  • Hi All,
    Short vid on how to record from your mixer onto your Laptop or PC. This vid I use garageband as my music software for an example but it all pretty much applies to all DAW.
    Hope this vid helps and if so than please give this a thumbs up, much appreciated.
    The Link below is drivers and software for any behringer mixers that is usb, if your missing the cd.

    The great shroud of mystery has been lifted - pushing those button for months hadn't convinced me - until now - just what they did! Plain and Simple - left hand red USB when depressed - routes audio to your computer, where it can be recorded. The right hand red USB needs to be UP to send a signal out... When you want a signal - or the just recorded material - to come into the mixer, then the right hand USB red button must be down - no matter where the left hand red USB button is at! Phew, thanks for that, I finally see :)

    this is ok if you're only recording one mono or one stereo track. for multi-track recording you have to use the control room output to be able to hear the tracks that were already recorded. if you use the main output you wont be able to hear the other tracks you just laid down. since this is basically a mixer first and audio interface second, you can only simultaneously record two tracks at time. and remember that you have to pan your mono tracks left or right depending on which track is armed.

  • @-Deena.
    @-Deena. 5 лет назад +9

    That approach does not let you monitor exiting tacks and record new trackd. To do that take the monitor output from the control room output 1/4 jacks (not the xlrs) keep the desk in record mode and control already recorded track levels through the grey.pot under the red record button. You then keep red buttons always in the record confutation. Thats the right way to it 😊

    I agree 100%, it's the major thing I dislike about this mixer and why I've replaced it. I found myself too many times wanting to record and listen to more than 1 tracks or input and not been able too. Better to save and get a firewire mixer of just a simple audio interface. I would only recommend this mixer if you plan to not do any multi recording. Only for general listening of various connected inputs.

    Yes you can. Mic to xlr, mixer output from rca output into your pc line in. Headphones via the phones out onboard. If you have pc speakers than try connecting them to a line in channel coming from you pc line out or use channel 5/6 - 7/8 etc for your pc/laptop output.

    I'm a idiot... I have owned this mixer for about 7 years. Back then I wanted to be able to record anything in my studio. I didn't understand this was a USB interface. NO! It being marked right on the mixer didn't give it away. I could never get it to record to my DAW. So I bought a cheap Behringer audio interface so I could record anything coming from the mixer. It worked. With a ton of wires I might add. I even took the mixer to Guitar Center in the US and they told me I can't do it and I need a USB interface. Yeah.... I was not pushing the right button. Being a newbie can be expensive. Don't be me! Push the right buttons! Live and learn. :)

  • @EliasGadgets

    yes you can, which is what i do. It's my audio interface that has allowed me to connect my synthesizer, guitar, mic and drum sampler. Downside is you can't do multiple channel recording which is limited to max 2 channel at once.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Yes you can, from the mixer and to the mixer but with some form or tape recorder or sound recorder if to the mixer. These type of mixers are more like transmitters, where it carrys sound/audio signals in the centre of your studio where the end point is either your computer or another storage device if that makes sense.

    Oh dude I little update, I managed to get seperate inputs to ''mute'' and ''unmute'' without turning off the speakers.
    : My krk's are plugged in the Control room out's and my headphones are plugged into a second amplifier to change bass and treble and for my other 2 ''subwoofers'' and they are running via the ''video'' output to my mixer in the Mains, so when i record I can change my hearing via the mains and I can adjust the monitoring sound via the control room.
    Thanks a lot :D

    recording this way is the same as running from your mixer (no matter how many channels it has) to a recorder, be it a tape recorder, a cd burner whatever, it will be a stereo mix of all tracks into the mixer, the only difference is you can go straight into your DAW using a USB interface, these are great for recording practice sessions, just not for multitracking.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Simple way for that is to use the "Phones input" and what you will need is an adaptor to connect both krk speakers, something like 1/4 Stereo plug to 2 Stereo 1/4 Sockets adaptor. You will find lots of them on ebay or amazon from even a 1/4 Stereo Jack 2-into-1 splitter adaptor. Plug into the phones input and connect krk's via the adaptor and all you do is now use the control room to hear your output.

    Yes 100% you can connect 4 mics max and at least 1 keyboard etc. It will also record well. You can go onto behringer website and see for yourself what can be connected. Just go to their site and select the mixer which should give you diagram of all type of connections.

