Meike 8mm T2.9 MFT Cine lens Video Test
Meike just announced their brand new 8mm T2.9 cine lens for MFT system. And I was lucky enough to get my early hands on review. First of all, the build-quality is really great. Full metal body, it doesn’t feel cheap at all.
During the test, I used the BMPCC4K. But the BMPCC4K doesn’t have build-in ND. And the 8mm has a fixed lens hood. But lucky enough the lens element doesn’t stick out too much. So you could still screw the 77mm ND on the hood a little bit. But then you have to use some taps and block the light coming from the side of the hood. Otherwise it creates funny lens flare.
In terms of the image quality, it is really sharp even at T2.9. But when shooting T2.9 you get some vignetting at the corners. But once you have stopped down to T4.0. It’s fine. And I realize the BMPCC4K is 1.9x crop comparing with GH5 2.0x crop. So I reckon the vignetting will be gone if you use it on GH5.
Over all, I think the 8mm lens is pretty fun to use. It works out around 16mm FF. Which is a very nice field of view. And that focal length doesn’t get a lot of distortions.

Are there two versions of this 8mm Cine MFT lens by Meike? I ask, because your lens in the beginning of the video looks totally different than the one on the Meike homepage - the sunhood is different, the diameter is different, ... so can u say sumthin' about that? Thanks :)

Beautiful compositions. Very thoughtful choice for subject matter which aids the composition. Employing design elements and design principles bring about great results in most every medium. Keep up the great work. I am torn on whether or not I should purchase the lens though. There is the new 7Artisans cine lens that has just dropped and i am weighing all the pros and cons of buying each. I would love to see a video in which you test the new 7Artisans cine lenses.

The 4k doesn't have an ef mount. It is native mft.

Thanks for watching my video. Really appreciated. So the Meike 8mm lens that I got was the pre-production model. I had it before the announcement. So it terms of the design it might be slightly different. But the image quality should be the same tho 😉

It’s a bit hard since the 8mm is too wide for people. Unless I know that person, otherwise people would get offended if I shoot too close 😉
