The Trigkey S5 Packs a LOT of Power in a SMALL Package

  • The folks over at Trigkey reached out and asked me to take a look at their S5 Mini PC.
If I'm honest, the small size of the device surprised me. I expected a Mini PC, but this thing's small.
    That said, it has:
    Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics (8 cores/16 threads)
16GB of dual channel DDR4 SODIMM RAM
    512GB NVMe M.2 drive
Space for an additional 2.5" drive for more storage.
I should mention that you can also upgrade the RAM to suit your needs!
I ran 3D Mark Time Spy on the S5 and was shocked by the results:
    Time Spy Score: 1465
    Graphics Score: 1288
    CPU Score: 6640
The CPU and GPU temps stayed under 70°C until the CPU test and then barely touched 80°C.
I did some thermal imaging of the device while under load and the exhaust never got much over 60°C. The case was barely warm to the touch and, most surprisingly to me, I never heard the device's fans unless I put my ear right next to it.

I agree completely with you about the pull tab on the bottom cover. It’s a simple but very useful addition but also it shows thought in the design. If they do that right, they probably do more important stuff right too 👍. Great video as always 😊

I bought one - with 32GB RAM, otherwise the same - before I saw this video, after spending a couple of days looking at the options. Very happy with it! Seems to hit a sweet spot of decent performance without breaking the bank. I'm even using it for development.

I got one of these for my girlfriend for her office and light photo editing needs. No reason why I wouldn't go for the 32gb ram option as it actually worked out cheaper than the 16 after the Amazon voucher lol plus this was she's future proofed .
Absolute little monster, couldn't tell I was setting up a sub £300 computer, absolutely the same performance on normal windows stuff as my custom mini itx gaming machine lol
awesome video too man, great stuff.

Thanks!! Glad you like the device! I also just put 32GB of RAM in it with no issues. You've got great timing on your comment. I'm actually deploying Proxmox 8 on this device right now to reconfigure my setup a bit :)

Looks nearly identical to the Beelink units ive been using at work lately. Right down to the rubber pads on the bottom and the loop on that side of the case.

Trigkey and beelink is the same factory , you can see that in the box of each one.

I am hearing that the Trigkey has Mediatek drivers. I know which I would go for if this is true and that would be the Beelink.

Looks like a VERY solid option for the price. If it were me I would probably max out the RAM and turn it into a Proxmox host. Possibly do that with a trio of them and set up a quorum to test high availability not only with Proxmox but even docker swarm, kubernetes, business applications, etc. because i'd be able to simulate failovers in hardware, realtime.
Also I like the early Saturday afternoon live stream thing. I work on saturdays but work from home that day and while i'm stuck at my PC for availability purposes I typically have some downtime so it's optimal for me to catch a stream at that time.

    • @DBTechYT

I picked up one of these up last week as a PC replacement, needed to downsize.
The model I got has the 5800U and 32GB ram, everything else looks the same, I added a corsair 2.5" ssd. What an absolute beast this thing is with such a small footprint. I've attached it to the back of my monitor so it's basically disappeared.

Just an opinion. I can find other videos for new containers im sure. I appreciate your effort as it is good to know about low-power solutions as well.