    Seems pretty easy. Imagine recording 100% analog for almost 30 years & just getting into digital recording & not wanting to use a DAW or computer. Now THAT'S rough but that's what I'm doing. I've never used a computer at all except to burn CDs or upload to the interwebs, & gonna keep it that way as much as possible.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  12 лет назад

    Yes you can as long as you have multitrack recording put on your Sony acid which will allow you to record as many channels at the same time but in this mixers case 2 tracks at once max. Example.. I would always use channel one on mixer as mic and would select on the software of my choice 1st input and than another stereo channel my keyboard synth and in the software select or assign as my second input. the more your mixer allow the more you'll can assign or change around that is more suit to you

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Nice tutorial vid on the Fl and Ableton. Yes, you can do that with this mixer on the available 2 channels. You would need to connect your first loops via the 2 channels for the first feeds. than for your second feeds via the aux sends to main mix outs. This is using external gears into the mixer and internal also.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    That will setup your mixer with garageband to record two tracks at once for the different instrument. just repeat the steps for the second track but remember if you select stereo 1-2 for just one track, that means your saying use 1 track as both the mono 1 and mono 2. If these mixers had allowed you to record more than 2 tracks as once, you would see more available choices. Remember to also click the "I want to hear my instrument as I play and record".

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    plug usb provided cable from mixer to your cpu usb. Windows user will need to install codec on provided cd. Mac owners don't need disc installation. Once done, you need to go into your soundcard settings in your cpu and select both your input and output (Internal & External) to the mixers own installed codec as default. This will allow your mixer to be the main audio interface of all your sound, to and from your pc and also to record.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад +3

    Have you checked out the other vids i've put up regarding recording on the mixer...behringer xenyx tutorial 1/2-2/2 a more recent update which should cover more. Anyway the only way to hear back your own recording is to press back down the both red buttons. If you want to hear what is playing from the computer and what your recording on top of it, it's best to use separate outputs..main mix from computer of whats playing as one speaker and the subs 1-2 output speakers to hear what your recording

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Yes my krk's are plugged into the mains at the back of the mixer using the xlr -xlr cables. Sometimes I would use a xlr connected into the krk, with 1/4inch cable the other end into the front of the mixers main ontop.

  • @mariawicks5237
    @mariawicks5237 7 лет назад

    Hi mate nice video. Can u confirm the audio interface is just 2 channel USB or direct outs. So the idea is that you can record stereo/mono sub out of all available connected channels.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Have you put on "Multitrack recording" in garageband under the "Track" menu? this will allow you to record more than 1 mic on different tracks i.e mic1 on track 1 and mic 2 on track 2. Press the + to add a track which will bring up the option to choose between software instrument / real instrument / Electric Guitar. Now click "Instrument setup" for that track and select in the second drop menu which mono channel you want 1 or 2 or stereo for that track and than finish,repeat for the second track

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Try this..open a new project, any is fine. Go to your mean bar under "track", than add a new track or press + below. When the menu option shows up to select your choice, click on the one you want to use and than click on "instrument setup". make sure you have both the connected and hear sound from, as your mixer selected. Now you should see a third option where you can select the available recording channel i.e "mono 1,mono 2, stereo 1-2". what you do is select 1 for that channel, repeat and 2.

    If you want a multitrack recording you need a seperate multi channel interface, this mixer will only record a stereo track, you can pan vocals to the left and inst to the right so you can actualy record 2 tracks at one time, then do that again but you can't play the recorded tracks through the mixer and record at the same time.
    and you also can't record 1 track and play 1 track at the same time, its limited to either in or out at a time.

    There are two types I use, (1) 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono which will plug into iPad headphone jack and rya to mixers 2 track usb input. (2) 3.5mm jack to 2 1/4inch that will connect in the stereo channels left and right.

    For me it has to be firewire over both but second would be usb because today it has vastly improved from a few years back where there is less jittering. Than again if you are doing a true midi - midi transfer than it's faster and better, all depends on what your connections, equipment, sound etc are set-up.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Just plug into the mixer via 1/4 cable of your choice and adjust your gain,eq,low cut,fx etc. The mixer is made to handle 16 inputs on board but record only 2 channels.

