When I was a kid, I had an outside cat named Bob. He had a raspy voice and a half tail he lost when he was young. He was scruffy but very sweet to me, would follow me everywhere, but he an absolute holy terror to the dogs of the neighborhood. I saw him take on a neighbor's german shepherd who has wandered into our yard and let me tell you, that dog never returned. I also saw him casually trot by one day with a full grown rattlesnake in his mouth that he had killed. RIP Bob, I miss you.

I've had a lot of cats, but only 1 was tough enough to remind me of this story. A Persian blue boy named Smokey - he was a stray that chose us. His territory was our entire complex and the neighboring trailer park. We knew because we'd watch him fight from the balcony.. he liked to lure them with a false sense of advantage by laying on his side- when they pounced he would grab them and usw his strength to flip them over and whoop em 😅
They really are one of the most misunderstood animals. Those of us who know, love them with all our hearts. The most honest, pure and sensitive creatures.
There's also a video of a cat preventing a toddler from climbing over the ledge of a balcony. It instinctively knew that unlike most cats, this place was dangerous to him. This really impressed me.

Statistically, dogs are more affectionate than cats. Cats prefer solitude more often than dogs naturally. The only exceptions are based on how the animal was raised. Every cat and dog I've owned were affectionate, but that's because of how I raised them. The dogs were slightly more attention seeking than the cats though.
