- Safari South Africa, Madikwe Reserve (THE BUSH HOUSE; btw highly recommended). An elephant suddenly decides to attack our jeep and narrowly misses. We were told this particular bull elephant was in musth, characterized by highly aggressive behavior and accompanied by a large rise in reproductive hormones. Musth is linked to sexual arousal or establishing dominance, but this relationship is far from clear. Cases of elephants goring and killing rhinoceroses without provocation in national parks in Africa have been documented. A tourist jeep must have seen an easy target. During the next few days we encountered similar incidents with other bull elephants in musth. None came as close as this bull though.
"his skin looks like very old" hmhmpffff hahahaha
Poor elephant 🐘 needs some body lotion 🧴
It always beats me why open jeeps are used to travel via animal parks
These Safaris are horrible, especially for the popular big animals.
Madikwe is not horrible, quite the opposite. I have been on many safaries there and the drivers/Rangers are quite knowledgable and respectful of ALL wildlife. Now Kruger Park is most objectionable, where ignorant tourists are able to drive around unsupervised...I would love to see their policies changed to only approved drivers allowed to mingle with the animals.