    Yes, you can monitor from the mixer of every channel or from you software via usb to the mixer.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад

    Yes you can do that but you will need a audio software. You should have been provided a free cd software with your mixer. You would load the track in the software and have connected your channels on the mixer, the guitar or keyboard synth. Play and record on the software. I do this a bit when I like a mp3 track and want to add my own mix or sample on top or even your vocals to a instrumental track only.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  11 лет назад +2

    Hi, thank you. The down-fall of the mixer is that it can only record a max of two tracks or channels. If you want all channels at once recording, than no. All channels but only two at once, yes. This is not the right type of mixer for multi-tracking record, it's more a mixer to handle your mixes.

    Many thanks. As your video has half a million views, I reckon that the Behringer manual isn't so clear or doesn't explain how to record. I ended up to look for on Internet after having read the Quick Start User Guide only, that doesn't explain how to record. I was in the way to try with an external loop routing cable connected between the RCA-INPUT and the JACK-MAIN-OUTPUT.

    My monitors are connected to the mixer main out. The only connection I have to the mac is via the USB from mixer to mac. I went to my macs main sound card and put both my sound input and outputs to via the mixer. So when I play sound from the mac, watch movies, iTunes,RUclips etc, it goes through to the mixer and disables the main output onboard. This allows me to control everything on my mac from the main mix on the mixer levels.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  12 лет назад

    Have you made sure that your audio interface you got with your mixer is set up so the input/output are selected or routed to the mixers? try taking the interface usb out and put it back in and that should bring up the interface where you can select the input and out to and from the mixer. Also check that you've selected on the channel section you want to record is correctly pressed down via the sub or main which ever one your using.

    I wouldn't connect a stereo unbalanced (RCA from Ipad) to a mono balanced input (4) with a TRS jack.
    It will cancel de mid signal! ;)
    Beter use two (TS) jacks (one for every RCA) and use stereo inputs (5/6 - 11/12)

    Hello and thanks very much. I noticed this video is going back a few years. However in recent times I have bought myself the Behringer QX120 4USB mixer unit with on-board audio Interface. The only slight problem I’m having is getting audio to record from external instrument onto logic pro which my mixer is plugged into. I see in your video the two red buttons you’re talking about and the second one I have raised instead of pushed down but still No audio recording is being done. Instead, I see on logic pro where I am attempting to record, it is a red strip with a white straight line going through it acknowledging there is no Recording being picked up the watch is Recording but no audio signal is being picked up and the same on playback, it is a blue strip again was just a white straight line through it. I am attempting to record on either channels five and six which are stereo channels and also, I’m attempting to record on other channels including seven and eight but still no success so far. Is it possible I may have knocked something by accident on logic pro if you know anything about this please thank you.

The focus was not on connections but on how to record from mixer to computer, how one decides to connect their gear is something personnel.

    Yes it's compatible with adobe audition 3.0 with multitrack recording the same with other music software but again it's limited to only 2 track/channels both on the mixer and whatever your software has and it's a matter of repeating that process. No you cannot automate the faders it's not motorized like the behringer BCF2000.

    better to connect them to your main mix because the 2-track usb doesn't allow you to have any control over your volume. It's really better for you to use the sub 1-2 for all recordings to avoid you having to have the level very high in order to hear your recording level with another speaker for the main mix out to listen to the final mix.

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  12 лет назад

    There are many windows software, the closest you can get to garageband is mixcraft or cakewalk music creator, if yo u haven't tried FL studio, take a look at that also. There are demo's of each so you can try them out.

    I figured this out on my own but its frustrating as hell. Bheringer should provide that info in the manuals.

      +AlvinRey83 - That is awesome but in the end I just invested in a firewire mixer and have not looked back. Your right that berhinger should have really done more.

    You dont have to put the 2TR/USB button down for recording to usb, its only the source of usb you can hear on your headphones or ctrl room. And the Frequenty is the frequenty of your mid EQ button. If you have your Mid set to 0, the frequenty wont do anything

      I also noticed that you don't need to press down 2tr/usb button for recording..I have a question can I record on audacity? It only records vocal . I want to record vocal and audio mixed to my computer.

    Sorry for late reply.. No difference with the mixer because usb 3.0 will maintain a backwards compatibility with USB 1 and 2.0. Usb 3.0 just means faster transfer of speeds from 480mps on 2.0 to now over 4.0 something giga bits per second. That could mean better sound quality the same as better video quality for streaming.
