is another. The latter is pride and it comes before the fall.
Richard is 75 and looks amazing for his age.
Richard Norton is such a gentleman. You can see he really does not want to offend anyone.
You really can't learn to fight without fighting.
Good video.
That means that Dux is probably the ONE bad ass Cobb ever met. He was able to talk him down
This man is a true martial artist. And he's totally right about All these fighters talking to much and dancing in fights is for guys that are scared actually!
I once read a quote; Karate without ethics is barbaric. It has always stayed with me.
One more round and Tex would have beat Holmes.. Larry’s hands couldn’t have taken anymore😂
In the prison scene:
Chevy chase: Hello, what's your name?
Tex Cobb: Bend Over
Chevy Chase: oh hiya Ben!
As I remember it.... After Cobb left boxing he wanted to go into kick boxing and he was denied. Some say it was health but most tought it was out of fear from his competitors.
He competed, u can find some of his kickboxing matches on RUclips.
He was a guest star on the Highlander series. He had a great sword fight scene with Adrian Paul.
When Tex took up acting, he was asked by Johnny Carson whether he would stick to acting. Tex replied, "IDK, regular pay and I don't have to bleed?"
Wpw! Richard Norton, what a blast from the past.
Any video about Frank Dux being confronted, I have to click immediately lol
Lau Kar Leung's student Mark Houghton talks about Hong Kong fights to the death.
Benny the Jet fought in one...He talks about it on RUclips
@bam6684 true. I've seen it a few times. I also liked him telling what it was like to work with Jackie Chan. Had no idea he could really fight even though he's just an actor. Amazing!
Cobb was a funny guy…great sense of humor and comedic timing. He was on Carson after the Holmes fight and Johnny says: “you know…it looked like, to the viewer, that Holmes was punching you a lot….and you weren’t returning any punches?” And Cobb says….in his Texas twang: “yeah, you noticed that too….huh.”
Randall was a really nice guy.
I remember that Holmes vs Cobb fight. Damn, it was a brutal beating.
Shavers couldn't knock Tex Cobb out so you know he's tough.
Tex won the fight against Shavers with an 8th rd TKO also.
Randall Tex Cobb came to our dojo in Philly several days after his fight with Larry Holmes. He still had bruises on his face.
Tex Cobb was also in Ernest Goes To Jail
